|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (80/1 -264%)Lightening Company |
80/1(-264%) | (5) Lightening Company 80/1, Bit keen and never in it down the field in a handicap here most recent; top course jockey; usually held up; effective 10-12f, acts on any; form in and out since returning from hurdling. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (100/1 -257%)Natzor |
100/1(-257%) | (6) Natzor 100/1, No-show from off the pace when down the field in a handicap here most recent; off a short-break; effective 10-12f, acts on any; in poor form under both codes. Dual C&D winner, but has lost his way for this yard including three poor efforts back here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BEARWITH only went up 3lb for winning over C&D last month, appearing to benefit from a drop back in trip, and a repeat of that performance may well suffice. Monty Beau has been very consistent during his career to date and another solid run is expected, while Mao Shang Wong's recent efforts give him every chance of being in the mix.

Tthe vote goes to the lightly raced and consistent 5yo MONTY BEAU, who may still be capable of better.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (100/1 -203%)Sparkling Pink |
100/1(-203%) | (8) Sparkling Pink 100/1, Never in it from off the pace beaten 7l in a nursery at Leicester last time; effective 6f on good and fast ground; has lost form. Won a Pontefract nursery last July, but held in all three subsequent starts; off 164 days. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ESPONA BAY has filled the runner-up berth in each of his three previous starts on the all-weather and has shown enough to suggest a handicap at this level is within his range. A recent switch in stables could have sweetened him up and a 2lb rise for his latest effort looks manageable. Arishka's Dream is 2lb well-in and must have every chance of exploiting that. Marra Donna and handicap newcomer Tactical Blitz are others to consider.

The choice is ARISHKA'S DREAM who has winning form at Wolverhampton and is 2lb well in following his narrow defeat on handicap debut.

(1) (1/6 +33%)Billecart |
1/6(+33%) | (1) Billecart 1/6, Promising debut in what looked a very good race when 4l fourth in a maiden at Newmarket (July); effective at 7f on good to firm; improvement likely and should be winning this. Fourth of 12 in a red-hot Newmarket maiden last July; has been found a golden opportunity. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (5/1 -11%)Wuood |
5/1(-11%) | (3) Wuood 5/1, Night Of Thunder colt; dam placed at 7f related to the likes of Diego Velazquez, Broome and Point Lonsdale; respected on debut and should show up well. Faces a useful rival in Billecart, but still interesting to see what the market says. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (28/1 -100%)Too Darn Spicy |
28/1(-100%) | (4) Too Darn Spicy 28/1, 2,000gns breeze-up purchase by Too Darn Hot; dam useful at 10f; top course trainer but looks up against it for win purposes on debut. Market should indicate what is expected on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (80/1 -21%)Shimmering Spirit |
80/1(-21%) | (2) Shimmering Spirit 80/1, Modest debut when 8 1/2l fourth in a novice here first-time out; sire sprinter, dam wanted middle-distances; may need more time and low-grade handicaps. Didn't run badly when fourth on his debut here a fortnight ago, but unlikely to win this. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BILLECART, who cost 380,000gns as a yearling, is hard to overlook. The son of Night Of Thunder was fourth behind subsequent Tattersalls Stakes winner Distant Storm on his Newmarket debut last July. Considering the runner-up in that race won the Futurity at the Curragh, while eight other winners emerged from the 12-runner field, the form could hardly be better. Wuood is an attractively-bred newcomer, while Too Darn Spicy, who was picked up for a song by shrewd connections, is related to some smart types and is more appealing than Shimmering Spirit.

The looks a golden opportunity for BILLECART who showed plenty of promise when fourth on his Newmarket debut last July.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (10/3 -78%)Doctor Khan Junior |
10/3(-78%) | (1) Doctor Khan Junior 10/3, Bit keen but good attitude, ran to best landing a handicap by 1/2l off a 3lb lower mark at Southwell last time; effective at 7f, acts on good to firm and AW; new mark asks more but he's in fine form. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Doctor Khan Junior returned to winning ways at Southwell at the end of January, but more is required after a 3lb rise from the handicapper. With that in mind, the vote goes to NIKOVO. The seven-year-old has been knocking on the door with a string of consistent efforts and this might be the time to catch him against arguably weaker opposition than he has faced of late. Eldrickjones and Talis Evolvere are others to consider.

Last year's winner NIKOVO (nap) signalled he is ready to go in again when a promising Kempton third in a race not run to suit.

DREAM FOREVER gave the impression that an extra furlong would be right up his street after improving on his juvenile form when runner-up here last month. Jedd O'Keeffe's charge appears to have more upside than the majority of his rivals and gets the vote to strike. Panthere Noir has been gelded ahead of his first run since December and that might yield improvement. Popty Ping and Mereside Princess complete the shortlist.

Archie Watson's KINGOFTHECARNIVAL brings a fair bit of potential and is taken to emerge on top now starting out in handicap company.

(4) (33/1 -32%)Pop Star |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Pop Star 33/1, Again below form beaten 3 1/4l off a 2lb higher mark here last time; usually held up; effective 5/6f, acts on any; needs more than of late. Yet to hit top form for new yard, last of nine over C&D two weeks ago; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Harb (first) and Digital (second) are closely matched based on their meeting over C&D two weeks ago and are likely to go well once again. That said, preference is for ALBEGONE, who showed much more when a neck second here and the veteran makes plenty of appeal off just 1lb higher. Water Of Leith and Our Absent Friends are others to note.

Lots with chances but LION'S HOUSE looked unlucky not to add to a recent C&D win when third at Wolverhampton and can gain compensation.

ESQUE ELEGANCE was second in this sort of company over C&D two starts ago and also hit the crossbar in a handicap when last seen. Based on that evidence, the four-year-old looks the one to beat. Woodrafff is another with strong form claims, while Wheres The Crumpet edges out Sir Maxi and Starshot to be the pick of the remainder.

Stephen Hanlon's ESQUE ELEGANCE is taken to build on her very good recent C&D second (form been franked) and gain her first win.
Ths is the racecard key.
