1st (5) (7/4 +50%)King Chaos |
7/4(+50%) | (5) King Chaos 7/4, Bit below best, race not run to suit when fourth beaten 4l in a handicap at Southwell latest; suited by 10-12f, acts on GS, GF and AW; can go well again. 0-16 in handicaps but better than result at Southwell latest; capable of another big run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (2/1 -23%)Cardinal Point |
2/1(-23%) | (4) Cardinal Point 2/1, Won by a short head off a 6lb lower mark at Chelmsford in October and ran to form when second last time off the same mark. Suited by 12-16f and acts on AW; consistent since returning to this surface in autumn. Runner-up for third time on the trot at Chelmsford last week; should be involved again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (25/1 -56%)Clansman |
25/1(-56%) | (2) Clansman 25/1, Too keen and not clear run when finishing down the field in a Hamilton handicap last time. Effective from 10f to 14f and handles heavy, good to soft, and all-weather ground, though he has regressed. 0-6 on AW; well treated on old form but probably opposable after 208 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (4/1 +11%)Royal Blaze |
4/1(+11%) | (7) Royal Blaze 4/1, Ran to form when 4 1/4l third in a handicap here most recent run; trainer in form; wants 10-12f nowadays, acts on G and AW; competitively handicapped. Arrives in form with two good placed efforts over C&D; should be on the premises again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (15/2 -7%)Annandale |
15/2(-7%) | (8) Annandale 15/2, Took a step back in the right direction when fourth, beaten 5l in a handicap here last time. Ridden by a top course jockey. Effective 10-14f and acts on AW; mark falling but not yet back to best. Signs of emerging from a lull when fourth over C&D 11 days ago; might be the answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -211%)Bunker Bay |
28/1(-211%) | (3) Bunker Bay 28/1, Ran to form back over hurdles, flattening out late after racing freely when beaten 3l off an 18lb higher mark at Musselburgh last time. Cheekpieces on for the first time. Effective 10-14f and acts on AW; capable of going well. Good second at Wolverhampton in September; third over hurdles last month; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (25/1 -39%)Brunello Breeze |
25/1(-39%) | (6) Brunello Breeze 25/1, Finished down the field from off the pace in a Hamilton handicap on latest outing. Usually held up and returns from a break. Effective 10-12f and acts on AW; needs to bounce back. Unreliable these days but goes well here and can't be discounted after five months off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (28/1 +0%)Shifter |
28/1(+0%) | (9) Shifter 28/1, Beaten 7l when showing little from off the pace in a handicap here last time. Usually held up. Effective 8-10f and acts on AW; plenty to prove after several poor runs following an absence. Little promise of late but her mark is falling and this step back up in trip should suit. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

CARDINAL POINT invariably has the weight of market expectations behind her and has been costly to follow, but she usually gives her running. She bumped into a gelding unexposed as a stayer at Chelmsford last week and can reward those who keep the faith, with the drop from 1m6f not expected to be an issue. Royal Blaze was a place ahead of Annandale when third over C&D just after Christmas, although King Chaos could be the bigger threat.

Preference is for ANNANDALE who shaped nicely when fourth here last time and can turn the tables on third-placed Royal Blaze.

1st (3) (5/1 +29%)Level Look |
5/1(+29%) | (3) Level Look 5/1, Improved from debut and shaped as if further will suit when fourth, beaten 8 1/2l in a novice at Lingfield last time. Shows a good attitude and more to come now stepped up in trip. Better effort last month when fourth at Lingfield; open to further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/13 +23%)Asia Force |
8/13(+23%) | (1) Asia Force 8/13, Frankel colt whose dam was a smart Listed winner over 10f. Trained by a top yard in form and capable of readying newcomers, so this one should go well on debut. Well-bred son of Frankel, representing a leading stable; very interesting on paper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/2 -43%)New Bay Star |
5/2(-43%) | (4) New Bay Star 5/2, Sweated but produced a good effort from the front on first start since being gelded when second, beaten 1 1/4l in a novice at Chelmsford last time. Typical of the yard and open to further progress tried in cheekpieces. Improved when second over this trip at Chelmsford last month; sets the standard on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (50/1 -127%)Choir Boy |
50/1(-127%) | (2) Choir Boy 50/1, Outpaced when beaten 8l in a novice here last time; wants middle distances and is crying out for a step up in trip. Twice-raced; improvement required but at least this step up in distance should suit. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

New Bay Star sets the standard with an official rating of 74 and got closest to an odds-on favourite on his first appearance as a gelding at Chelmsford. Level Look showed a lot more at Lingfield, while ex-Ballydoyle colt Choir Boy can build on his effort over 7f here, but a chance is taken on ASIA FORCE. The son of Frankel is out of a mare who claimed Listed honours over this trip on the all-weather and Karl Burke has spotted a decent first opportunity for him.

Asia Force has an appealing pedigree but NEW BAY STAR has the best form and is the one to beat.

1st (4) (6/4 +57%)Trust No One |
6/4(+57%) | (4) Trust No One 6/4, Ran to handicap form back to 1m beaten 1 1/4l off a 2lb higher mark at Wolverhampton last time; suited by 8f, acts on AW; on a fair mark. Close fifth at Wolverhampton last time; today's longer trip an unknown but not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/4 -57%)Onyeisi |
11/4(-57%) | (1) Onyeisi 11/4, Scored by a head off a 3lb lower mark at Chelmsford two runs ago and ran to form when third last time off the same mark. Effective from 6f to 10f and acts on the all-weather. Has improved for blinkers and should go well again. Followed Chelmsford win with Wolverhampton third; form has substance; should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 +14%)Sunday Sinatra |
6/1(+14%) | (5) Sunday Sinatra 6/1, Showed nothing off a break when finishing down the field in a novice at Wolverhampton last time. Yet to show any ability and difficult to make a case for here. Beat just two rivals in four 2yo runs; needs marked improvement for this much longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (6/1 -9%)Family Values |
6/1(-9%) | (6) Family Values 6/1, Too far back, finished best over longer trip tried in blinkers when beaten 2l off this mark at Wolverhampton last time; trainer in form; effective at 9f on AW; more to come upped in trip. Kept on well when fourth at Wolverhampton, suggesting she'll stay this far; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (16/1 -45%)Petes Diamond |
16/1(-45%) | (2) Petes Diamond 16/1, Made a poor handicap debut when tried in a visor and was comfortably held in a Southwell handicap last time. Probably better over 7f and acts on the all-weather. Game but quite small and limited. Beaten at least 8l all four starts (5f-7f); stamina to prove over this much longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (13/2 +0%)Riddikulus |
13/2(+0%) | (3) Riddikulus 13/2, Outpaced but much better effort down in trip beaten 7l in a maiden here last time; effective 6f, bred for at least 8f, acts on AW; probably more to come. Modest at best in three 2yo runs but this significant step up in distance promises to suit. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

ONYEISI was gelded after breaking his duck at Chelmsford and maintained the same level of form when third at Wolverhampton, finishing just behind a subsequent winner. Returning to 1m2f is in his favour and he is the logical pick. Trust No One wasn't beaten far on his first start for Lemos De Souza, while Family Values took a step in the right direction when fourth on her handicap debut. Petes Diamond rises markedly in distance but isn't necessarily expected to get it.

Riddikulus is a possible big improver but more obvious form claims are held by the only previous winner in the field, ONYEISI.

1st (1) (4/9 +0%)Alba Gu Brath |
4/9(+0%) | (1) Alba Gu Brath 4/9, Just nudged out once the winner shot clear when second, beaten 8 1/2l in a novice here last time. Effective over 8f and may get further; a big, honest type who should find a race soon, and this looks a good opening. Beaten at odds-on over C&D last time but worth another chance to build on debut run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (14/1 -133%)Five Cay |
14/1(-133%) | (2) Five Cay 14/1, Outpaced down in trip from a wide draw when well beaten in a novice at Wolverhampton last time, having been in good form before. Effective at 6/7f on the all-weather and likely to benefit from a return to further. Run off his feet over 5f last time but open to progress now stepping up in distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/4 +36%)Viking Glory |
9/4(+36%) | (3) Viking Glory 9/4, Paid late for trying to live with the first two when beaten 10l in a novice here last time. In good form beforehand; wears a tongue-tie for the first time. Effective at 6/7f on the all-weather but needs more to win this. Made frame first two starts and had possible excuse last time; real chance if staying trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (100/1 -150%)Red House |
100/1(-150%) | (4) Red House 100/1, Outpaced and looked in need of a much longer trip when well beaten in a novice here on debut. A big, strong, workmanlike sort who appears to be a staying prospect. Weak in market and tailed off over C&D last month, finishing well behind Alba Gu Brath. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (125/1 -150%)Freezing Havana |
125/1(-150%) | (5) Freezing Havana 125/1, Missed the break badly through inexperience and had no chance afterwards when well beaten in a novice here on debut. Speedily bred and can only improve, but likely to fare better in handicaps. Green when last of ten on debut here 11 days ago; may improve good deal for the experience. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ALBA GU BRATH finished second to a couple of highly promising types on his previous starts and may be able to put the experience to good use to get off the mark at the third time of asking. With a mark of 71, Viking Glory sets the standard according to the official ratings, while Five Cay's figure of 68 probably isn't intimidating for connections of the selection either based on what they have all shown so far.

Beaten at odds-on last time, ALBA GU BRATH is worth another chance to confirm his debut promise. Viking Glory is second choice.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (13/8 +35%)Great Mates |
13/8(+35%) | (3) Great Mates 13/8, Bit keen but ran to best, scored with bit to spare when winning a novice at Wolverhampton by 1 1/4l last time; top course jockey; effective 8/9f, acts on G and AW; consistent and can go well again. Lightly raced 4yo who won Wolverhampton novice last time; unexposed; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +38%)Donna Nook |
5/1(+38%) | (4) Donna Nook 5/1, Below form when beaten 10l in a handicap here last time; effective from 8f to 10f and consistent until that latest run. 0-9 for this yard and beat only one home on New Year's Day; needs to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/2 +10%)Electric Avenue |
9/2(+10%) | (6) Electric Avenue 9/2, Scored by a length off a 5lb lower mark here three starts back; too keen and didn't get home when fifth last time but runs off the same mark; effective at 7f to 8f and holds a good chance off this mark. Two wins in autumn; fifth at Wolverhampton latest and better off with winner; big chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (6/1 -118%)Enola Grey |
6/1(-118%) | (2) Enola Grey 6/1, Improved, strong at finish when landing a handicap by 2l off a 6lb lower mark at Wolverhampton last time; usually held up; suited by 7/8f, acts on a sound surface but most of form on AW; step back up in trip fine and has more to offer. Came from last to first at Wolverhampton last month; up 6lb but has to be respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (11/1 -38%)Soho Square |
11/1(-38%) | (5) Soho Square 11/1, Below form when well beaten in a handicap here latest; off a short-break; effective at 7f, most effective on AW; bounce back needed. Hasn't built on encouraging stable debut; hopes are pinned on visor having positive effect. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Electric Avenue (faded to fifth) helped tee things up nicely for ENOLA GREY when they clashed at Wolverhampton last month and it would be surprising if the latter cannot cement her authority, despite a 6lb rise for that comfortable success. Fellow last-time-out winner Great Mates could be a big danger after cosily breaking through at the same venue in a novice event. A rating of 76 looks workable for her handicap debut.

Great Mates is unexposed but preferred is course specialist ELECTRIC AVENUE (nap) who can make it win number four at Newcastle.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 -100%)Laurens Dream |
11/2(-100%) | (6) Laurens Dream 11/2, Lacked the pace to get involved from off the rear when beaten 3 1/4l in a handicap here last time; cheekpieces on for the first time; effective at 5-7f on the all-weather; contender if returning to best form. Dual course winner as a 2yo; drops into a 0-50 for the first time; cheekpieces on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (9/2 +25%)Rory |
9/2(+25%) | (9) Rory 9/2, Finished well and could have been closer when beaten 3l in a handicap at Southwell last time; has a top course jockey booked; suited by 6/7f on the all-weather; needs to find a bit more to win. Drops into a 0-50 for the first time, but not easy to predict and losing run is up to 26. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (18/1 +10%)Esque Elegance |
18/1(+10%) | (4) Esque Elegance 18/1, Again ran to a moderate level when beaten 5 1/4l in a handicap here last time; effective at 7/8f on the all-weather; poor maiden overall. 0-14 and modest in two starts for this yard; down the pecking order. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (3/1 +67%)Bossy Parker |
3/1(+67%) | (1) Bossy Parker 3/1, Again below form when beaten 4l in a handicap at Southwell last time; drawn wide; effective at 6/7f, all recent form on the all-weather, but also handled heavy and good ground in Ireland; needs more to figure. Losing run up to 21; drops to this level for the first time but still has a bit to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/2 -29%)Elettaria |
9/2(-29%) | (3) Elettaria 9/2, Ran to form when a length third in a handicap here on her most recent start; suited by 7f and a sound surface; remains on a competitive mark. Won a couple of similar contests over C&D last year and third in a 0-60 handicap last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (13/2 -8%)The Gay Blade |
13/2(-8%) | (11) The Gay Blade 13/2, Again below form when beaten 9 1/2l in a handicap here last time; drawn wide; effective at 6/7f on any surface; form remains in and out. One of those most suited by the race conditions but last three efforts need improving upon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (16/1 -14%)Marcello Si |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Marcello Si 16/1, Well below form when down the field in a handicap here on latest outing; had been in good form prior; effective at 7/8f on the all-weather; needs to bounce back. Three course wins in 2024, but needs to fare better than in both runs since returning. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (11/1 -57%)Evoluir |
11/1(-57%) | (5) Evoluir 11/1, Back to form when fourth, beaten 2 1/4l, in a handicap at Wolverhampton last time; usually held up; effective at 6/7f on the all-weather; solid chance on that latest effort. Has a little bit to find, but was successful the last time he raced down at this level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (50/1 -213%)Our Nicola |
50/1(-213%) | (8) Our Nicola 50/1, Failed to make any impact from off the pace when beaten 9l in a handicap here last time; drawn wide; effective at 7/8f on a sound surface; maiden with something to prove. 0-8 and well beaten on AW debut over C&D three weeks ago; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (50/1 -52%)Sogannie |
50/1(-52%) | (10) Sogannie 50/1, Below form when beaten 3 1/2l in a handicap here last time; trainer currently in form; effective at 7f on the all-weather; has been very poor since debut. 0-6 and finished behind a couple of these last time; hard to make a case for. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (40/1 -21%)Wee Nan |
40/1(-21%) | (12) Wee Nan 40/1, Produced a poor effort off a break when down the field in a handicap here most recently; this is her second run after wind surgery; probably effective at 6f on the all-weather; little worthwhile form to date. 0-5 and has beaten a total of one rival in last three starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

ELETTARIA's close third in handicap company over C&D 11 days ago suggests that she could be very hard to beat in a race of this nature. Laurens Dream is another who makes plenty of appeal at this sort of level and first-time cheekpieces may spark some improvement from her. Fifth on his last couple of starts, Bossy Parker is the pick of the remainder.

The vote goes to ELETTARIA who was 2-2 in similar events over C&D last year.

15/8(+32%) | (3) Little Mi Mi 15/8, Too keen but still improved in landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off a 5lb lower mark here last time; effective 5/6f, acts on G and AW; in fine form and may follow up. Off mark at 16th attempt over C&D on New Year's Day; should make another bold bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (11/2 +45%)Okami |
11/2(+45%) | (7) Okami 11/2, Scored by 2l off a 7lb lower mark here two runs ago; ran to form when fourth last time and remains on the same mark; wide draw; effective from 5-7f and acts on the all-weather; can go well again off this mark. C&D winner on second start for this yard; creditable fourth last time; remains of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

(2) (7/1 -17%)What What What |
7/1(-17%) | (2) What What What 7/1, Ran to form when beaten 3l off this mark at Southwell last time; effective at 5/6f and acts on the all-weather; down to a good mark. Shaped nicely when fourth at Southwell; now returns to C&D of sole win; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (17/2 -21%)Bishop's Glory |
17/2(-21%) | (8) Bishop's Glory 17/2, Scored by a length off a 2lb lower mark here in November; ran to form when third last time, same mark here; top course jockey; wide draw; suited by 6/7f, acts on a sound surface; inconsistent but respected. Ran creditably back at 5f when third at Southwell; big player off unchanged mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (9/1 +10%)Henery Hawk |
9/1(+10%) | (6) Henery Hawk 9/1, Bit below best when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap here last time; wide draw; suited by 5f and acts on the all-weather; tends to get behind and may need a strong pace. Four wins here; below par of late but had excuse last time and could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (12/1 -200%)Arlington |
12/1(-200%) | (1) Arlington 12/1, Ran to form with a good attitude when winning a handicap by a head off a 5lb lower mark at Southwell last time; trainer in form; enjoys making it; effective at 5/6f; suited by the all-weather and can go well again. Front-runner who made all at Southwell on Sunday; winner here too; should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (14/1 -100%)Auntie Jo |
14/1(-100%) | (4) Auntie Jo 14/1, Bit below best, maybe needed the run when beaten 3l off a 1lb higher mark here last time; suited by 5f, possibly stays 6f; should come on for the return. 0-13 but shaped well after break when fourth over 6f here; needs taking seriously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(9) (20/1 -67%)Desert Master |
20/1(-67%) | (9) Desert Master 20/1, Bit below best when beaten 3l in a classified race at Wolverhampton last time; suited by 5f and acts on the all-weather; has a chance on recent evidence. On 17-race losing run; second over C&D in December but then only fifth at Wolverhampton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (28/1 -40%)Invincible Annice |
28/1(-40%) | (5) Invincible Annice 28/1, Scored by 1 1/2l off a 2lb lower mark here in November; below form when eighth last time and 1lb lower now; effective at 5/6f and acts on the all-weather; has lost form of late. Won over C&D in November but no better than eighth in four runs since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Cases can be made for all of these, but preference is for AUNTIE JO. The four-year-old caught the eye when fourth over 6f here last week and the return to the minimum trip should only help her chances. Recent winners Arlington and Little Mi Mi are obvious threats to the selection, while What What What and Bishop's Glory merit each-way consideration.

In a warm race the verdict goes to WHAT WHAT WHAT whose only success came over C&D and who looked ready to strike again last time.
Ths is the racecard key.
