1st (2) (1/1 +0%)Ruby Island |
1/1(+0%) | (2) Ruby Island 1/1, Outpaced at sharp track but improved again 4l third in Lady Protectress Mares' Chase (Listed) at Huntingdon most recent run; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on soft, good; generally progressive sort; could have too much speed for sole rival here. Every chance and if it comes down to jumping she's the one to be on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/11 +20%)Gamesters Guy |
8/11(+20%) | (1) Gamesters Guy 8/11, Ran to form and not given a hard time once beaten when second beaten 18l in a handicap chase at Chepstow latest; tongue-tie first time; effective 2 1/2-3m; consistent, may do better if brushing up on jumping. Every chance but if it comes down to jumping he's second best; tongue-tie added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

GAMESTERS GUY seems to have an ideal opportunity to go one better than his latest effort at Chepstow. The seven-year-old's sole chase victory came in a similar contest when proving too strong for the useful Moon Rocket at Doncaster and the application of a tongue-tie might aid his cause further. Ruby Island arrives following a string of consistent efforts and she cannot be discounted in receipt of the mares' allowance.

Nothing to choose between these two at the weights but RUBY ISLAND is the better jumper.

1st (2) (9/2 +36%)Chemoulin |
9/2(+36%) | (2) Chemoulin 9/2, Ran to form when fourth beaten 12l in a maiden hurdle at Newcastle latest; effective 2 1/2m, acts on good to soft; debut form strong, outside claims. Displayed ability in both starts and should make his presence felt in this winnable race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/4 -20%)Ballyeaston |
6/4(-20%) | (1) Ballyeaston 6/4, Ran to form up in trip but still green and very awkward under pressure when second beaten 2 1/4l in a maiden hurdle at Catterick latest; tongue-tie first time; effective 2m-2m4f, good to soft and good; can do better again stepped up in trip. Leading contender despite looking almost unrideable when 2nd last time; tongue-tie goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/2 -36%)Coumeenoole |
15/2(-36%) | (3) Coumeenoole 15/2, Outpaced, outclassed and looked in need of further when comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Ascot last time; showed useful level of form in Ireland; effective 2 1/2-3m, suited by decent ground; can do better for new yard when stepped up to 3m but threat if getting decent test. Little to shout about in three runs for Dan Skelton but this represents a drop in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (22/1 +78%)Yorkshire Man Sam |
22/1(+78%) | (8) Yorkshire Man Sam 22/1, Never threatened when down the field in a maiden hurdle at Newcastle most recent; effective 2m; showed promise in bumpers but needs to prove ability remains after lay off. Beaten 50l in two starts this term and needs to prove he retains ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (100/1 +33%)Shuile Warrior |
100/1(+33%) | (6) Shuile Warrior 100/1, Poor hurdles return when down the field in a maiden hurdle at Ludlow most recent; point winner hasn't shown much under rules. Won Chaddesley Corbett maiden in April but three starts under rules have been modest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (5/4 +0%)Solid Performer |
5/4(+0%) | (7) Solid Performer 5/4, Improved up in trip under positive ride when second beaten 3/4l in a maiden hurdle at Catterick latest; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on on soft; improving and should be competitive. Placed in 3 maidens this term, latest at 3m1f; drop in trip not ideal but still a player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (125/1 -150%)Noble Don |
125/1(-150%) | (5) Noble Don 125/1, Modest debut when well beaten in a bumper at Sedgefield latest; absent for very lengthy period; placed in a point but likely to need the run on hurdle debut. Beaten 17l in sole bumper in early 2024 and absent since; hurdles debut and bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (200/1 +0%)Jonzac |
200/1(+0%) | (4) Jonzac 200/1, Outpaced, never threatened when down the field in a maiden hurdle at Newcastle most recent; effective at 3m in points; longer trip should help point winner but more needed. 25,000euros buy after Irish point win but no show in three qualifying runs over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Solid Performer produced his best effort so far over timber when runner-up at Catterick, but the drop back in trip may count against him and BALLYEASTON is preferred. Having hung badly left when second at Catterick in December, the track layout here might just help him out and the extra yardage appears to be in his favour. Chemoulin appears best of the remainder.

Solid Performer and Ballyeaston are big players but have differing queries over them so it may pay to side with CHEMOULIN.

1st (3) (3/1 +40%)Ki Woo |
3/1(+40%) | (3) Ki Woo 3/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Doncaster latest; effective 2m4f-3m on a sound surface; progressing over fences until latest. Very good second at Doncaster but pulled up there since; he needs to bounce back. |

4th (4) (7/4 -17%)Wal Buck's |
7/4(-17%) | (4) Wal Buck's 7/4, Ran to best up in trip suited by positive ride landing a handicap by 34l off a 4lb lower mark at Kelso last time; effective 3m-3m2f, acts on soft and good to soft; consistent, may be worth another go over marathon trips. Course winner; visored for Kelso win latest; up 4lb but big shout with headgear retained. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (12/1 -71%)Safe Destination |
12/1(-71%) | (5) Safe Destination 12/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Fakenham latest; cheekpieces first time; off a short-break; suited by 3m on sound surface; generally consistent but handicapper looks in charge. Rare poor effort when pulled up at Fakenham latest; cheekpieces on and sort to bounce back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The addition of a first-time visor made a difference to WAL BUCK'S when running out a wide-margin winner at Kelso. The handicapper didn't go over the top by only raising him 4lb and it won't be surprising if a bigger performance is still in the locker. Ki Woo should appreciate a sounder surface after a below-par display at Doncaster, while similar comments apply to Iron Bridge based on his Carlisle second on his penultimate start.

Course winner WAL BUCK'S looked better than ever in a visor when a wide-margin scorer at Kelso recently and is hard to side against.

150/1(+0%) | (5) Prince Imperial 150/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Southwell latest; effective 2 1/2m, suited by good ground; back below last winning mark but form has tailed off. Yet to get going for this yard and was pulled up on his last two starts, latterly at 200-1. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Is This For Real was the convincing winner of a maiden hurdle at Newcastle and is potentially well treated for his handicap debut. Having previously won a point-to-point over 2m4f, stepping up in trip could also be rewarding. However, the same can be said of KING ULANDA, who has improved since undergoing wind surgery and looked in need of a sterner test when filling the runner-up berth behind an in-form rival here. The Cistercian and Sunray Shadow complete the shortlist.

Handicap debutants The Cistercian (second choice) and Is This For Real hold leading claims but KING ULANDA gets the vote.

17/2(-42%) | (5) Outer Banks 17/2, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Market Rasen latest where had an excuse; cheekpieces first time; effective 2m4f-3m on soft; should build on reappearance. Won h'cap debut one year ago; poor comeback last month; wind surgery/cheekpieces may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(9) (10/1 +55%)Spitalfield |
10/1(+55%) | (9) Spitalfield 10/1, Outpaced, unsuited by the sharp trip at tight track well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Ludlow latest; effective 3m-3m2f on a sound surface; bit to prove at present but handicapper has relented and conditions will suit. Mark fine but hurdling often holds him back and tailed off all three starts since January. |

(3) (18/1 -200%)Spit Spot |
18/1(-200%) | (3) Spit Spot 18/1, Below form up in grade, set it up for closer when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Ascot last time; returning from a break; effective 2-3m, acts on any; progressing as a stayer until latest. Didn't handle rise in grade in November but previously went back-to-back; chance if ready. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (22/1 -57%)Heard That |
22/1(-57%) | (6) Heard That 22/1, Mistakes, continued in moderate form 33l third in a handicap chase at Market Rasen most recent run; effective 2 1/2-3m; fair mark on chase form but better in that sphere. Out of sorts over fences this term and the return to hurdles needs to turn his ship around. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

HEATHER HONEY has won a third of all her starts over hurdles and that reliability combined with proven stamina earns her the vote. Spit Spot is another effective stayer who needs to be taken seriously, with this representing a drop in class. Freshers Week and Hard Dealt are still of low mileage and support in the betting for either could prove to be significant. Inflexible's past form is noteworthy and he shouldn't be underestimated, despite resuming for a new yard after a lengthy break.

The vast majority of these have a question to answer which leaves HEATHER HONEY (nap) as the clear solid option.

(1) (150/1 -275%)North Moon |
150/1(-275%) | (1) North Moon 150/1, Pulled up in a Maiden Point at Ampton latest; off a short-break; acts on good; has left top Irish yard, all to prove. Showed only minor promise in Ireland; pulled up in a point on British debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

STUNG BY TARIFFS is bred to appreciate this sort of trip and looks worth chancing after qualifying for a workable opening mark with an improved third at Southwell. That was his best effort so far and the additional yardage could be ideal. Idaho Valley is consistent and the fitting of a tongue-tie has to be worth a try on the back of three placed efforts. Land Of Punt is upped in trip with cheekpieces added and is another handicap debutant to consider.

Tom Lacey's LAND OF PUNT took a good step forward when at Plumpton and is taken to make a winning handicap debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

NIGHTFLYER looked a bright prospect when he made a winning debut at Catterick and given the four-year-old's weight-for-age allowance means he gets weight from all bar one of his rivals, he could be well placed to follow up. Turbocharged also showed promise when introduced at Newbury in November and should be capable of building on that third-placed finish. The Flat-bred Oykel Bridge and point-to-point winner Locker Boum are others to monitor in the betting.

An interesting event with a few to consider but LOCKER BOUM's Irish point form got a right boost in an Ayr bumper in January.
Ths is the racecard key.
