1st (3) (2/1 +43%)Le Frimeur |
2/1(+43%) | (3) Le Frimeur 2/1, Yard has won last two runnings of race; very promising debut beating more experienced rivals when winning a maiden hurdle at Chepstow by 1 1/2l last time; effective 2 1/2m, acts on soft; point and hurdles winner, more to come for top connections. Came clear with the useful runner-up when justifying short odds in a maiden at Chepstow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (13/8 -95%)Came From Nowhere |
13/8(-95%) | (1) Came From Nowhere 13/8, Did it comfortably, improved benefitting from patient ride off strong pace when winning a handicap hurdle at Ascot by 3l last time; off a short-break; effective 2-2 1/2m, acts with cut; progressive since going handicapping, could defy big weight here. Improving novice who was withdrawn at Cheltenham last week; sets the standard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

9/2(-50%) | (5) Doujadou 9/2, Promising debut behind useful winner when second beaten 13l in a novice hurdle at Chepstow latest; effective 2m, acts on soft; knew job on debut but should progress a little, may get this bit further. Clear of the third when chasing home the classy Bossman Jack at Chepstow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

10/1(+75%) | (8) Mr Finch 10/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Warwick latest; effective 2m3f, acts on soft; debut form franked, could bounce back on better ground. Has to step up plenty on his 2m3f form under rules (soft/heavy). |

250/1(-25%) | (4) Agent Argylle 250/1, Never threatened comfortably held in a novice hurdle here last time; usually held up; sound surface suits; point winner needs more. Ran okay in a bumper but tailed off in two runs over hurdles; this is no easier. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (400/1 -100%)Global Fortune |
400/1(-100%) | (6) Global Fortune 400/1, Green, mistakes, poor debut down the field in a maiden hurdle here most recent; point winner needs plenty more to figure under rules. He was tailed off at odds of 150-1 in a 2m maiden here a month ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Stepping up to an extended 2m3f, coupled with the application of a tongue-tie, has worked the oracle for CAME FROM NOWHERE. The Shirocco gelding broke his hurdling duck at Hereford before following up comfortably in a warm handicap at Ascot and, now afforded an ease in class, he can complete the hat-trick. Point winner Le Frimeur made a successful start under Rules at Chepstow in November, although that form hasn't worked out quite as well so Doujadou might prove to be the biggest threat.

Harry Derham has won the last two renewals of this race and he looks to have a nice prospect on his hands in LE FRIMEUR.

1st (2) (9/2 +0%)El Capitaine |
9/2(+0%) | (2) El Capitaine 9/2, Every chance, below form well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Chepstow latest; in good form prior; off a short-break; effective at around 2m5f, acts on soft and good to soft; prolific in points, in good form for new yard until latest, may have more to offer now chasing. Winning hurdler this season; record of 7-8 in points bodes well for this switch to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/4 -38%)Captain Bellamy |
11/4(-38%) | (1) Captain Bellamy 11/4, Didn't handle the heavy ground, found to have wound comfortably held in a handicap chase here last time; cheekpieces first time; effective 2 1/2-2 3/4m; good mark on hurdle form, can win soon over fences back on better ground. Nearly won over C&D in December; heavy ground an excuse when tailed off latest. |

3rd (4) (5/2 +9%)He Knows Better |
5/2(+9%) | (4) He Knows Better 5/2, Improved back down in trip landing a handicap by 3/4l off a 5lb lower mark at Southwell last time; effective at around 2 1/2m, just about gets 3m; in good form over fences, latest run boosted. 5lb higher than for beating one exposed last time but he's an improving chaser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/4 +0%)Fresh Kicks |
11/4(+0%) | (3) Fresh Kicks 11/4, Ran to form suited by positive at sharp track when second beaten 4 1/2l in a handicap hurdle at Ludlow latest; trainer in form; effective 2m4f/2m5f, acts on soft, good; with top yard, consistent hurdler; big player on chase debut. Not overly appealing on his hurdling exploits but he has the look of a chaser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (17/2 +39%)Lylian |
17/2(+39%) | (5) Lylian 17/2, May have found ground too quick 14l third in a handicap chase at Doncaster most recent run; effective 2m1f-2m6f, suited by cut; chase winner in France, needs more for new yard. He has at least dropped 13lb for his troubles and he'll probably come good sooner or later. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

It looks best to stick with HE KNOWS BETTER, who got up late to record a first chasing success at Southwell. A 5lb rise looks fair given that the runner-up has gone close again since and with a return to further also in his favour, he can repeat the dose. Captain Bellamy was just touched off over C&D in December and although not as good last time, he might fare better in first-time cheekpieces. Fencing debutant Fresh Kicks could also have a say.

Unlucky here in December and with heavy ground a feasible excuse last time, CAPTAIN BELLAMY can get off the mark over fences.

5/6(+52%) | (1) Helnwein 5/6, Bit too free off steady pace comfortably held in Festive Handicap Hurdle at Ascot last time; trainer in form; off a short-break; effective 2m, suited by decent ground; generally consistent but slight enthusiasm concerns. Second in the Greatwood before his fifth at Ascot in a race that's worked out oh so well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (7/2 -5%)Across Earth |
7/2(-5%) | (7) Across Earth 7/2, Ran to form beaten a length off this mark at Huntingdon last time; off a short-break; effective 2m, suited by sound surface, acts on good to soft; progressing, more to come judged on flat form. Running well but was beaten off this mark in a weaker race at Huntingdon last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

40/1(-21%) | (3) Gentleman Joe 40/1, Every chance, below form down the field in a handicap at Newcastle most recent; effective 2m; not fully exposed in this sphere and for this yard; fair mark on Flat form; probably bit to come. Flat/hurdle winner; it was a quiet debut for the yard on the AW at Newcastle a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 +18%)Cornish Storm |
9/2(+18%) | (4) Cornish Storm 9/2, Improved suited by positive ride at sharp track down in trip landing a handicap by 3 1/2l off a 6lb lower mark at Warwick last time; effective 2m, just about gets 2m3f, acts on soft, good to soft and good; in career best form. Collective 9lb rise demands more but should give himself every chance with a positive ride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (20/1 -43%)Chief Sunday |
20/1(-43%) | (8) Chief Sunday 20/1, May have found ground too testing comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las last time; tongue-tie first time; effective 2m, acts on soft and good; form has tailed off this term but now back on last winning mark. Tried chasing earlier this season and hasn't offered enough back hurdling the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (9/1 -38%)Nowmelad |
9/1(-38%) | (5) Nowmelad 9/1, Ran to form suited by positive ride at sharp track beaten 1 1/2l off this mark at Hereford last time; off a short-break; effective 2m-2m3f, acts on any; generally consistent. Ran his usual honest race when going down narrowly at Hereford in January. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Cornish Storm merits respect having notched up a brace, but the vote goes to HELNWEIN. After chasing home Alexei in the Greatwood, Alan King's charge finished a creditable fifth in an Ascot race that couldn't have worked out any better. He returns to action with his yard among the winners and a marked drop in class can only be viewed as a further positive. Across Earth remains open to improvement and should not be underestimated, while the veteran Faivoir is no back number.

Alan King's HELNWEIN (nap) has a notable record when fresh and his fifth at Ascot last time could barely have worked out better.

Below form latest start; best form this term was over C&D, so he's not entirely ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

5/1(+29%) | (4) J J Moon 5/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Doncaster latest where stopped quickly; off a short-break; effective at around 2 1/2m; progressive until latest, mark demands more. Flop as favourite at Doncaster (3m, good) in December latest; needs to resume improvement. |

Moving up to 3m at this track proved an excellent fit three weeks ago when he won smoothly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (14/1 +13%)Luttrell Lad |
14/1(+13%) | (7) Luttrell Lad 14/1, Didn't stay on testing ground when fourth beaten 54l in a handicap hurdle at Warwick latest; effective 2-2 1/2m, acts on any but suited by decent ground; consistent until latest but stamina concerns once again. Tailed off on heavy latest; first foray beyond 2m6f, after 37 races and at the age of ten. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (6/1 +50%)Botox Has |
6/1(+50%) | (2) Botox Has 6/1, Returned to form 12l third in National Spirit Hurdle (Grade 2) at Fontwell most recent run; effective 3m, best with plenty of cut; not as good as he was but mark falling and longer trip could suit. 10yo who's not the force of old; down the weights and this race is a drop in class. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Not at her best in testing ground last time, SUPREME MALINAS won a Listed contest over 2m3f prior to that. She could prove better than her opening mark, having beaten a subsequent Listed winner at Haydock, while this extra test of stamina also promises to bring about further improvement. Progressive C&D winner Peacenik has a 9lb hike to contend with, but could still prove a bigger threat than J J Moon and Lihyan.

Calculations appear to be dominated by last month's C&D winner PEACENIK and the seriously unexposed novice Supreme Malinas.

|PU| (11) (28/1 -27%)Dunstall Rambler |

Has new headgear on but all his three career wins have come at about 2m. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Impressive at Taunton on last month's return from a break, WHERESMEMONEYGONE makes most appeal. Ben Pauling's improving chaser beat a previous dual winner on that occasion, with a subsequent winner back in third, and another bold bid looks assured on the strength of that form. Successful at Doncaster on his chasing bow prior to a solid Chepstow second, Another Fine Mess could emerge as the main danger, ahead of last year's winner The Boola Boss.

A competitive chase but KING CALIFET shaped very well on his second chase start here recently and he can improve on that form.

Best form has been in the mud but needs considering after chasing home an improver. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Having spreadeagled the field over an extended 2m4f here last month, De Kingpin must enter calculations off 7lb higher. He previously finished third over C&D and a return to this trip shouldn't prevent another bold display, but it could be worth chancing handicap debutant JACKPOT CAUVELIERE. Harry Derham's inmate landed his sole 3m point-to-point by 20 lengths and his latest fourth at Ffos Las suggested that this greater emphasis on stamina could unlock significant improvement. Market support for Rialannah on her stable bow would be interesting.

One who could improve for a step up in trip is NAME ME NICELY who found 2m5f around Ludlow too sharp but he still ran well.

(8) (2/1 -82%)Mister Coffey |
2/1(-82%) | (8) Mister Coffey 2/1, Never competitive after series of errors comfortably held in a handicap chase here last time; suited by 3m+; consistent but frustrating, mark fair but struggles to win given enthusiasm concerns; the class angle in the field but risky. Famously gone 0-19 over fences but perhaps this will be the day in his first hunter chase. |

10/1(+44%) | (6) Empire De Maulde 10/1, Pulled up in a point at Badbury Rings latest where probably needed run; effective 3m, suited by sound surface; consistent under rules last year. Pulled up in a recent point but he did very nearly win this race 12 months ago. |

11/1(+8%) | (1) Fil D'ariane 11/1, Ran to form when second beaten a head in an Open Point at Didmarton latest; off a short-break; effective 3m; in good form when last seen under rules and a recent point winner. Quite closely matched with Java Point on their Ludlow form in January. |

(2) (12/1 -85%)Java Point |
12/1(-85%) | (2) Java Point 12/1, Ran to form on ground softer than ideal when second beaten 6l in a hunter chase at Southwell latest; effective 3m, needs a sound surface; more to come in these races. Soft ground against him when no match for Jeffery's Cross last time and better expected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (66/1 0%)Arthur's Sixpence |
66/1(0%) | (5) Arthur's Sixpence 66/1, Pulled up in a point at Badbury Rings latest; effective 2 1/2-3m; point and rules winner but plenty to prove after lay off. He's 12 now and was pulled up in a recent point after quite a lengthy break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Although MISTER COFFEY may not be at the peak of his powers, he's no back number judged on his exertions in his current campaign. The veteran posted a good second on his seasonal bow at Cheltenham in November and even a repeat of his latest fifth here may prove good enough. The biggest threat might emerge from recent Southwell winner Jeffery's Cross, although reopposing runner-up Java Point is expected to finish closer given the drying ground.

This could be the day, on his hunter chase debut, that MISTER COFFEY finally sheds his famous maiden tag over fences.
Ths is the racecard key.
