LTO Selection:

13:50 Goodwood Stakes (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The market will be a key guide but marginal preference is for PACKARD, who cost 150,000 euros as a yearling and the son of Mehmas is closely related to plenty of two-year-old winners. Double Jump is also very interesting given that his dam won at Listed level early in her juvenile career and Clive Cox's colt was another expensive purchase at 180,000gns. Others to note are Ambushed, Barnwell Boy and Moyet.

BATED BREEZE ran to just a modest level when mid-field here on debut 3 weeks ago but he showed plenty to work on and can put that experience to good use up against newcomers. Double Jump's sales price doubled from foal to yearling so is one to note, while Packard looks a likely type for Richard Hannon.

The market should be enlightening. As things stand, PACKARD looks a likely type with his owner's 2yos going great guns.

Sudden Ambush

7.5/1(-25%)
(6) Sudden Ambush 7.5/1, Improved after 4 months off when off the mark in minor event at Lingfield (1m) in January, benefiting from an aggressive ride. Has matched rather than improved on that form in a pair of handicaps subsequently.
May still have more to offer; possibilities back down in distance.

Choisya

(3) Choisya 14/1, Southwell novice winner who improved when second of 5 on her handicap debut at Kempton in March. Not seen to best effect when below form at former course last time so not written off now switched to turf.

(7) Seductive Power 12/1, Fairly useful performer who has scope and ran well on the AW first 2 starts this year. Was below form back on turf on most recent outing, though. Wears first-time blinkers.
May bounce back if he takes well to first-time blinkers.

Man Of Eden

2.5/1(+17%)
(5) Man Of Eden 2.5/1, Irish import who made quite hard work of landing the odds on debut for new yard in a 1m Newcastle maiden in January. Failed to fully settle when sixth in 1¼m Newmarket handicap back from a break but benefited from the drop back in trip when second to a big improver over C&D last time. Shortlisted.
Finished nicely for second in similar event over C&D three weeks ago.
5th

Tiger Bay

25/1(-108%)
(9) Tiger Bay 25/1, Reached the frame over 6f/7f at Wolverhampton at the end of 2022 and improved to get off the mark at Lingfield (7f, AW) last month, having run of race. Into handicaps now and more required.
Likely player if transferring her AW progress to turf.
6th
6th (8) Woodstock (6/1 +45%)
Woodstock

6/1(+45%)
(8) Woodstock 6/1, Built on debut second when comfortably landing short odds at Chelmsford and didn't need to improve again to double his tally at Kempton in March. Seemed unsuited by very testing underfoot conditions tackling turf for the first time at Nottingham last time, so well worth another chance.
Progressive on AW; possibly unsuited by soft ground on turf debut.
7th
7th (11) Dream Of Mischief (16/1 +27%)
Dream Of Mischief

16/1(+27%)
(11) Dream Of Mischief 16/1, Made the most of a big drop in class fitted with first-time cheekpieces when making his second nursery start a winning one at Lingfield (7f, AW) in September. However, wasn't in the same form back on turf at Newmarket the following month.
1-1 on AW; 0-5 on turf; gelded since last run.
8th
8th (4) John Chard VC (5/1 -25%)
John Chard VC

5/1(-25%)
(4) John Chard VC 5/1, 100,000 gns yearling who displayed fine battling qualities to get off the mark in a Leicester novice (7f) in September. Matched that form when third on nursery debut at York on final outing and is likely to do better still this season given his physique. Has been gelded since last seen. Interesting.
Solid record in four races last term; enters the reckoning.

Pure Gold

(10) Pure Gold 40/1, Caused a bit of a surprise (sent off 28/1) when making a winning start at Kempton in June. Hasn't built on that since, though possibly needed the run upped in trip after 8 months off at Brighton 24 days ago.
Not solid on turf form but the return to 1m may suit.

(1) Dornoch Castle 16/1, Went the wrong way at 2 yrs after a promising start and turned in another underwhelming effort after 9 months off (had breathing op) on his handicap debut at Haydock 13 days ago. Enough to prove at present.
May bounce back with Haydock reappearance under his belt.

11th (2) Come Together (5/1 +0%)
Come Together

5/1(+0%)
(2) Come Together 5/1, Showed much improved form when edging out a promising newcomer close home in 11-runner minor event at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in November. Has a 6-month absence to overcome but looks on a good mark for handicap debut.
Looks the type to improve further and do well in handicaps.
LTO Selection:

14:25 Goodwood Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

This is an open looking handicap and a tentative nod goes to MAN OF EDEN, who has a fitness edge over potentially his biggest dangers. Harry and Roger Charlton's charge was a good second over C&D last time and he can go close again, despite a 2lb rise. Come Together was successful over the extended mile at Wolverhampton but has been off the track since November, while John Chard Vc must also overcome an absence from the track.

COME TOGETHER looks to have got into handicaps on a good mark based on his win at Wolverhampton in November, so he's an appealing candidate, especially with the prospect of more to come. Man of Eden ran well behind a big improver over C&D on his most recent outing and is feared most, while Woodstock and John Chard Vc are others who enter calculations.

On the back of his good second over C&D three weeks ago, MAN OF EDEN could well go one better. Sudden Ambush is second choice.

(10) Understated 7.5/1, Built on promising 11f AW debut second in January when winning 5-runner Windsor novice (1¼m, heavy) last month. Quicker ground over this trip perhaps a slight worry for a filly who is bred to relish 1½m but there's surely more to come. .

It's difficult to rule any of these out with improvement on the cards, so only a tentative vote can go to ARAMINTA. It's not often Henry Candy sends out a winning debutant, so it was all the more striking when she cruised to success at Newbury last month. She then lost nothing in defeat when third over 1m here, and the step up in trip can see her in an even better light. Heavenly Breath and Veil Of Shadows are feared most, while Inner Space heads the remainder.

ARAMINTA acquitted herself well against a couple of older, more experienced rivals when a close third in a 1m course listed event 3 weeks ago and can build on that now stepping up to 1¼m. Veil of Shadows, Blue Missile and Understated look very useful prospects for good stables and head the many possible dangers in an open-looking listed event.

Although she lacks a Ribblesdale entry, VEIL OF SHADOWS looks sure to improve for going this far after her good run at Ascot.

Productive sort; drop back to 7f looks ideal; 2-2 under William Buick; respected.
LTO Selection:

15:35 Goodwood Handicap (Class 3) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

A prolific winner in the second half of last season, AUTUMN FESTIVAL bounced back to form with a highly creditable effort in the Thirsk Hunt Cup and the drop in trip is a major plus. The booking of William Buick also catches the eye and he is taken to see off C&D winner Lyndon B and Global Esteem, who has not been beaten far on either start this season. Able Kane and Tintoretto are entitled to be thereabouts as well.

ROPEY GUEST is a consistent sort who shaped as if the run would put him spot on when fifteenth in Ascot's Victoria Cup so he gets the nod off a 2 lb lower mark here. Autumn Festival looked on the way back when fourth at Thirsk last time and is next on the list ahead of C&D winner Lyndon B.

Off a workable mark NIZAAKA could well enhance her strong record in British handicaps. Autumn Festival is feared most.

Useful and more than ready for this stiffer test of stamina, as his pedigree would imply.

A fairly open contest in which marginal preference lies with KLONDIKE. A game winner over 1m3f at Newbury last month, William Haggas' expensive colt can make it two out of two, and the fact he holds an entry for the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot suggests he is showing all the right signs at home. Gregory is another who made a successful start to his career and he can give the selection plenty to think about, along with the grade-dropping Batemans Bay.

Normandie Stud Ltd won this contest 12 months ago with Lionel and they could have a star on their hands this time around in the shape of GREGORY, who justified support to see off a trio of previous winners at Haydock last month, and with significant improvement on the cards, he's fancied to take this step up in grade in his stride. Klondike is bred to stay well, so he may emerge as the main threat having also made a winning debut, with Tempered Soul third on the shortlist.

Klondike and Gregory are promising but HADRIANUS sets the standard on his Epsom second and there were excuses at Chester.

(5) Angle Land 4.5/1, Bagged three handicaps on AW during the winter (all at 5f) and best effort yet on turf when runner-up behind Dream Composer over C&D 3 weeks ago, tackled over 1f out and edged out after. 5 lb better off with that rival now.
Couldn't deal with Dream Composer here three weeks ago; 5lb better off with the winner.

2nd (4) Lihou (5/1 -11%)
Lihou

5/1(-11%)
(4) Lihou 5/1, Resurgent from reduced mark this year, successful 3 times on AW and on top late on when going in again at Epsom (5f) last month. Creditable third from out of the weights at Chester (5f) 15 days ago and he ought to go well again in a refitted visor.
Very solid form claims based on his recent win and placed form on turf.

3rd (1) Dream Composer (1.25/1 -4%)
Dream Composer

1.25/1(-4%)
(1) Dream Composer 1.25/1, Goes well at this track and having added to his tally at Newmarket (5f) in April, he posted a career-best when following up over C&D 3 weeks ago, by 1¼ lengths from Angle Land. Assessor applies a little more pressure but big player again in this groove.
Has never been in better form following 5f wins on good to soft at Newmarket and here.

4th (6) The Defiant (20/1 -11%)
The Defiant

20/1(-11%)
(6) The Defiant 20/1, Tasted success 4 times on AW upon joining this yard last term and best efforts on turf came at this venue, including when second over C&D in August. Comes here on the back of creditable in-the-frame efforts in recent weeks but no easy task on from out of the weights on this occasion.
Tends to ply his trade at a lower level and it's not ideal being 7lb out of the weights.
5th
5th (2) Watchya (4/1 +27%)
Watchya

4/1(+27%)
(2) Watchya 4/1, 3-time winner on AW/turf last year for Clive Cox who has run with credit on 3 of his 4 starts for present yard, fourth in 8-runner Windsor handicap (6f) 4 days ago. Remains low mileage at the minimum trip and he's not out of things.
10lb above his last winning mark but penultimate Listed run was his best yet.
6th
6th (3) Dubai Station (14/1 -40%)
Dubai Station

14/1(-40%)
(3) Dubai Station 14/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton (6f) in March. However, proved rather disappointing on AW since, 22¼ lengths last of 12 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 46 days ago. Bounce back called for returned to turf.
Looked good on the AW in March and excuses since; perhaps better at 6f than 5f.
LTO Selection:

16:45 Goodwood Handicap (Class 3) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

There was just over a length separating DREAM COMPOSER (first) and Angle Land (second) over course and distance three weeks ago and, although the latter is 5lb better off this time around, the James Evans-trained gelding is taken to confirm those placings. The consistent Lihou has been in great form so far this year, winning four times already, and may give the selection most to think about.

Plenty of these arrive in good form including DREAM COMPOSER who supplemented his Newmarket victory in April with a career-best display over C&D 3 weeks ago and he can complete the hat-trick in his present groove. Lihou and Angle Land may emerge as the lead threats.

A trappy little sprint. DREAM COMPOSER is on a roll and has a particularly solid record at this track, so he may go in again.

Diamond Bay

(2) Diamond Bay 12/1, Posted another respectable effort when seventh of 14 in handicap at Lingfield (15.8f, AW) last month but it's been some time since he scored on turf. Others more appealing.

Dance To Paris

28/1(-27%)
(10) Dance To Paris 28/1, Ran a cracker at Chester first time up last year and returned to winning ways at Lingfield (15.8f) in July. Largely disappointed since, however, and others preferred despite her potentially lenient handicap mark.
Lurks on a dangerous mark but this winter's AW exploits weren't her best.

11th (1) Ehteyat (25/1 -213%)
Ehteyat

25/1(-213%)
(1) Ehteyat 25/1, Much improved on the back of a gelding operation, winning twice at Southwell (both 14.1f) in January before posting an excellent second at Lingfield (15.8f). Wasn't seen to best effect back on turf at Ascot latest and must enter calculations in first-time blinkers.
Ascot was a write-off but he goes in more new headgear and others appeal more.
LTO Selection:

17:20 Goodwood Handicap (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Blazeon Five is likely to prove popular after regaining the winning thread at Ascot, and a 2lb rise is unlikely to prevent her from going close once more. A chance, however, is taken on GRANDMASTER FLASH. who wasn't seen to best effect when finishing fourth over 1m6f here earlier in the month, but he offered enough to suggest he can land a race of this nature. Better is also expected from First Emperor now returned to 2m.

MELAKAZ resumed his progress when winning a Chelmsford handicap with ease earlier this month and remains relatively unexposed over staying trips. He can follow up. Yorksea could be well treated returned to the Flat and is feared most, whilst Ehteyat can also make his presence felt.
