CRIMINAL chased home a subsequent two-time winner in a class 4 handicap at Ascot and a step forward from that could suffice back in a novice stakes. John & Thady Gosden introduce a potential thorn in the side of the selection in Military Cross, who appeals on pedigree and debuts at a realistic level. However, with William Buick partnering his stable companion Port Of London, the betting will be helpful where the Godolphin-owned pair are concerned.

The biggest form contenders are CRIMINAL (narrowly preferred) and Port Of London.

FLASH OF FIRE did it nicely when she made a winning debut in a novice event at Doncaster in July. A Fillies' Mile entry, this daughter of Wootton Bassett is evidently held in high regard and her sights can realistically be raised if she copes with a penalty here. Tarot is an obvious danger after filling the runner-up slot in both previous starts. Venetian Romance's Lingfield introduction was promising enough for her to be shortlisted.

Doncaster winner FLASH OF FIRE could well find the required progress to defy a penalty. Tarot is respected on the figures.

FLYING MACS could be worth chancing after showing some improvement on her nursery debut at Lingfield. That was her first run after a short break and stepping up to a mile could be a source of improvement. Midnight Rodeo is feared, despite failing to justify favouritism at Musselburgh on his handicap bow. He has experience over the trip and can go well if adapting to Polytrack. Handicap newcomers Royalist and Warriors Choice also warrant betting checks.

With this longer trip likely to suit, MOHAAB could well build on her course effort. Midnight Rodeo is second pick.

The recent winners Falmouth Lad and Waistcoat have to be noted, but they could be vulnerable off their new ratings. With that in mind, preference is for ZOLDER, who remains unexposed and put in a promising effort when a close third off this mark over 7f here earlier in the month. Others to note are Lessay, Newfangled and Sense Of Worth.

Turned out quickly off a workable mark back at the scene of his two wins, LESSAY may be the answer. Zolder is second pick.

FLIGHTOFTHEPHOENIX arguably put in a career best when second over this distance at Southwell three weeks ago. That was only her second start in handicap company and Charlie Hills' filly may have more to offer here. Riyadh Gem also hit the crossbar on his most recent outing and could prove to be the main danger, ahead of Dragonflame and Mythical Bird.

A win for DRAGONFLAME looks imminent. Flightofthephoenix, a similar type, is second choice.

ROCK IGUANA confirmed the promise he displayed on debut when getting off the mark at Southwell next time out. The son of Wootton Bassett is likely to have more improvement to come and just tops the shortlist. Media Darling has a similar profile to the selection and has to be noted. Encore and Rose Of Honour should not be underestimated, despite their lack of race experience.

With the hood retained, ROCK IGUANA could well build on his Southwell win and follow up. Media Darling is second choice.

Havana Touch accounted for Bold Suitor over track and trip in May and holds an obvious chance on his return to the fray. Silca Bay beat Lexington Jet by a head over C&D earlier in the month and that form is likely to be confirmed. However, BRITISH BLUE makes the most appeal. The daughter of Blue Point's only success came on debut over C&D, and she didn't seem to enjoy the soft ground when only sixth at Sandown latest. A repeat of her previous third at Newbury might be good enough.

A chance is taken on BRITISH BLUE, who's had excuses with one thing and another on turf this year. Bold Suitor is second choice.

SAX APPEAL showed a likeable attitude to make it two wins from his last three starts at Newcastle and is just 4lb higher. With Oisin Murphy taking over in the plate, he remains the one to beat. Campaign Trail occupied the runner-up berth in a class 3 handicap at Newmarket in May and has to be respected off an unchanged rating. Kingdom Of Stars looks best of the rest.

Second in this race last autumn off an 11lb higher mark, RED FLYER is taken to bounce back now returned to the AW.

Carderock finished a respectable third over track and trip on his most recent outing and connections will be hoping the application of cheekpieces ekes out more. Cardinal Point hit the woodwork over 1m6f at Chelmsford on Thursday and this drop in trip looks a good move. However, PURE THEORY made the frame at Epsom and has been dropped 1lb. That leaves her on a career-low rating and she could capitalise.

The penny has finally dropped with CARDINAL POINT (nap) and she's preferred to Northern Blaze and consistent maiden Carderock.
Ths is the racecard key.
