||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (50/1 -52%)Poet's Muse |
50/1(-52%) | (11) Poet's Muse 50/1, Again ran to a moderate level when fourth beaten 46l in a maiden hurdle at Chepstow latest; effective at 3m in points; type to do better when handicapping. Her point win is nothing to shout about and she's been tailed off in both hurdle runs. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Although unable to justify favouritism when finishing third at Doncaster, HARDLY SURPRISING still ran to a decent level. An official rating of 117 suggests that the five-year-old is more than capable of picking up a maiden hurdle and he edges the vote over Dutch Corner. Dan Skelton's gelding arrives on the back of a good second at Exeter and he's likely to be in the thick of the action once more, along with Limier D'arthel.

Owner JP McManus has a strong hand with Limier D'Arthel and HARDLY SURPRISING, with slight preference for the latter.

5/1(-82%) | (7) Jack Doyen 5/1, Travelled, returned to form at favoured and repeated 2024 success in a handicap by 3l off a 6lb lower mark at Hereford last time; effective 2m4f-2m7f, acts on any; back in form and can go well again. Wins have all come in late March; remains fairly treated now back in form; considered. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (13/2 +41%)Ideallko |
13/2(+41%) | (3) Ideallko 13/2, Not find much up the hill after series of errors when fourth beaten 49l in a handicap chase at Sedgefield latest; off a short-break; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on soft and good; below par this term. 15/2(+63%) | (2) Jack's A Legend 15/2, Ran to form on hunter chase debut albeit beaten 29l in third in a hunter chase here most recent run; effective 2m-2m5f on heavy and good; chance although could need this. Better off into ordinary handicap company for his new yard; may need this at his age. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (14/1 +58%)Firefly Lane |
14/1(+58%) | (8) Firefly Lane 14/1, Needed run when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Warwick last time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on sound surface but suited by cut; out of form. Beaten long way from 10lb out of the handicap latest; similarly tough task from 9lb wrong. |

4/1(+80%) | (4) Tractor Jack 4/1, Again ran to a modest level down the field in a handicap hurdle at Wincanton most recent; hopes pinned on switch to fences. Only seen sporadically over hurdles; needs a deal more on today's chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

After victories at Taunton and Leicester, Palawan Du Mazet arrives at the top of his game. Although a 3lb higher mark for his latest triumph isn't excessive, he does need to prove himself on a quicker surface. With that in mind, it might be worth taking a punt on stable debutant JACK'S A LEGEND, who wasn't disgraced when finishing behind two superior rivals in a hunter chase over C&D when last sighted. Jack Doyen and Begin The Luck are others to note.

Begin The Luck is second choice behind PALAWAN DU MAZET, who's clicked since switched to fences and gets the vote.

1st (5) (11/4 -57%)Reel Orange |
11/4(-57%) | (5) Reel Orange 11/4, Below form back up in trip when fourth beaten 26l in a handicap hurdle at Hereford latest; effective 2m-2m2f, best with cut; inconsistent maiden. 11-race maiden but has claims on her second at Exeter two runs back; cheekpieces added. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (17/2 -155%)Northern Air |
17/2(-155%) | (1) Northern Air 17/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Warwick latest; off a short-break; effective 2m, acts on soft and good to soft; happier back hurdling. Disappointing in three chase runs for Dan Skelton and he needs major revival for new yard. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/1 -25%)Getarose |
10/1(-25%) | (7) Getarose 10/1, Outpaced, never threatened, wanted stiffer test when fourth beaten 27l in a handicap hurdle at Hereford latest; effective 2m4f, acts on heavy and good; mark continues to ease. Seven-race maiden who has not finished closer than 13l to a winner; down the list. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/2 +36%)Green Sky |
7/2(+36%) | (2) Green Sky 7/2, Below form beaten 8 1/4l in a handicap at Southwell last time; effective 2m on a sound surface; not ruled out if at best back hurdling. 0-12 over hurdles but she's well treated on best form in this sphere; needs a close look. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (7/2 +56%)Parikarma |
7/2(+56%) | (3) Parikarma 7/2, Never in it from off the pace when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Taunton latest; effective 2m-2m4f heavy and good; competitive mark if bouncing back. C&D winner and she's a player if she can bounce back from a disappointing run at Taunton. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (9/1 +25%)Eskimo Sam |
9/1(+25%) | (6) Eskimo Sam 9/1, Keen, travelled, not find much after bad errors when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Exeter last time; effective 2m; should come on for latest, unexposed in handicaps. Unexposed 7yo but she needs improvement on this drop back in trip; hood reapplied. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (13/2 +7%)Jackeline |
13/2(+7%) | (4) Jackeline 13/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Leicester latest; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on soft (not heavy) and good; consistent hurdler, yet to take to chasing so return to smaller obstacles might help. Pulled up in last two chases but reverts to hurdling on a dangerous mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

REEL ORANGE disappointed in fourth at Hereford, but she should take some stopping if putting it all together. The seven-year-old had previously posted an encouraging second-placed stable bow at Exeter and a repeat may prove sufficient. Reopposing fifth Eskimo Sam was too keen on that belated return to action and the reintroduction of a hood could see her involved. Getarose may fare best of the rest.

This looks tricky but it might be siding with JACKELINE who is well treated if she can turn things around back over hurdles.

C&D winner who bounced back with a fair third at Newbury latest; each-way claims. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 +55%)Royal Jewel |
9/2(+55%) | (3) Royal Jewel 9/2, Ran to form when third beaten 3l off 131 last time, same mark here; effective 2m-2m7f, suited by cut but acts on good; drop in trip might suit. C&D winner who scored at Taunton in February and was a good third there latest; respected. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (13/8 +64%)Bumpy Evans |
13/8(+64%) | (6) Bumpy Evans 13/8, Slightly below form up in class when beaten 2l off a 4lb lower mark at Sedgefield last time; enjoys making it; hugely progressive at 2m3f-3m, acts on good to soft and good; can go well if ready for this return. Ended last year with a win but he's 7lb higher here and this is highly competitive. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/1 -11%)Hardy Du Seuil |
10/1(-11%) | (4) Hardy Du Seuil 10/1, Ran to form beaten 3l off a 2lb lower mark at Newbury last time; effective 2m, acts on soft and good; generally in fair form, mark reasonable. Has done well on belated return to fences including a near-miss at Carlisle; shortlisted. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (7/1 +30%)Tahmuras |
7/1(+30%) | (2) Tahmuras 7/1, Returned to form in first-time blinkers beaten 3l off a 2lb lower mark at Windsor last time; off a short-break; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on heavy and good to soft; fair mark if building on latest but not one to rely on. Turned things around with a second at Windsor and has claims if he can back that up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Plenty can be given a chance, including last year's winner Scarface. He bids to repeat off a 2lb higher mark, while Tahmuras bounced back with a respectable second at Windsor and is potentially well handicapped. However, CALIMYSTIC remains unexposed over fences having won both starts over the larger obstacles so far. Nicky Henderson's charge scored a shade cosily at Sandown and a 6lb rise may not be enough to halt his good progress.

It's hard to rule out any of these but the most striking option is CALIMYSTIC who made it 2-2 over fences when scoring at Sandown.

Runner-up at Market Rasen (2m7f) last time and he's still unexposed as a stayer; dangerous. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2/1 +33%)Call Me Legend |
2/1(+33%) | (1) Call Me Legend 2/1, Travelled, caught late, ran to form down in class when runner-up at Exeter latest; cheekpieces first time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on heavy and good; in form, may have more to offer as a stayer. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (28/1 -27%)Sam's Amour |
28/1(-27%) | (5) Sam's Amour 28/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Wincanton latest; usually held up; off a short-break; effective 2m-3m2f on a sound surface; form has tailed off recently but might be happier back hurdling. Triple hurdle winner who has form over C&D but she needs a big turnaround after a break. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (11/4 -10%)Crossgales King |
11/4(-10%) | (4) Crossgales King 11/4, Ran to best back on better ground to get off the mark, strong at finish when landing a handicap by 2 1/2l off a 5lb lower mark at Wincanton last time; effective 2m3f-3m, acts on heavy and good to soft; more to come and step up in trip a plus. 6yo who won at Wincanton (3m1f) last month and he's open to more progress; key player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The consistent Call Me Legend cannot be ruled out with any confidence in this grade, while Top Guy is less reliable but finished a solid second at Market Rasen and has a shout on that form. CROSSGALES KING arrives in fine fettle having scored over the extended 3m trip at Wincanton last month. He gave the strong impression this extra yardage will suit and Syd Hosie's six-year-old looks worth sticking with.

Top of the list is CROSSGALES KING (nap) who justified favouritism at Wincanton last month and is open to more progress as a stayer.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FRENATI has the form in the book, having just prevailed at Stratford last month. There should be more to come from the daughter of Nathaniel and she is taken to defy a penalty. Enya has placed in both starts to date and is likely to improve further on her second appearance after wind surgery, while Wincanton third Guste's Dance could also shape well. Numero Ventotto is out of a bumper winner and is worth a second look.

Guste's Dance sets a fair standard but slight preference is for Nicky Henderson'a striking newcomer NUMERO VENTOTTO.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
