66/1(-100%) | (8) Private Policy 66/1, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 54l, in a maiden hurdle here last time. Effective from 2m to 2m7f on heavy, but the drop in trip may not suit. Career punctuated by long breaks and tailed off 15 days ago; others have better claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

200/1(-60%) | (7) Northern Ruler 200/1, Poor debut when down the field in a maiden hurdle at Thurles most recently. Usually held up and effective at 12f; a Flat winner but out of form for his new yard in both codes. AW winner didn't beat a rival at 125-1 on hurdling debut last time; ruled out. |

A big field for the opener but only a handful have claims and LYNCHES KNOCK is taken to go one better after his runner-up effort at this venue last month. The third-place finisher in that race has endorsed the form and Gordon Elliott's four-year-old, who holds a Fred Winter entry, can put his experience to good use having had two good runs in academy hurdles prior to his latest outing. Star Of The Week has had two solid runs in maidens and is a leading contender, while Triumph entry Dschingis Desire, a winner over 1m4f in France, is likely to leave behind a disappointing hurdles debut at Leopardstown.

Knocking on the door with placed efforts in both of his maidens, STAR OF THE WEEK is selected to make the breakthrough here

1st (5) (15/8 -56%)Majolique |
15/8(-56%) | (5) Majolique 15/8, Very promising on debut when a short-neck winner in a Fillies & Mares race at Longchamp; that form was franked at Listed level; could be a top class hurdles recruit and a leading contender here. French maiden winner on Flat; top yard has strong in hand in this division; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (12/1 +52%)Michonne |
12/1(+52%) | (6) Michonne 12/1, Showed some promise on debut when well beaten in a maiden hurdle at Leopardstown last time; off a short break, effective at 2m on yielding and improvement likely. Will need to improve considerably on Leopardstown debut effort to play a major role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (4/1 +0%)Adrienne |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Adrienne 4/1, Stopped quickly after a bad error when down the field in the Paddy And Maureen Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle (Listed) at Leopardstown most recently; effective at 2m, acts on any ground and in good form in both codes. Likely to be ridden to pick up the pieces. Penultimate Leopardstown Grade 2 second gives her place claims at least. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (80/1 -60%)Berto Ramirez |
80/1(-60%) | (1) Berto Ramirez 80/1, Every chance but below form when well beaten in a graduation hurdle at Punchestown last time; effective at 2m on soft and likely one for handicaps over hurdles. Satisfactory hurdles debut but soundly beaten since; hard to fancy at this level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/10 +56%)Immediate Effect |
11/10(+56%) | (2) Immediate Effect 11/10, Outclassed and comfortably held in Gannon's City Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 1) at Leopardstown last time; trainer in form, effective at 2m and acts on yielding, but the debut winner could bounce back dropped in class if handling conditions. Punchestown maiden winner exposed at Grade 1 level since but definite claims down in grade. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

A decent handicapper on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott, IMMEDIATE EFFECT lived up to his name when winning on stable debut at Punchestown. He was outclassed in a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival earlier this month, but the Study Of Man gelding can take full advantage of this drop in class. On ratings and a line of form through Narciso Has, a good case can be made for Adrienne and her latest run, where she dropped away after a bad mistake, is readily forgiven. A winner over 1m2f at Longchamp last May, Majolique holds a Triumph entry and commands plenty of respect.

Not a strong race and Triumph Hurdle entry MAJOLIQUE is expected to make a winning start over hurdles

1st (13) (14/1 +0%)Give Him A Chance |
14/1(+0%) | (13) Give Him A Chance 14/1, Outpaced and unsuited by the way the race developed but well held in a better handicap hurdle at Leopardstown most recent. Had been in good form prior; usually held up; effective at 2 1/4m and ideally wants 2 1/2m; progressive until latest but this looks a sharp enough test. Both wins came over 2m4f on good; nice runs in defeat recently but last time was poor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

28/1(+15%) | (8) Catch The Beast 28/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Navan latest. Effective at 2 1/2m and suited by cut; inconsistent overall. Okay run on seasonal return in tongue tie; wasn't applied when PU latest nor here. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (12/1 -20%)Collaborative |
12/1(-20%) | (6) Collaborative 12/1, Met trouble but ran to form up in trip when beaten 1 1/4l off a 2lb lower mark at Limerick last time. Off a short break; effective from 2m to 3m and acts on testing ground; back in form. Dual hurdles winner has finished second in his last two runs; solid option. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (14) (9/1 +36%)Piccolo Player |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (7/1 -17%)Fierce Handay |
7/1(-17%) | (3) Fierce Handay 7/1, Scored by 4l off a 14lb lower mark at Fairyhouse three starts back. Far too free when fourth in a novice hurdle at Navan latest; effective at 2m with cut and will get further; consistent until latest and mark looks fair. H'cap winner is better than he showed latest; appears pick of owner's two. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (11/2 +39%)Joueur Masque |
11/2(+39%) | (4) Joueur Masque 11/2, Every chance but disappointing when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown most recent. Significant jockey booking; off a short break; effective at 2m and acts on soft and yielding; surely has more to offer now handicapping but mark demands it. Bumper/hurdles winner has been underwhelming in opening two handicap outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (16) (7/2 +59%)Peaceinthevalley |
7/2(+59%) | (16) Peaceinthevalley 7/2, Improved up in trip, pulling clear of the remainder when second beaten 6 1/2l in a handicap hurdle here latest. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on heavy and yielding; in form, unexposed but a longer trip could suit in time. Improved over handicap debut when runner-up here last time; not much mileage on clock. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (12/1 -50%)Moudan |
12/1(-50%) | (9) Moudan 12/1, Ran to form, just tiring late up the hill when second beaten 11l in a handicap hurdle here latest. Enjoys making it; effective at around 2m and suited by plenty of cut; progressive and hurdles mark looks generous. Dual hurdles winner won a chase before taking second back over hurdles latest; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (17) (25/1 -108%)Be Fierce |
25/1(-108%) | (17) Be Fierce 25/1, Travelled well and returned to form back over hurdles, suited by testing ground, when landing a handicap by a head off a 5lb lower mark at Punchestown last time. Effective at 2m and acts on good, best with cut; could come on for latest and remain competitive. Bagged second hurdling win back from a break by a head last time; up 5lb and this harder. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (12/1 +25%)I A Connect |
12/1(+25%) | (12) I A Connect 12/1, Scored by 4 1/2l off a 12lb lower mark at Down Royal on his penultimate start. Made too much use of when seventh beaten 18l off 112 last time and runs off the same mark here; effective from 2m to 2 1/2m but a weak finisher and inconsistent. Dual hurdles winner got second chase win on penultimate; weakened over hurdles here latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (5/1 +44%)Cut The Rope |
5/1(+44%) | (10) Cut The Rope 5/1, Ran to form but challenged too soon off a strong pace when beaten 3 1/4l off a 1lb lower mark at Leopardstown last time. Off a short break; effective at 12f and acts on soft; consistent over hurdles. Bumper winner is 0-11 over hurdles but was a close fifth last time; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (1) (80/1 -142%)Fiveonefive |
80/1(-142%) | (1) Fiveonefive 80/1, Pulled up in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham latest; usually held up and off a short break. Effective at 2m but on a stiff mark and conditions a worry. Creditable fifth at Cheltenham but PU in Grade 3 when last seen; needs to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (11) (50/1 +0%)Granville Street |
50/1(+0%) | (11) Granville Street 50/1, May have found the ground too soft when well beaten in a handicap hurdle here latest. Effective at 2 1/2m and acts on good ground; out of form in both codes since a layoff. Has had five runs (two on Flat) after long absence with little success; hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (33/1 -200%)Raydamann |
33/1(-200%) | (7) Raydamann 33/1, Continued in poor form when beaten 6 1/4l in the Challenge Race at Punchestown last time. Trainer in form and consistent over hurdles. Versatile ground wise so could bounce back in this discipline. Maiden hurdle winner was last seen well beaten on Flat in October; ground against him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (33/1 -65%)Le Grand Peinture |
33/1(-65%) | (2) Le Grand Peinture 33/1, Made too much use of when beaten 10l in a Listed handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse last time; had been in good form prior. Returning from a long layoff, effective at 2m and acts on soft; still early days in handicaps but may just need this. Easy maiden hurdle winner and not a bad eighth in a Listed h'cap when last seen in April. |

PEACEINTHEVALLEY was well clear of third-placed veteran Rebel Gold when finding one too good over a longer trip here last month and Henry de Bromhead's unexposed seven-year-old is taken to make the breakthrough now. He had previously shown up well over this distance on handicap debut and testing ground holds no fears for JJ Slevin's mount, whose light weight is another positive. Progressive in handicaps prior to a below-par run at Navan, Fierce Handay is capable of bouncing back to form, while Whimsy, a fine third in a mares' contest at the Dublin Racing Festival, should be involved in the finish again but her overall record suggests that she is more likely to place than win.

Mark Walsh rides FIERCE HANDAY. He is better than he showed last time and could resume progress

1st (5) (5/2 -100%)Melbourne Shamrock |
5/2(-100%) | (5) Melbourne Shamrock 5/2, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 4l, in a maiden hurdle at Navan last time. Cheekpieces are fitted for the first time, the trainer is in form, and he is effective over 2 3/4-3m on soft, with his penultimate form franked and he should be competitive now handicapping. Cheekpieces on for handicap debut and improvement likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +64%)Minella Sixo |
4/1(+64%) | (3) Minella Sixo 4/1, Never threatened and was comfortably held in a Listed Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown last time on ground more testing than ideal. A top jockey is back on board, he is effective at around 3m and suited by good ground, and should come on for that run. Threat if coping with conditions. Wasn't disgraced at DRF recently but ideally wants better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 +40%)Ontheropes |
6/1(+40%) | (6) Ontheropes 6/1, Unsuited by the way the race developed and wanting a stiffer test when 17l third in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown most recently. Effective over 3m+, he has tumbled down the weights, is on a good mark judged on chase form and could build on that latest couple of runs. Veteran hard to be confident in nowadays but can't rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (50/1 -52%)Waittillitellyou |
50/1(-52%) | (4) Waittillitellyou 50/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Navan last time. Usually held up and returning from a short break, he is effective over 2 1/2-3m and suited by plenty of cut, but the handicapper may have caught up with him. Entitled to come on for comeback run and has his ground although mark still high. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (6/1 -50%)Well Del |
6/1(-50%) | (8) Well Del 6/1, Needed every yard and improved for the step up in trip on his stable debut when landing a handicap by a neck off a 7lb lower mark at Punchestown last time. Effective over 2 1/2-3m and acts on any ground, with his hurdles mark fair judged on chase form. Wednesday's Punchestown winner expected to make bold bid under 7lb penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (12/1 +64%)Jeriko De Baune |
12/1(+64%) | (9) Jeriko De Baune 12/1, Did plenty early when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Gowran Park most recently. Effective over 2 1/2-3m and suited by plenty of cut, but he can race lazily and has been unreliable of late. Clonmel winner but two poor runs since temper enthusiasm. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (7/1 +7%)Harry Des Ongrais |
7/1(+7%) | (2) Harry Des Ongrais 7/1, Made too much use of in first-time cheekpieces when down the field in a Grade 3 Handicap Chase at Leopardstown most recently. Effective over 2 1/2m and acts on soft, but his current mark looks high enough. Back hurdling after two sub-par runs over fences; handles heavy so don't rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (16/1 0%)Hartur D'arc |
16/1(0%) | (7) Hartur D'arc 16/1, Pulled up in a Listed Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown last time. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time, he is effective over 3m and acts with cut, but he is out of form for his new yard. Out of form since December return; cheekpieces tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (12/1 -71%)D Art D Art |
12/1(-71%) | (1) D Art D Art 12/1, Pulled up in a Listed Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown last time. Effective over 2-2 1/2m and acts on any ground, but his mark looks stiff and he has yet to fully convince with his stamina for 3m. Ran okay in last year's Pertemps Final but recent runs far from encouraging. |

In first-time cheekpieces MELBOURNE SHAMROCK appeals off an initial mark of 121. Sold for 125,000 pounds after winning a point-to-point, the Hillstar seven-year-old has been running well of late, going down by just a head on his penultimate start. Carrying the Grand National and Gold Cup winning silks of Robert Waley-Cohen, the lightly-raced bay makes his first appearance in handicap company and a positive showing here might see him book his ticket for Cheltenham. First and third at Punchestown on Wednesday, Well Del and Ontheropes are set for a quick turnaround, with the former sure to be well fancied in his bid to follow up. D Art D Art and Minella Sixo are others for the shortlist.

Punchestown winner Well Del demands plenty of respect but MELBOURNE SHAMROCK (nap) gets the vote in first-time cheekpieces

3/1(-20%) | (4) Low Kick 3/1, The yard has won 3 of the last 5 runnings of this race. He improved for his debut experience when second, beaten 9l in a bumper at Navan latest. Effective over 2m and acts on soft and good ground, he remains competitive. Recent Navan second holds possible race-fitness advantage here and handles conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 -14%)It's Good To Talk |
4/1(-14%) | (3) It's Good To Talk 4/1, A Caravaggio gelding and half-brother to A Dream To Share, who was exceptional at 16f winning the Champion Bumper. His dam was smart at 12f and the trainer is in form, so he brings a strong pedigree and stable confidence into this race. Half-brother to a top bumper performer Dream To Share has to be respected on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (11/10 +20%)State Pension |
11/10(+20%) | (1) State Pension 11/10, Still green but improved from his debut when winning an auction bumper at Tipperary by 11l last time. Returning from a break, he is effective over 2m and acts on soft ground. Progressive and looks useful, a big player if handling conditions. Absent since Tipperary win in October; big player if handling conditions. |

12/1(-9%) | (5) Ludus Magnus 12/1, Showed promise on debut in a strong contest when well beaten in a bumper at Punchestown on his only start. 20/1(-100%) | (2) Allroadsleadtorome 20/1, A 24,000 euros purchase, this Golden Horn horse makes appeal on pedigree. Half brother one first time out on the Flat. His breeding suggests potential for this type of contest. Flat-bred for whom market best guide on belated debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (100/1 -257%)Pamelaisbrass |
100/1(-257%) | (6) Pamelaisbrass 100/1, An Austrian School mare and half-sister to Must Meet Cecil, who was useful from 18f to 20f. She is bred for stamina and may just find this a sharp enough test on rules debut. Half-sister to winning hurdler Must Meet Cecil seems best watched on debut. |

IT'S GOOD TO TALK looks a very interesting contender on his racecourse debut. A Gleeson family homebred, the Caravaggio grey is a half-brother to Raise You and A Dream To Share, with the latter winning the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and the Punchestown equivalent in 2023. Bought by current connections for 170,000 pounds after finishing third on debut in a bumper at Aintree, Low Kick is sure to have plenty of supporters. Second to an impressive winner on his Irish debut at Navan last month, it'll come as a surprise if he's not involved towards the business end. An 11-length winner on good to yielding at Tipperary in October, State Pension warrants the utmost respect, while Ludus Magnus is the most interesting of the remainder.

State Pension looked a nice prospect in the autumn but may have to give second best to the race-fit LOW KICK on this ground

Enjoys making the running and is effective from 2m to 2m4f, acting on heavy and good ground. A frustrating type with something to prove after that latest effort but chance on best form. Three-time winner has often disappointed as favoutite; PU last time when never travelled. |

2nd (1) (11/4 +31%)Touch Me Not |
11/4(+31%) | (1) Touch Me Not 11/4, Ran to form when a game 14l third in the Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase (Grade 3) at Fairyhouse last time, having done plenty early off a big weight. Trainer in form; effective at 2m and suited by cut; consistent and should remain competitive at this level. Grade 2 winner has run solid races last two times; solid but race conditions against him. |

3rd (3) (15/8 -7%)Captain Guinness |
15/8(-7%) | (3) Captain Guinness 15/8, Below form and comfortably held in the Paddy's Rewards Club Chase (Grade 1) at Leopardstown last time when up in grade. Off a short break; effective at 2m and acts with cut. A former Grade 1 winner who has had issues and is not the force of old, now erratic. Not anywhere near his best this season; should be a player but risky proposition on form. |

4th (5) (16/1 +36%)Path D'oroux |
16/1(+36%) | (5) Path D'oroux 16/1, Never in the race when down the field in the Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase (Grade 3) at Fairyhouse last time. Effective at 2m but needs to bounce back from that latest effort. Useful chaser at his best but record of 1-18 off putting; tailed off in Grade 3 latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (28/1 +15%)Drumgill |
28/1(+15%) | (4) Drumgill 28/1, Ran to form but did not find much having looked a threat when down the field in the Barberstown Castle Handicap Chase (Listed) at Leopardstown last time. Effective from 2m to 3m, acts on soft and is best on a sound surface; looks on a stiff mark. Has done well since taking on shorter distances but likely out of his depth here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Despite his advancing years, it's difficult to look beyond 2024 Champion Chase hero CAPTAIN GUINNESS. While he has yet to put his best foot forward this season, he should appreciate this significant drop in class. Fourth in the Fortria at Navan in November, where the selection pulled up, Touch Me Not appears to be the main threat. He has already beaten all of his rivals in recent months and while having to give weight all around here, he might still come out on top. Already successful at this grade in 2024, Blood Destiny warrants the utmost respect, despite the fact he pulled up when last seen at Fairyhouse.

Both CAPTAIN GUINNESS and Blood Destiny have questions to answer with the tentative vote given to the former

7/2(+30%) | (4) Goraibhmaithagat 7/2, Had too much to do but improved and looked in need of a stiffer test when third beaten 6 1/2l in a handicap chase here last time. Wants at least 2 1/2m and there is plenty more to come over fences when stepped up in trip if ridden more positively. Hurdles winner kept on for third over C&D last time; the choice of Walsh. |

2nd (7) (11/1 -83%)Magic Mccolgan |
11/1(-83%) | (7) Magic Mccolgan 11/1, Travelled well and improved when second beaten 12l in a beginners chase here last time. A top jockey is back on board. Effective over 2 1/2m and acts on soft ground, progressing over fences. Decent second in a C&D beginners' last time; may do better now in h'cap chases. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (16/1 +76%)The Busy Fool |
16/1(+76%) | (6) The Busy Fool 16/1, Made mistakes but showed some improvement, never threatening when down the field in a beginners chase at Fairyhouse last time. 8/1(+27%) | (1) He's Gorgeous 8/1, Outpaced before rallying and ran to form when second beaten 5l in a novice chase at Down Royal last time, shaping as though in need of a stiffer test. Effective over 2 1/2m, acts on any ground and progressive, so worth this step back up in trip. Taken well to chasing winning a beginner's and running well in defeat; trip should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (13/2 +35%)Three In A Row |
13/2(+35%) | (10) Three In A Row 13/2, Had too much to do but ran to form when second beaten 4l in a handicap chase here last time. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time. Effective over 2 1/2m and suited by cut, though inconsistent but goes well when the money is down. Winning hurdler was narrowly beaten over fences in Dec' and runner-up again last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (40/1 -60%)Harvard Guy |
40/1(-60%) | (2) Harvard Guy 40/1, Landed a Navan Handicap Hurdle (Listed) by 3/4l off a 3lb higher mark in January but was never in the race and well beaten last time. 40/1(-100%) | (3) Park Of Kings 40/1, Improved but never threatened and shaped as though wanting a stiffer test when comfortably held in a beginners chase at Fairyhouse last time. Effective over 2 1/2-3m but yet to match hurdle form and looks one for handicaps over further fences. Three-time hurdles winner has been well beaten in three beginners'; others more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (9) (7/1 +22%)Rusheen |
7/1(+22%) | (9) Rusheen 7/1, Improved on his return from a break to cause a shock when landing a handicap by 4l off an 8lb lower mark here last time. Effective over 2 1/2-2 3/4m and acts with cut. 10th (8) (12/1 +0%)Mywayofthinkin |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

An embarrassment of riches for JP McManus, with his five representatives all capable of taking this competitive heat. Three In A Row, who sports first-time cheekpieces, and Goraibhmaithagat appear to be his principal contenders, with the pair second and third to the reopposing Rusheen over C&D last month. Bidding for a fourth win in a row, Kobalt St Georges might still be ahead of the handicapper, while Leopardstown winner Kish Bank and the Willie Mullins-trained Magic McColgan are others to keep on side. For a selection, it might be worth taking a chance on THE BUSY FOOL. A smart performer over flights, he has been disappointing of late, but could be a different proposition starting off in handicap company.

Mark Walsh picks Goraibhmaithagat from the owner's five. He kept on for third over C&D last time and can do better now
Ths is the racecard key.
