25/1(-56%) | (8) Monark Wood 25/1, Promising effort runner-up beaten a length in a claiming hurdle at Fontainebleau only start; effective 2m; placed in French hurdle, may have more to offer for new yard. Raced twice in France, better effort when runner-up at Fontainebleau last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (150/1 -127%)Jedhi Knight |
150/1(-127%) | (6) Jedhi Knight 150/1, Every chance, below form well beaten in a 4yo hurdle at Chepstow latest; in good form prior; effective 2m on soft; 2m flat winner needs more over hurdles. Trailed home last in the Chepstow race won by Thewoodcorner; stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

THEWOODCORNER's Chepstow victory has worked out well, with both the runner-up and the fourth coming out and winning since. Nicky Henderson's string is in excellent form at present and he is expected to have more to offer, despite a 7lb penalty. Chico Magnifica changed hands after scoring on his handicap debut on the Flat at Hamilton in September and he enters the reckoning along with Monark Wood, who went close at Fontainebleau in November.

The most persuasive contenders on hurdles form are GALLIVANTED (narrowly preferreed) and Thewoodcorner.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (85/40 +23%)Maskarvel |
85/40(+23%) | (3) Maskarvel 85/40, Green and made mistakes, showed minor promise on debut comfortably held in a maiden hurdle at Kempton last time; off a short-break; effective 2m, acts on good; consistent in Irish bumpers, form franked, should come on for debut experience. 150/1(+25%) | (6) For Love Of Beauty 150/1, Never in the race well beaten in a maiden hurdle at Hereford latest; returning from a break; effective 2m; can do better if ridden bit more positively over hurdles but probably in handicaps. Needs improvement on debut for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (200/1 +0%)Charleyman |
200/1(+0%) | (2) Charleyman 200/1, Outpaced on modest debut when fourth beaten 51l in a novice hurdle at Lingfield latest; off a short-break; hard to fancy. Difficult to fancy on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (250/1 -25%)Simply A Dancer |
250/1(-25%) | (7) Simply A Dancer 250/1, Far too free well beaten in a bumper at Hereford latest; major improvement needed now hurdling. Hurdles debutante who holds very weak claims on bumper form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ZAMEK has displayed a useful level of form in three starts over timber and the combination of a recent wind operation along with a tongue-tie might see a change in fortune for Olly Murphy's gelding. Caspari was too green to do himself justice on his racecourse debut at Ludlow, but the half-brother to Luccia is entitled to take a big step forward. Others to note are Mr Jukebox and Maskarvel.

Wind surgery doesn't necessarily need to elicit improvement from ZAMEK, who is top on the figures. Maskarvel is next best on form.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

12/1(+45%) | (5) Tax For Max 12/1, Never jumped or travelled comfortably held in a handicap chase at Ludlow last time; effective 2m; out of form. 0-6 for current yard and has failed to derive benefit from going back over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/8 +0%)Icare Grandchamp |
15/8(+0%) | (6) Icare Grandchamp 15/8, Did it cosily and improved down in trip landing a handicap by 3/4l off a 4lb lower mark at Plumpton last time; effective around 2m4f, acts on soft, good; mark fair still, in form. Successful in this race for the last two years when with Henry Daly; debut for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (3/1 +33%)Reallyntruthfully |
3/1(+33%) | (3) Reallyntruthfully 3/1, Mistakes, below form off revised mark comfortably held in a handicap chase at Exeter last time; returning from a break; effective 2 1/2m, acts on good; revised mark demands more. Still unexposed over fences and has possibilities on return from break (goes well fresh). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

ICARE GRANDCHAMP has improved with each start this season, with Gary & Josh Moore's gelding winning on his most recent outing at Plumpton. He remains capable of further improvement and gets the vote at the main expense of Mahons Glory, who is likely using this as his prep towards a return to Aintree after two fine efforts over the National fences earlier in the campaign. A wind operation might aid the cause of Lounge Lizard in his bid to land a hat-trick in this contest.

The two runners who may still have further progress in them are ICARE GRANDCHAMP (nap) and Reallyntruthfully.

1st (5) (5/1 +75%)Imperial Pride |
5/1(+75%) | (5) Imperial Pride 5/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Leicester latest; cheekpieces first time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on soft and good; mark keeps falling but needs more. Hard to recommend unless transformed by the cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 -64%)Cloudy Wednesday |
9/2(-64%) | (3) Cloudy Wednesday 9/2, Travelled, ran to form benefitting from more patient handling landing a handicap by 2l off a 3lb lower mark at Market Rasen last time; returning from long layoff; effective 2m5f-3m, suited by sound surface; in form when last seen. Able when fresh, but wouldn't want the ground any easier than good to soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 -60%)Felton Bellevue |
3/1(-60%) | (4) Felton Bellevue 3/1, Returned to form landing a handicap by 3l off a 3lb lower mark at Plumpton last time; effective 3m, acts with cut; dropping in weights but below par this term. Back to form at Plumpton off only 3lb higher and this race isn't strong. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|R| (2) (3/1 -33%)Diamand De Vindecy |
3/1(-33%) | (2) Diamand De Vindecy 3/1, Too much to do after series of errors, flew home when second beaten 5l in a handicap chase at Catterick latest; effective 2-2 1/2m; could come on for debut effort and mark looks generous judged on flat form. Flat winner; maiden hurdler; his second on chase debut is something to build on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (11/4 +66%)The Blueberry One |
11/4(+66%) | (1) The Blueberry One 11/4, Paid price for chasing strong pace but travelled well to a point when fourth beaten 34l in a handicap chase at Taunton latest; effective 2 1/2m, acts on soft; capable of better judged on hurdle form. Only had seven races but has finished tailed off in both his chases after an absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Having capitalised on a declining mark at Plumpton, a 3lb rise shouldn't prevent Felton Bellevue from making another bold bid. However, DIAMAND DE VINDECY finished second on his chase bow at Catterick and any natural improvement could make him tough to beat. Cloudy Wednesday secured a fifth victory over fences at Market Rasen when last in action and is the pick of the remainder.

In a weak race there must be every chance that exposed veteran FELTON BELLEVUE will follow up his Plumpton win.

11/4(+17%) | (4) Cuillin Ridge 11/4, Improved up in trip in first time visor beaten 2l off a 2lb lower mark at Wetherby last time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on soft and good; running into form, unexposed over staying trips. Stuck to his task very well when second of nine at Wetherby (3m1f, soft) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (11/10 +45%)Castanea Breeze |
11/10(+45%) | (2) Castanea Breeze 11/10, Scored by 1 1/4l off a 9lb lower mark at Market Rasen three starts back; ran to form second beaten 6l off 90 last time, 1lb higher here; suited by 3m, acts on good to soft, good and probably softer; bit quirky but open to improving over staying trips. A win and two 2nds over 2m7f-3m1f on last three starts; major claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (16/1 0%)Pop's Folly |
16/1(0%) | (1) Pop's Folly 16/1, Outpaced, looked in need of stiffer test comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Kempton last time; acts with cut; do better now handicapping over staying trips. Heavy defeats at triple-figure odds recently but this handicap debut is far more realistic. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/1 +0%)Dartmouth Rose |
9/1(+0%) | (5) Dartmouth Rose 9/1, Ran to form but looked in need of stiffer test 15l third in a handicap hurdle at Lingfield most recent run; off a short-break; effective 2 1/2-3m, acts on good to softg, good; consistent, step back up in trip a plus. Consistent in her six handicaps, with one win; back up in trip and has place claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (8/1 +20%)Shorten Sassy |
8/1(+20%) | (6) Shorten Sassy 8/1, Outpaced, may have found ground too soft 26l third in a handicap hurdle at Hereford most recent run; effective around 3m, acts on good to soft and good; inconsistent in short career. Has shown her stamina over 3m2f at Hereford but others look more compelling for the win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (14/1 -522%)Connies Hill |
14/1(-522%) | (3) Connies Hill 14/1, Outpaced and never threatened down the field in a maiden hurdle at Kempton most recent; cheekpieces first time; effective at 2m on soft; point winner may have more to offer in handicaps now upped in trip. Cheekpieces are added for handicap debut over a very different trip; needs a close look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (200/1 -33%)Dontworrywegotthis |
200/1(-33%) | (7) Dontworrywegotthis 200/1, Continued in poor form comfortably held in a handicap hurdle here last time; ; yet to show anything over a variety of trips. Low-level maiden who's faced this sort of test regularly; 14lb out of the handicap today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

CASTANEA BREEZE was unlucky to bump into a subsequent winner at Fakenham and this could prove a suitable opportunity for him to regain the winning thread. A 1lb nudge up the ratings is unlikely to halt the six-year-old's progress and he's taken to repel Cuillin Ridge. Henry Daly's charge improved for a step up in trip when runner-up over 3m at Wetherby and another good account is forecast. Handicap debutant Connies Hill is worth a second look in the betting.

227 yards are added. Easily the two most solid candidates on current evidence appear to be CUILLIN RIDGE and Castanea Breeze.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (16/1 -113%)Dotties Star |
16/1(-113%) | (5) Dotties Star 16/1, Keen, returned to form back down in trip at favoured venue beaten 2 1/4l off a 1lb higher mark at Plumpton last time; effective 2m, acts on soft; form of hurdles win had knocks, needs to build on latest. Proved resurgent at Plumpton (the scene of his novice win) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/4 +7%)Moyganny Phil |
7/4(+7%) | (1) Moyganny Phil 7/4, Improved from debut when fourth beaten 21l in a maiden hurdle at Southwell latest; effective 2m, acts on good to soft; more to come for top yard in handicaps though may want further than 2m in time. Beaten favourite in both rules starts but may progress now handicapping; still of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (13/2 -18%)Snapius |
13/2(-18%) | (2) Snapius 13/2, Better effort down in class off reduced mark when second beaten 7 1/2l in a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield latest; trainer in form; effective 2m, suited by cut; needs to build on recent revival. Inconsistent this term but holds a fighting chance provided latest effort is backed up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (4/1 -45%)Thesoldiersminit |
4/1(-45%) | (3) Thesoldiersminit 4/1, Ran to form on handicap debut beaten 1/2l off a 1lb lower mark at Market Rasen last time; usually held up; effective 2m, acts on soft; more to come, possibly over further. Close third at Market Rasen last time on handicap debut; may take another step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (15/2 +53%)Glancing Back |
15/2(+53%) | (7) Glancing Back 15/2, Below form on final qualifying run down the field in a novice hurdle at Hereford most recent; bred to be effective 2m-2m4f; plenty to prove now qualified for handicaps. Has potential off her opening mark, being related to a few winners for her yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (14/1 +58%)Ramaah |
14/1(+58%) | (8) Ramaah 14/1, Every chance, ran to form comfortably held in a handicap hurdle here last time; effective 2m, acts on good to soft; needs more to get off the mark. Modest maiden over hurdles and needs to raise his game. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Although no match for the winner, Snapius returned to form with a solid second at Sedgefield. The seven-year-old cannot be dismissed off an unchanged mark, but there is a sneaking suspicion that we've yet to see the best of KALLY DES BRUYERES. He caught the eye when a staying-on fourth at Uttoxeter and subsequently found himself too far back at Market Rasen. A wind procedure could unlock significant potential and he gets the vote. Moyganny Phil is a feasible alternative.

A chance is taken on KALLY DES BRUYERES. Second pick is Moyganny Phil.

150/1(-200%) | (6) Middlecliffe 150/1, £5,000 Scorpion gelding; half-brother to Stoney Mountain, smart at 24f; yard without a winner since last summer. £5,000 3yo; stable isn't associated with bumper scorers. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Milpat made the most of his weight-for-age allowance when scoring with something in hand over C&D and he's likely to be involved once more. However, a 7lb penalty does demand more and HIDDEN MOUNTAIN is fancied to make it second-time lucky. Now under the tutelage of Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls, the five-year-old found only a subsequent Grade 2 winner too strong at Ayr, which suggests he might take some stopping. The market may guide on newcomers Bite The Bullet and The Hostage.

The strongest form contenders are MILPAT and Hidden Mountain, while Bite The Bullet and Vadalix are interesting newcomers.
Ths is the racecard key.
