9th (4) (300/1 -100%)Palace Tyne |
300/1(-100%) | (4) Palace Tyne 300/1, Well beaten at big prices over 7f both runs so far; looks one for low grade handicaps after this Never sighted at huge odds in both previous starts, hard to make a case for. |

Third on debut over course and distance last month, MONTREAL can land a first success. Sent off odds-on favourite for that latter race, the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was slowly away before keeping on nicely inside the final furlong. That was almost certainly an above average maiden, as the winner looked very smart and the second had decent form coming into the race. Granted normal improvement, Montreal should take this. A stablemate of the selection, the exceptionally well-bred Claret has to be monitored closely in the market. A half-brother to three black-type horses, he has the pedigree to be very smart. Res Ipsa, a full-brother to Red Letter, is another worth close consideration.

Wayne Lordan prefers MONTREAL of the Ballydoyle pair and he is open to any amount of improvement on just his second start

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (300/1 -100%)Chico Chico |
300/1(-100%) | (5) Chico Chico 300/1, Well beaten in a maiden over 6f at Navan only start; longer trip could suit but all to do 125-1 and failed to beat a rival on debut at Navan, may need more time. |

13th (6) (300/1 -200%)Drumaugh Boy |
300/1(-200%) | (6) Drumaugh Boy 300/1, Far Above gelding; half-brother to Monsieur Fantaisie, moderate at 7f; tough enough task on debut Far Above gelding, half-brother to a 6f-7f winner, best watched on debut. |

The Joseph O'Brien-trained CADOGAN looks to have been found a nice opportunity to make a winning reappearance. Runner-up to a subsequent dual Group 1 winner on debut, the form of that race has worked out exceptionally well, with both the third and fourth also proving high class performers. While unable to step up on that effort at this track next time, the son of Farhh may not have appreciated the softer ground. He is worth another chance to build on that initial promise. Wild Sapphire has plenty of experience at this level and, shouldn't be discounted in first-time headgear. Curragh third Slaney Drive should be all the better for that introduction.

SLANEY DRIVE and Wild Sapphire are the ones to focus on here with narrow preference for the former as his race fitness is assured

2nd (7) (15/8 +17%)Alakazi |
15/8(+17%) | (7) Alakazi 15/8, Well backed second beaten 2 1/4l in Colm McLoughlin Celebration Stakes (Listed) at The Curragh latest; probably bit to come but needs it up in grade Fine effort at the Curragh in June, Ben Coen's choice over Chicago Critic, progressive. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/2 +0%)Mutasarref |
7/2(+0%) | (4) Mutasarref 7/2, Won this last year; did not get a clear run 2l third in Minstrel Stakes (Group 2) over 7f at The Curragh most recent run; top course jockey; consistent; entitled to be thereabouts Last year's winner, second in 2023, only a nose in front of Lord Massusus on latest clash. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (11/4 +63%)Jancis |
11/4(+63%) | (6) Jancis 11/4, Ran to form fourth beaten 1/2l in Valiant Stakes (Group 3) at Ascot latest; this sharper track should suit; former Group winner here; trainer in form; contender Course 7f Group 3 winner, has kept good company, not beaten far in fourth at Ascot latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

With Ben Coen apparently favouring ALAKAZI over stablemate Chicago Critic, the hint should be taken. A lightly raced three-year-old with further scope for improvement after just four starts, the Johnny Murtagh-trained colt looks the one to beat. A maiden winner over this course and distance in April, he has subsequently acquitted himself well in two runs in Listed company. While this test represents another step up in class, he should be ready. The aforementioned Chicago Critic impressed when winning over course and distance on his penultimate start and may not have been suited to dropping in trip last time. The admirable Mutasarref has to be respected at a track where he seldom runs a bad race.

The winner in 2023 and third last year, LORD MASSUSUS may just edge out last year's winner Mutasarref.

6/5(+40%) | (3) Sons And Lovers 6/5, Yard has won 2 of last 10 runnings of race; ran to form beaten 2l in Wolferton Stakes (Listed) over 10f at Ascot last time; usually consistent; off a short-break; suited by 10f and a sound surface; go close if stamina holds up Smart at 1m2f, worth a shot at this trip after a staying-on fifth at Royal Ascot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/8 +0%)Crystal Black |
11/8(+0%) | (1) Crystal Black 11/8, Won this last year; probably needed race when fourth beaten 7l in Alleged Stakes (Group 3) over 10f at The Curragh latest; top course jockey; returning from a break; can resume progression back up in trip Highly progressive in winning all four races last year including this one, can repeat. |

22/1(-38%) | (4) This Songisforyou 22/1, Raced freely comfortably held in the Conditions Race over 1m6f at Galway last time; useful handicapper; more needed Unplaced in a Listed race at Roscommon on seasonal debut, failed to stay 1m6f at Galway. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (14/1 -87%)Layfayette |
14/1(-87%) | (2) Layfayette 14/1, Slowly away when down the field in a handicap at Galway most recent; usually held up; veteran has gone a long time without a win; bit to find Last win was in the Royal Whip almost a year ago, down the field in a Galway handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Winner of the corresponding race last year, CRYSTAL BLACK can follow up. Completing a five-timer on that occasion, the Ger Keane-trained gelding had landed the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot on his previous start. Off the track until April, the seven-year-old made a pleasing reappearance when fourth at the Curragh. Sure to be all the better for that outing, he has almost certainly had this race as a target since. Sons And Lovers looks the biggest threat on official ratings. A maiden winner for previous connections, the Joseph O'Brien-trained four-year-old finished a place in front of the selection in the aforementioned Curragh race. Siege Of Troy needs to improve but shouldn't be discounted.

CRYSTAL BLACK won this race last term and should be sharper than when Sons And Lovers was in front of him at the Curragh in April

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (20/1 -11%)Carrickfinn |
20/1(-11%) | (13) Carrickfinn 20/1, Travelled, ran to form beaten a length off 45 over 8f at Dundalk last time; wide draw; maiden but capable off this mark Speedy type should be suited by drop to 7f but his high draw is a negative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (2) (25/1 -79%)Cherry Pink |
25/1(-79%) | (2) Cherry Pink 25/1, Scored by a nose off 57 over 8f at Roscommon in May; well beaten latest; consistent prior; wide draw; place claims if getting stiff test Below form last two starts; moved to this yard after a poor run in a Bellewstown claimer. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (13/2 -44%)Akeela |
13/2(-44%) | (14) Akeela 13/2, Did not get a clear run beaten 2 1/4l off 46 at Limerick last time; top course jockey; longer trip no issue; can make presence felt Didn't get the clearest passage over 6.5f at Limerick last time and is one to consider. |

Unlucky in running at Limerick last time, AKEELA can make the breakthrough for new connections. A winner off 5lb higher in the past, the five-year-old is open to improvement on what is only her fourth start for trainer Ian Donoghue. Having been denied a clear run at the Patrickswell track, the daughter of Aclaim stayed on strongly once in the clear. Colin Keane looks a significant booking here on the mare. Runner-up in that aforementioned race, Miqdaad did very well to get so close under Ross Coakley after his stirrup leather broke. The John McConnell-trained gelding has every chance of gaining compensation. Killarney third Liamo is another with leading claims in an open contest.

Despite Ross Coakley's stirrup leather breaking at Limerick last time, MIQDAAD still finished a close second so can go one better today

9/1(+10%) | (19) Summer Island 9/1, Raced freely beaten 8 1/4l in a claimer over 8f at Killarney last time; significant jockey booking; well treated back in a handicap; chance Best effort when third at Ayr, needs to find extra judged on fifth in a claimer last time. |

It could pay to take a chance on handicap debutant COOLEY'S MIST for the in-form Natalia Lupini yard. A promising sixth on his introduction at this track back in April, the son of Churchill failed to back that up on two subsequent starts. However, from an opening mark of 67, the colt might be worth another chance to confirm the promise of that initial outing. Rockbury Lad needs everything to fall right but, given his hold-up style, stall 18 is no real cause for concern. In Colin Keane, he has the ideal partner to switch him off and arrive late from off a strong pace. Recent Naas scorer Star Mind has to be considered under a penalty.

The unexposed MEDIEVAL NIGHT could be on the blot on the handicap if he has matured well since a three-race juvenile campaign

10th (11) (150/1 -88%)Supreme Law |
150/1(-88%) | (11) Supreme Law 150/1, Probably needed race when down the field in a maiden over 12f at Galway most recent; generally out of form; opposed Longstanding maiden, didn't show enough on latest, 11lb wrong and others preferred. |

A beaten favourite at Down Royal last month, the Ross O'Sullivan-trained LADY KAI can recover losses. Having been hampered after halfway, the daughter of Sea The Stars stayed on well inside the final furlong to eventually finish third. A proven stayer, who should relish this test, she also has the services of one of the more established riders here in the shape of Josh Williamson. Dual bumper winner Friary Road is another that will lack for nothing in the saddle. Third in two maidens of late, the Ted Walsh-trained gelding has to be a contender on handicap debut under Josh Halford. Recent course and distance winner Curious Bride is another with leading claims.

LADY KAI comes into this on the back of two solid efforts and she may be able to get her head back in front
Ths is the racecard key.
