The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

This is a highly competitive way to kick off an excellent day of racing and BYTHESAMETOKEN could get punters off to a flying start. The Ross O'Sullivan-trained veteran returned from a break with an enthusiastic third at Haydock a fortnight ago and, nudged down 1lb, he should be cherry-ripe for his bid to return to winning ways. The booking of Sean Bowen establishes connections mean business. Torneo, Aeros Luck and Breizh River all have solid enough credentials for the shortlist.

The rejuvenated Breizh River is a tempting option but preference is for TORNEO, who has been knocking firmly at the door.

11/1(+21%) | (1) Minella Drama 11/1, Taken on up front, made too much use of when fourth beaten 26l in a handicap chase at Market Rasen latest; effective 2 1/2m on decent ground; saves best for Aintree and inconsistent of late. 11/1(+8%) | (2) Ain't That A Shame 11/1, Ran to form comfortably held in Randox Grand National at Aintree last time; absent for very lengthy period; effective 2 1/2-3m, suited by cut; formerly very useful staying handicap chaser, likely to need stable debut. Ex-Irish 12yo; last seen finishing sixth in 2024 Grand National; bit to prove after layoff. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

PROTEKTORAT has bundles in hand based on official ratings and looks well placed to give his yard back-to-back winners of this race, while priming himself for a possible tilt at the Ryanair at Cheltenham in 12 days time. Minella Drama has been below his best of late, but he is a previous course winner who could be tough to reel in granted an easy lead. Ain't That A Shame resumes for a new stable after a 686-day break, but he can better Stolen Silver for third.

It's hard to look beyond PROTEKTORAT who justified favouritism at Windsor last month. Today's opposition is weaker.

Won at Musselburgh then second to Kosac d'Oudairies; down the pecking order on form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

STARMOUNT, who was a creditable fourth in the Grade 1 Formby at Aintree, made the most of dropping in class when he coasted home by 15 lengths at Wetherby. That impressive display suggests he is above average and this could provide him with the biggest win of his career so far. Le Beau Madrik is likely to be on the premises after a couple of victories at Newcastle. However, Montemares was far from disgraced in the Challow at Newbury and he might be a bigger danger.

The Dan Skelton-trained LE BEAU MADRIK impressed at Newcastle last month and is taken to make it 3-3 over hurdles.

Cracking Rhapsody has won this for the last two years and is back to do it all over again, although he competes off a 4lb higher mark 12 months on and hasn't shown a great deal in any of his last three appearances. It may pay to side with HAMLET'S NIGHT, who was just touched off by Rubaud in the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton in November and showed he's in good form when victorious on the Flat at Kempton recently. Captain Hugo and Wise Eagle are others to consider.

Course specialist CRACKING RHAPSODY (nap) can win the Morebattle Hurdle for a third consecutive season. Heart Above is second choice

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

More was expected of Florida Dreams when only sixth at Musselburgh at the start of the month, but he has been dropped 2lb and could show a lot more. Even so, GOOD TO BE ALIVE looks the way to go. Olly Murphy's charge made his third outing in a handicap a successful one at Plumpton and is likely to have plenty of improvement in him. Frontier Prince completes the shortlist.

The progressive Good To Be Alive commands respect but preference is for fellow 5yo SMART DECISION, unexposed at the trip.

(6) (125/1 -89%)Storm The Dug |
125/1(-89%) | (6) Storm The Dug 125/1, Green, poor debut down the field in a maiden hurdle at Musselburgh most recent; usually held up; stamina to prove hurdling. Failed to settle when always behind at 66-1 on recent hurdle debut at Musselburgh. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Bruce Banner sprung a 33/1 surprise at Musselburgh in November and is out to prove that was no fluke, but he might find it tough to give his penalty away to KEYBOARD. Adam Nicol's gelding has found one too good in each of his three timber starts, including behind Bruce Banner in that Musselburgh contest, but looks to have been found a good opportunity to go one better. It's highly unlikely Vivre Le Reve gave his true running at Wetherby and he isn't one to write off.

There is a concern KEYBOARD is not straightforward but he has shown some good form and this could be a good opportunity.

Third in Listed/Grade 2 races on last two starts and this is an excellent opportunity. |

17/2(+29%) | (7) Hunters Spring 17/2, Ran to form when fourth beaten 11l in a maiden hurdle at Newcastle latest; off a short-break; effective 2m, acts on good to soft and good; bumper winner should have more to offer over hurdles. Form is significantly inferior to that of A Path To Ronda but certainly a place contender. |

80/1(+20%) | (5) Bollin Skittle 80/1, Disappointing hurdle debut comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Carlisle last time; all to prove. Down the field in sole bumper and likewise when 100-1 on hurdle debut, also at Carlisle. |

(4) (125/1 +38%)Am I Bovvered |
125/1(+38%) | (4) Am I Bovvered 125/1, Keen, never threatened comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Carlisle last time; effective at 2 1/2m on good; may need more time. Pulled up/well beaten at triple-figure odds on her two hurdle starts and hard to fancy. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A PATH TO RONDA sets the standard having gained further valuable black type when placed in a Grade 2 at Warwick earlier in the month. The drop back in trip shouldn't be an issue, especially being a half-sister to the hugely talented Simonsig, and it will be disappointing if she is unable to get back to winning ways. Bittalemon was behind the selection in a Listed contest at Haydock just before Christmas but is capable of better, while Just An Artist completes the shortlist.

This looks an excellent opportunity for A PATH TO RONDA, who has finished third in Listed and Grade 2 races on her last two starts.

(1) (13/8 +0%)Push The Button |
13/8(+0%) | (1) Push The Button 13/8, Outpaced, unsuited by way race developed, looked in need of stiffer test well beaten in a handicap chase at Cheltenham latest; in good form prior; effective 2-2 3/4m, may not quite get 3m; more to come over fences now upped in trip. Started well over fences for new yard; below par at Cheltenham latest but this is easier. |

(2) (9/2 -80%)Old Gregorian |
9/2(-80%) | (2) Old Gregorian 9/2, Untested as sole rival fell when winning a beginners chase chase at Wetherby last time; returning from a break; effective 2m-2m3f, wants decent ground; consistent hurdler, unexposed over fences. Progressive over hurdles; gifted first race over fences; stamina to prove but unexposed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

PUSH THE BUTTON was fancied to go close in a typically competitive event on Trials Day at Cheltenham, but his jumping let him down at a crucial stage. His form earlier in the season reads particularly well, including a second at Ascot behind Steel Ally, and this appears a suitable confidence booster. Old Gregorian came home alone on his chase debut at Wetherby in October, but he jumped well in the main and is entitled to improve. Al Kalila has run with credit here and is preferred to Scarlet Jet.

Stuart Crawford's AL KALILA shaped well twice here towards the end of last year and stepping back down in trip looks a positive move.
Ths is the racecard key.
