BREAKING DAWN showed ability last autumn and can put that experience to good use. A 47,000gns breeze-up purchase, he is a half-brother to two winners and although no star, he ran nicely on both starts, has shown an ability to handle easy ground, and Colin Keane rides. Monmouth is out of a Listed-winning sister to smart performers Gustav Klimt and Wonderfully, but it is a small negative that he was listed - albeit subsequently withdrawn - from a horses-in-training sale last October. Fate's Gambit disappointed at Dundalk last month and now encounters heavy ground.

Few make huge appeal. Perhaps the Colin Keane ridden BREAKING DAWN can build on some decent efforts last year

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (17/2 -21%)Winemaker |
17/2(-21%) | (11) Winemaker 17/2, Scored by a length off a 5lb lower mark at Dundalk penultimate start; ran to form just flattening out late up in trip fourth beaten 3l off 57 last time, same mark here; wide draw; effective 5/6f, suited by AW; in form on AW recently. 12/1(-85%) | (1) Jon Riggens 12/1, Ran to form beaten 6l in a handicap here last time; returning from a break; effective 6f, acts on good, suited by cut; on good mark and back in form when last seen in autumn. C&D winner, 4lb below last win, overall record fresh suggests he might need this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (18/1 +10%)Secret Magician |
18/1(+10%) | (8) Secret Magician 18/1, Beaten early down the field in a handicap here most recent; returning from a break; wide draw; effective 7-8f, acts on any; form tailed off in autumn and this trip too sharp. Two-time C&D winner on good, handles heavy, 2lb above last win, might need this run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (6) (33/1 -18%)Green Icon |
33/1(-18%) | (6) Green Icon 33/1, Well held up in class back in a handicap well beaten in a handicap at Dundalk latest; returning from a break; appears best at 8f, acts on good and with cut; inconsistent of late and trip too short. Best turf run for this stable here on good ground, testing conditions a big concern. |

MICKEY THE STEEL relishes testing conditions and will be ready for this early-season reappearance. A five-time winner, he is now an eight-year-old but held his form last autumn. Jon Riggens is another eight-year-old with solid claims, as three of his four wins have come at this course. He also handles heavy ground and should compete, despite having to carry 10 stone. Two And Two runs in a first-time hood and scored over this distance at Dundalk in January, but now encounters contrasting ground conditions.

MERISI DIAMOND gets a tentative vote. He's 7lb below his last win and he won over C&D on this card in 2024 on his seasonal reappearance

Up 8lb for C&D win on final run of last season, might need this run, market best guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/2 -35%)Unique Journey |
9/2(-35%) | (1) Unique Journey 9/2, Did it cosily, improved again landing a handicap by 3l off a 9lb lower mark here last time; effective 6f, suited by cut; progressive in autumn, another career high mark to defy on return but not ruled out. 5th (7) (10/1 -54%)Staysound Susie |
10/1(-54%) | (7) Staysound Susie 10/1, Overcame trouble benefitting from stiff test down in trip landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off a 8lb lower mark here last time; returning from a break; effective 5/6f, acts on heavy and good; revised mark will demand more. Won off 8lb lower over 5f here in Nov', beaten off this mark in this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (7/2 +61%)Back Down Under |
7/2(+61%) | (8) Back Down Under 7/2, No obvious excuse beaten 9 1/4l in a handicap here last time; wide draw; effective 6-7f, acts with cut and on good; in good form until latest couple of runs, goes well at Curragh. Won first time up on this card last year, handles heavy, can't be dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (14/1 -17%)Go Athletico |

22/1(-83%) | (6) Sarahmae 22/1, Ran to form beaten 6l in a handicap here last time; wide draw; effective 5f on yielding, good; consistent but handicapper may have caught up. Three-time 5f winner, struggled sole previous start on testing ground, best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (15/2 -7%)Love Billy Boy |
15/2(-7%) | (2) Love Billy Boy 15/2, Could not get involved, too slow away down the field in a handicap at Galway most recent; drop in trip not ideal; acts with cut; likely to need this after lay off. Won two last year, has placed course form, handles soft ground, could go well if fit. |

DMANIAC is at his best on heavy ground at this course and remains capable of further progression as a four-year-old. He is generally consistent and while he has won just once from 10 starts, that success came on his latest start in October and connections will have had this race in mind since. Staysound Susie also goes well on easy ground and while she too scored on her latest start here, she is more exposed than the selection. Unique Journey can also go well.

It might pay to side with the former C&D winner STAG NIGHT who is 4lb lower than when running well in defeat in this race last year

300/1(-100%) | (4) A Daughters Love 300/1, No worthwhile form; yet to show anything beating only 3 home in 3 starts, may need further than 6f. No sign of winning potential in four runs at two, struggled in a claimer on final outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (150/1 -20%)Nando Lily |
150/1(-20%) | (8) Nando Lily 150/1, Never in the race down the field in a maiden at Naas most recent; stamina on dam's side; likely need much more time. Finished towards the rear in 6f maidens at Fairyhouse and Naas last July, no appeal. |

SIGNORA makes her first start since finishing mid-division in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last June. The Frankel filly was sent off favourite that day having made a very promising debut in Group 3 company at Naas the previous month. The form of that race has worked out well as the winner Lady Iman went on to score again at the same level, while runner-up Green Sense was a Group 2 winner in France. Girl Bear was third on her debut at Galway in a decent contest, but that form wouldn't look anywhere near as strong. Feel The Love, a St Mark's Basilica half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Fancy Blue, is a newcomer to note.

Providing she handles the ground, SIGNORA, Group 3-placed befoee Royal Ascot disappointment, should open her account here

Won five races for Joe Murphy, acts on heavy, could be a useful recruit to the Burns yard. |

ENGINES ON has won twice at the Curragh and likes a good dig in the ground. He finished last season with a victory over 7f here and was value for a bit more than his winning margin. The Sioux Nation gelding ran a cracker in the Irish Cambridgeshire over this trip previously and there looks to be a nice prize in him this season. Ribee was progressive in testing conditions last autumn and is another who could still be on an upward curve. Top-weight Big Gossey rarely runs a bad race, but may be vulnerable against less-exposed types. Tuscan Hill was a Listed winner in soft ground and is an interesting contender on his first outing for Robson De Aguiar.

Last year's winner ORANDI may prove equal to the task again off 6lb higher. Ryan Moore is a significant booking for the repeat bid

NAVINSKY was just edged out late on when second at Navan in September and may be able to go one better now. The Zarak gelding went down by a neck to Railwayview Lady that day and had recent Cheltenham Festival winner Saratoga back in third. Ryan Moore rides Scientific so he looks the pick of the Ballydoyle newcomers. The Wootton Bassett colt is a half-brother to Group 3 winners Taniyar, Tanaza and Tarawa. Stablemate Shaftesbury Avenue is a half-brother to three-time US Grade 1 winner Up To The Mark, while Spanish Rising is another to consider.

Ryan Moore's mount Scientific has to be taken seriously, but the experience gained at two by NAVINSKY may be decisive
