1st (8) (6/1 +40%)Superior Council |
6/1(+40%) | (8) Superior Council 6/1, Raced freely comfortably held in a handicap over 8f at Carlisle last time; should come on for that; fair mark on Irish form; blinkers first time; trainer in form; down in trip; may contend 18-race maiden but each-way shout on the pick of last season's Irish form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/1 +0%)The Cola Brasil |
5/1(+0%) | (5) The Cola Brasil 5/1, Looked unenthusiastic beaten 4l in a handicap over 7f at Wolverhampton last time; visor first time; good mark on AW form; inconsistent for new yard; each way claims Signs of promise this spring for new (Newmarket) yard; this stiff 6f should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (6/4 +77%)Coconut Bay |
6/4(+77%) | (3) Coconut Bay 6/4, Below par beaten 3l off 50 over 7f at Catterick last time; in good form prior; not proven trip; not out of it with stiff track a plus Went close at Musselburgh last month; could be thereabouts; declared Catterick yesterday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (50/1 -79%)Bernie The Bear |
50/1(-79%) | (7) Bernie The Bear 50/1, Below par down the field in a handicap at Ayr most recent; better form on AW; inconsistent; bit to find even off this basement mark Patchy record on turf, on which he's 0-14, and is without a win since December 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/4 -47%)Ignac Lamar |
11/4(-47%) | (2) Ignac Lamar 11/4, Game when landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off 45 here last time; top course trainer; usually held up; arrives in form having won 2 of last 4; top amateur booked; go close Won over C&D last month and he remains well treated on his AW form; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (10/1 -150%)Angel Of The Bay |
10/1(-150%) | (4) Angel Of The Bay 10/1, Ran to form beaten 4l off 50 over 7f at Carlisle last time; down in trip; frustrating maiden; stiff track a plus down in trip; outside chance Fair third at Carlisle recently but now 0-15 and the drop back to 6f isn't an obvious plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (18/1 -177%)Newyorkstateofmind |
18/1(-177%) | (1) Newyorkstateofmind 18/1, Below par beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap at Redcar last time; generally out of form; dropping in weights but lots to prove Below par the last twice (including here) but shouldn't be ruled out at a track he likes. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

The well-handicapped Ignac Lamar won with something in hand over C&D last month and is likely to give another bold showing off just 4lb higher. However, there is also a lot to like about the chance held by TOMMYTWOHOOTS, who is back on his last winning mark and could offer a little more value, with Stephanie Dorey claiming 5lb in the saddle. Angel Of The Bay and Newyorkstateofmind are other attractively-weighted options to consider.

The in-form IGNAC LAMAR has the assistance of Simon Walker and can follow up last month's C&D win. The Cola Brasil is feared.

11/8(-10%) | (1) Better And Better 11/8, Travelled strongly when runner up over 5f on debut at stiff track; leading claims up in trip with improvement likely Went close at 20-1 on recent debut at Carlisle and he holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/8 +7%)Try Storm Cat |
13/8(+7%) | (2) Try Storm Cat 13/8, Given fine ride from front when placed over 6f on fast ground on debut; stiff track should suit; can run well Promising third on debut at Pontefract; open to improvement; could have big part to play. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +29%)Welbury |
5/1(+29%) | (4) Welbury 5/1, Sold for 25,000 guineas as a yearling; colt by high-class sprinter Ardad; half-brother to Scottish Anthem, smart at 1m6f; dam very useful middle-distance performer Loch Ma Naire; probably effective 6f; market should reveal more 25,000gns yearling with a useful pedigree; the betting could guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (25/1 -56%)Snaafy |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Snaafy 25/1, Sold for 9,000 guineas as a yearling; colt by high-class miler Massaat; dam useful sprinter Kodikova; probably effective 6f; best watched Trainer had 2yo newcomer win impressively at 12-1 at Leicester last Tuesday; not ruled out. |

5th (6) (80/1 -60%)Muddy Nora |
80/1(-60%) | (6) Muddy Nora 80/1, Never figured when beating only 1 home over 5f on debut; big step forward needed stepped up in trip From in-form yard but she was always behind at 80-1 on debut at Redcar (5f, good) in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (10/1 +29%)Let Me Show You |
10/1(+29%) | (3) Let Me Show You 10/1, Sold for 37,000 guineas as a yearling; colt by high-class sprinter Ubettabelieveit; half-brother to Albus Anne, useful at 1m; probably effective 6f; up against it Closely related to 5.5f 2yo/1m winner Ghrainne (RPR 86); likely to improve for this debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Better And Better and TRY STORM CAT look the pair to focus on after both made promising debuts. The former outran odds of 20/1 to finish a close second over 5f at Carlisle and should be capable of more now he steps up in trip. However, Try Storm Cat's third-placed finish over 6f at Pontefract gives him an edge in terms of proven stamina and Charlie Johnston's colt edges a narrow vote. Welbury and Snaafy are interesting newcomers to monitor in the betting.

Two of these have already shown considerable promise and BETTER AND BETTER is preferred ahead of Try Storm Cat.

7th (3) (40/1 +0%)Angelardo |
40/1(+0%) | (3) Angelardo 40/1, 7,000 euros Belardo gelding; half-brother to Butterfly Effect, useful at 8f; stable's horses tend to need more time; best watched 7,000euros yearling; makes debut in race lacking depth but claims not compelling on paper. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

VALIANCY showed the benefit of a run when he finished a close second to an odds-on favourite at Haydock 12 days ago. The son of Cracksman is an attractive proposition turned out quickly for a yard that wouldn't have many runners at this venue, but William Haggas seems to have found a good opening for the Newmarket raider to get off the mark at the third time of asking. Elsass and Canavan are suggested as the pair most likely to fill the places behind the selection.

William Haggas won this last year and has another leading contender in VALIANCY, who is taken to get off the mark.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

On target over C&D last month before filling the runner-up spot when attempting to follow up here last Thursday, PARISIAC looks to have outstanding claims once again. A few of these, including Winged Messenger and Digital find themselves well handicapped, but Iain Jardine's in-form six-year-old can prove too strong - especially with Mohammed Tabti removing a handy 5lb. Wrestling Revenue can't be overlooked either.

This can go to PARISIAC (nap), who has been in good form over C&D the last twice. Winged Messenger may be the chief danger.

5th (8) (4/1 +0%)The Gay Blade |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (17/2 -70%)Travis |
17/2(-70%) | (6) Travis 17/2, Back to form beaten 1 1/4l off 58 at Ayr last time; trainer in form; on long losing run but on competitive mark; versatile ground wise; can get involved Back to form when 2nd to a handicap blot at Ayr three weeks ago; up 3lb; solid contender. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A chance can be taken on FLOWSTATE, who didn't run too badly over the minimum trip at Catterick on his seasonal return last month. A 2lb ease in the handicap will do his chances no harm today, nor will the return to 6f, so it wouldn't be any great surprise were the low-mileage Bungle Inthejungle gelding to step forward. There are dangers aplenty though, perhaps none more so than Travis, who bumped into a real improver when second at Ayr three weeks ago. The Gay Blade is also noted.

Several possibles but it could be worth siding with FLOWSTATE, whose return to action at Catterick 12 days ago was promising.

Plenty are sure to fancy their chances in an open contest, but the vote goes to FRENCH HAVEN, who was narrowly denied at Nottingham latest when attempting to follow up on her earlier Newmarket triumph. Charlie Johnston's filly is able to compete from an unchanged mark and, from her handy draw, ought to have every chance of going one place better. Bellasio fared best of those to come from off the pace when finishing second over C&D a fortnight ago and is respected, while others to note include Rainwater and Cisco Disco.

The in-form filly FRENCH HAVEN is unexposed and taken to win again.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
