1st (1) (10/3 -11%)Lord Normandy |
10/3(-11%) | (1) Lord Normandy 10/3, Well below the level of his previous runner-up effort when well beaten in a 9f handicap at Wolverhampton last time; effective at 10f; bit to prove returning from nine months off for his turf debut. Lightly raced 4yo; absent since a lesser show in January and this is his turf debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (2/5 -20%)Opera Wave |
2/5(-20%) | (2) Opera Wave 2/5, Improved again when stepping up in trip to win a handicap by a nose off 65 over 11f at Southwell last time; off a short break; effective at 10–11f; progressive filly in a hood who should take all the beating. Settling her is an issue but she's improved (2nd and 1st) in handicaps on last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/1 +56%)Madeleine Moonshot |
7/1(+56%) | (3) Madeleine Moonshot 7/1, Well below her suspect maiden form when down the field on handicap debut over 12f at Kempton most recently; bred for 10–12f; now lower in the weights but hard to make a case for. Big odds for all four starts (first two for Kevin Philippart de Foy) and well beaten. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

OPERA WAVE has proved far more competitive since entering handicap company on the July course in August and she's fancied to follow up her subsequent victory at Southwell. David Simcock's filly got the better of a next-time-out winner and a 6lb higher mark looks workable. The returning Lord Normandy may have raced too close to the pace at Wolverhampton in January and is feared most, ahead of Madeleine Moonshot.

Jamie Spencer brought OPERA WAVE from last to win a steadily run race last time out and today's two rivals have done little this year.

Penalised but looked a colt going places. Third at Kempton (7f, AW) and ended up the comfortable winner at Redcar (7f, good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (5/2 +17%)Princling |
5/2(+17%) | (11) Princling 5/2, Good debut, plenty to like about how he hit the line when runner-up beaten a nose in a novice at Kempton on only start. Effective at 7f; big improvement expected switching to turf now. 11-1 from 7-1 for a novice at Kempton (7f, AW) 18 days ago but he was beaten a nose. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (4/1 -45%)Man Of Vision |
4/1(-45%) | (10) Man Of Vision 4/1, Came clear with the winner (slight drift left incidental) on a very promising debut, runner-up beaten 2l in a novice at Yarmouth on only start. From a top course trainer, tongue-tie fitted first time; should strip fitter and improve. 6-4 when 2nd of 6 at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) in May; off since and tongue-tie goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (25/1 -39%)King's Cavalry |
25/1(-39%) | (8) King's Cavalry 25/1, 31 Mar; Kingman colt; half-brother to Royal Dress, high-class at 8f; dam smart at 15f; interesting debutant. By Kingman; has a strong pedigree and market may guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (14) (9/1 -13%)The Joker |
9/1(-13%) | (14) The Joker 9/1, Ran to the balance of his form when second, beaten 1 1/4l in a maiden at Sandown last time. Off a short break; effective at 7f, not proven beyond that, acts on soft and good ground; may have more to come. Among the best form in this field but no improvement, so he could again be vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (15) (33/1 -175%)Weffaag |
33/1(-175%) | (15) Weffaag 33/1, 14 Mar; 420,000gns Havana Grey colt; half-brother to Super Sox, very smart at 7f; dam useful at 7f; top trainer has three in race. 420,000gns yearling; speedily bred but debut over 7f; does not look yard first string. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (50/1 +24%)Dartrey |
50/1(+24%) | (5) Dartrey 50/1, Showed more than on debut when something went amiss, finishing down the field in a 6f novice at Windsor last time. Off a short break; half-brother to a Group 1 winner and should appreciate 7/8f. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (7) (150/1 -500%)Keep It Classic |
150/1(-500%) | (7) Keep It Classic 150/1, 6 Jan; Too Darn Hot colt; dam high-class at 9f; top trainer has three runners in the race. By Too Darn Hot; 2nd foal; dam 1m-1m2f winner (including 2yo/Group 3/US Grade 3; RPR 108). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (9) (50/1 -257%)Luansobe |
50/1(-257%) | (9) Luansobe 50/1, Promising debut when chasing home a useful winner, runner-up beaten 2 1/2l in a maiden at Kempton on only start. Effective at 7f; nice debut and should improve on turf debut. 7-1 from 10-1, no match for odds-on winner in maiden at Kempton (7f, AW) but beat the rest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (13) (300/1 -50%)Rockafeller Skank |
300/1(-50%) | (13) Rockafeller Skank 300/1, Yet to show any real signs of ability; has speed in his pedigree but little shown so far; best watched until contesting low-grade handicaps. Trailed home a remote last at Ayr (7f, soft) and Newmarket (7f, good); tongue-tie removed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Penalised winners Moving Shadow and Yazin should have better days ahead of them and cannot be dismissed. However, shouldering a 7lb penalty may leave the pair vulnerable, with PRINCLING slightly more appealing at the weights. William Haggas' colt finished a never-nearer second on his debut at Kempton a couple of weeks ago and a switch to turf shouldn't pose any issues for the Kingman colt. Man Of Vision and The Joker are others of interest.

Moving Shadow and Yazin look promising but have 7lb penalties. Preference is therefore for PRINCLING who went close at Kempton.

10/3(+67%) | (9) Tiger Tulip 10/3, Below form when down in trip on soft, beaten 7 1/4l in a handicap at Ascot last time. Suited by 6f and acts on any surface, though generally poor on all-weather. 3rd (4) (11/2 +45%)Al Hussar |
11/2(+45%) | (4) Al Hussar 11/2, Scored by a neck off 77 at Chester three starts back. Below form on drier ground last time. Effective at 5f and acts on any going, though best with some cut. 33/1(+18%) | (11) Neyva's Angel 33/1, Never involved after a slow start when up in grade on handicap debut, beaten 6 1/2l in a Yarmouth handicap last time. Effective over 5f to 6f and acts on good to soft ground. Mark still looks stiff on limited novice form. Lightly raced filly; well held on handicap debut and needs plenty more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (12/1 +0%)Blind Beggar |
12/1(+0%) | (3) Blind Beggar 12/1, Below form when not seeing out the longer 6f trip in a Nottingham handicap most recently. In good form prior and effective over 5f to 6f, acts on any ground. Consistent until latest; blinkers replace visor. Infrequent winner on turf but two good 5f runs for new yard and conditions will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (11/1 -10%)Vince L'amour |
11/1(-10%) | (7) Vince L'amour 11/1, Scored by 1/2l off 71 at Musselburgh on his penultimate start. Below form on soft ground last time. Enjoys making the running. Suited by 5f and acts on soft and good ground. Quick turnaround needed but back on better ground. Smart York win last autumn; took advantage of reduced mark at Musselburgh; ran flat latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (14/1 -115%)Gold Star Hero |
14/1(-115%) | (2) Gold Star Hero 14/1, Ran to form when second, beaten 1 1/2l off 80 last time. Trainer is in form. Effective over 5f to 6f and acts on a sound surface. Remains capable off this mark. Made all off favourable mark at Yarmouth (5f) in September; capable of going close. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (13/2 -8%)Parisiac |
13/2(-8%) | (6) Parisiac 13/2, Bit wide but ran to form when second, beaten 1/2l off 74 last time. Effective at 5f to 6f and acts on any ground but prefers it soft. In form though tends not to do more than required. Won this in 2023; three 5f wins this year and holding his form well; likely to be involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (9/1 -29%)Thunder Star |
9/1(-29%) | (10) Thunder Star 9/1, Back to best form in reapplied blinkers when beaten 1 1/2l off 74 at Yarmouth last time. Suited by 5f and acts on soft and good to firm ground. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (16/1 -14%)Money Pockets |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Money Pockets 16/1, Scored by 3 1/4l off 64 at Redcar three starts back. Below form when switched to deep ground last time. Suited by 5f and best on a sound surface. Back on better ground but has something to prove in this grade. Wide-margin winner at Redcar (5f, good) in September; this is likely to be run to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (6/1 -71%)Hk Fourteen |
6/1(-71%) | (1) Hk Fourteen 6/1, Wide but travelled well for an improved win when landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off 74 at Bath last time. Suited by 5f and acts on soft and good to firm ground. In fine form but his new mark demands more. Six wins in the last 12 months, impressive at Bath (5f) latest; up 7lb; still improving. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The introduction of cheekpieces at Doncaster in September appears to have unlocked further improvement from within Hk Fourteen and he merits respect given his latest triumph at Bath. However, a 7lb rise does demand another career-best from the five-year-old and it could be worth chancing the down-in-class ROACH POWER. Michael Wigham's gelding only gave way late on when seventh at York earlier this month, but his previous efforts make him a leading player. Parisiac and Thunder Star are worth a second look too.

Topweight HK FOURTEEN (nap) looked better the further he went at Bath recently and he gets the vote ahead of 2023 winner Parisiac.

15/2(+58%) | (2) Azleet 15/2, Back to form when dropped in grade and finished fourth, beaten 3l, in the Rockingham Stakes (Listed) at York last time. Effective at 6f and a tough filly, a winner on the other Newmarket course. Fourth in Listed race at York but needs more progress to make an impact in this deep race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (16) (4/1 +64%)Splish Splash |
4/1(+64%) | (16) Splish Splash 4/1, Dominated to win a maiden at Haydock by 5 1/2l last time. Effective at 6/7f on good ground; open to further progress but needs to improve in this company. Found lots of improvement with her emphatic win at Haydock; respected upped in class. |

16/1(+20%) | (4) Brisk Symphony 16/1, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 3l, in a 7f nursery at Doncaster last time. Returns from a short break; the drop back to 6f should suit and not ruled out up in grade. Two wins from four starts but she has plenty to find in this Listed race; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (80/1 -142%)Anaisa |
80/1(-142%) | (1) Anaisa 80/1, Below form on soft when finishing down the field in the Firth Of Clyde (Group 3) at Ayr last time. Suited by 6f and a sound surface, though the form of her Listed win does not look the strongest. Won Listed race at Ripon but that looked weak form for the grade and she's struggled since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (33/1 -136%)Palmeira |
33/1(-136%) | (12) Palmeira 33/1, Too keen and never involved when beaten 6l in the Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3) over 5f here last time. Had been in good form before; may appreciate this longer trip. 0-8 but she went close in a Listed race in August and that form puts her in the picture. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (18) (7/1 +56%)Thaluna |
7/1(+56%) | (18) Thaluna 7/1, Confirmed debut promise when winning a novice at York by a length last time. Trainer in form and open to improvement but faces a tougher task now up in grade. Won at York three weeks ago and she's bred to be smart; respected upped in class. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (18/1 +18%)Chicory |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (20) (100/1 -203%)Vishaka |
100/1(-203%) | (20) Vishaka 100/1, Similar level to debut when comfortably held in the Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (Group 3) at Salisbury last time. A big filly with more to offer, and the drier ground may help. Won on Nottingham debut but she struggled in a Group 3 last month; best watched. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

An open contest in which preference is afforded to SPICY MARG. Having been outclassed in the Nunthorpe, she was then far more competitive in the Cornwallis three weeks ago. Michael Bell's filly appeared to lack the pace of some, though, and perhaps a step up to 6f will have the desired effect. Golden Palace was far from disgraced in the Cheveley Park so must be of interest with her sights lowered, along with Elara May, who has progressed through the handicaps ranks this term. Fairy Oak is also noted.

Top of the list is Michael Bell's SPICY MARG who sets the standard on her strong-finishing fourth in a Group 3 here last time.

1st (1) (8/13 +8%)Castle Rock |
8/13(+8%) | (1) Castle Rock 8/13, Made all and improved on debut when winning a maiden here over 7f by a neck last time. From a top course trainer, effective at 7f and acts on good ground. Looked impressive latest and should be hard to beat under a penalty, now down in trip. 4-9, won five-runner maiden here (7f, good) by a neck; 7lb penalty; 7lb claimer enlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (6/4 +20%)Hallo Spaceboy |
6/4(+20%) | (3) Hallo Spaceboy 6/4, Showed promise on debut, finishing third and beaten 3l in an ordinary novice at York. Effective at 6f and acts on good ground. Should improve on that encouraging first run. 9-2 at York (6f, good) and travelled best long way before fading into third of eight. |

66/1(-65%) | (6) Antiquarian 66/1, 30 Apr; 1,000gns Advertise filly; half-sister to Eglish, useful from 5f to 7f; dam useful at 7f at 2yo. 1,000gns foal by Advertise; 40-1 when withdrawn from a 6.5f Newbury maiden one week ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Although there is plenty to like about the chances of recent course winner Castle Rock, especially given that Toby Moore's claim negates the penalty, it could pay to side with HALLO SPACEBOY. Ed Walker's colt travelled ominously into contention on his debut at York three weeks ago, but was not given a hard time of things once success was out of the question. The son of Starman should be wiser and he can score at the second attempt. Smiley Face heads the remainder.

This looks between HALLO SPACEBOY and Castle Rock, with the former having made an eyecatching debut and the latter penalised 7lb.

KOKANEE showed definite signs of a return to form when fourth at Pontefract earlier in the month. Beaten only a length, the son of Kameko would have finished closer with a clear run and this return to a faster surface will also help his cause. Post Rider is not badly treated and reverts to a mile with solid claims, while Ribenska drops in class for her second start on turf and could be in the thick of it.

This looks very tricky but KOKANEE looks as if he will be seriously involved following his close fourth at Pontefract.

The rejuvenated MC'TED is unbeaten since joining Martin Dunne's yard. The seven-year-old landed a hat-trick with last week's success at Wolverhampton and looks capable of adding to his tally, given he's due to be raised by more than this 4lb penalty in the future. Huggable has been in fine form over 1m2f, including a second on the July course, and she can have a say in proceedings, along with Hibernate.

The best options for win purposes might be MC'TED, Huggable and Hibernate, in that order.
Ths is the racecard key.
