There were 44 Races on Friday 17th January 2025 across 6 meetings. There was 8 races at Market Rasen, 7 races at Newcastle, 7 races at Cork, 7 races at Windsor, 7 races at Dundalk, 8 races at Southwell, no doubt Tomform helped you find a winner.
The data in the racecards below is for the past year. View the racecard key.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

STORM STAR accounted for Apiarist (second), Popmaster (third) and Symbol Of Light (fourth) over track and trip on New Year's Day and that is likely to be the key piece of form to focus on. Andrew Balding's four-year-old competes off only a 4lb higher rating and it would be no surprise to see him complete a double. Apiarist boosted that form when scoring at Chelmsford last week and he looks the main threat again, while Dragon Icon is another to keep an eye on.

FANTASTIC FOX very much caught the eye on his return, finishing with running left, and that effort should put him spot on for today. The shrewd new ownership of Symbol of Light will have had this race earmarked for a while, so he's respected along with the consistent Storm Star who has two wins at this track already.

The vote goes to DRAGON ICON, beaten a neck by Apiarist on his return from 197 days off here last month. He is now 8lb better off.

CLOUD COVER is a previous C&D winner who struck in Listed company at Deauville last month and she returns to the handicap ranks. James Tate's five-year-old could be up to defying a career-high mark before potentially going back up in class. Moonspirit was victorious in good style at Southwell on her penultimate start and a reproduction of that level of form would give her every chance. Of the remainder, Glorious Angel makes the most appeal with Tom Marquand booked.

CLOUD COVER has won and finished an unlucky third in two listed events of late and that form reads well on her return to handicap company. She gets the vote in a wide-open contest, with Red Maids taken to bounce back after a forgivable below-par effort last time and Ghaihban expected to appreciate the drop in trip to 7f.

Back down in distance on only her second handicap attempt, GHAIHABAN could well reverse Southwell placings with Moonspirit.

So Darn Hot failed to justify short odds when beaten a neck into second behind Yes I'm Mali over 5f here in November, but the 1lb pull, along with the extra furlong, may help him to overturn that form. Even so, CYCLONITE gets the nod. James Ferguson's three-year-old made his last juvenile start a winning one at Kempton and is only 6lb higher. With a previous course-and-distance victory aiding his cause, he has lots in his favour to go in again. Marchogion warrants a market check on his handicap bow.

BROSAY has resumed from a break for new connections in top form, scoring over the minimum at Southwell at the end of December prior to going close back up to 6f at Lingfield last week. He should go very close indeed turned out again before his new mark (due to go up 2 lb) kicks in. So Darn Hot shaped as though returning to this trip would be in his favour when touched off by the re-opposing Yes I'm Mali here last time and he is feared most ahead of another promising type in Motawahij.

The vote goes to MARCHOGION, ahead of fellow handicap debutant Motawahij. Most of the others have good claims.

THE CALTONIAN looked better than ever when scything his way through the field to score over C&D 16 days ago. The second that day subsequently went close at Chelmsford and a 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent Linda Perratt's charge from following up. Coachello capitalised on a tumbling mark at Wolverhampton last month and he's feared most, ahead of the hat-trick seeking Misty Grey.

An ultra-competitive sprint with any number to consider but the vote goes to MARSHMAN, who boasts an excellent record when fresh and has had a breathing operation ahead of his handicap/all-weather debut. Heathcliff has won 4 of his last 6 outings and having been freshened up since his most recent success, he's put forward as the main threat. King's Lynn and recent wide-margin C&D winner Cajetan are another couple worth mentioning, too.

On the back of an emphatic and very solid C&D win, CAJETAN (nap) holds a particularly strong chance. Heathcliff is feared most.

Midnight Lion is chasing a fourth consecutive victory over C&D and the five-year-old is effectively only 3lb higher than his triumph here six days ago if taking Amie Waugh's 3lb claim into consideration. However, this rise into class 2 company does demand more from the son of Nathaniel and handicap debutant NORTHERN RULER may prove to be the better handicapped of the pair. Karl Burke's colt had little difficulty in opening his account on his stable bow at this track recently and there should be more to come. Dark Moon Rising is also noted.

A competitive handicap but OLD HARROVIAN signalled he is ready to go in again when an excellent recent Southwell second and gets the vote, ahead of in-form pair Dream Harder and Northern Ruler.

Unexposed NORTHERN RULER is taken to defy a 5lb penalty and follow up his reappearance win. Dark Moon Rising is second pick.

Recent C&D winner Dreams Adozen merits respect raised just 3lb in the handicap, but ROARING LEGEND could be the answer. The son of Roaring Lion hadn't been seen on the Flat since winning at Pontefract in September 2023, but it was worth the wait as he bolted up over 1m6f at Wolverhampton earlier this month. A 10lb rise will ask sterner questions of him, as will the step up in trip, but he's not fully exposed in this sphere and could have more to offer. Cello heads the remainder.

COOL PARTY scored three times in 2024 and looks the way to go here on the back of a very good Kempton fourth last time out. Roaring Legend made a winning start for Hugo Palmer at Wolverhampton recently and is next on the list, although Arqoob, Cello and Dreams Adozen can all have a say too in this open contest.

Preference is for ROARING LEGEND, who scored in great style on his debut for Hugo Palmer. Cello is second choice.

Unexposed four-year-old BRAZILIAN ROSE recorded her second C&D success on the bounce last Saturday and, given the manner in which she won that day, the 5lb penalty she must shoulder is unlikely to halt further progress. Hiatus bumped into an in-form rival at Southwell recently and should go close from an unchanged rating, while Strong Power continues to edge down the weights and isn't one to underestimate following a creditable third at Wolverhampton three weeks ago.

BRAZILIAN ROSE's form is on an upward curve so Rebecca Menzies' low-mileage 4-y-o is fancied to defy a 5 lb penalty and complete a C&D hat-trick. Hiatus figures on a handy-looking mark and heads the list of dangers, with Novak, Strong Power and Profit Street all worthy of consideration too.

Hat-trick seeker Brazilian Rose holds obvious claims but a solid alternative is HIATUS, whose latest effort has substance.
Ths is the racecard key.
