40/1(-627%) | (4) Gaelic Approach 40/1, Improved when second, beaten 5l in a novice at Ayr on testing ground; effective at 8f, acts on heavy; middle-distance bred but could have been flattered by the small field. 5l second of four at Ayr on second start and could continue to progress; one to consider. |

14/1(+22%) | (5) Gypsy Beat 14/1, Green and showed little when well beaten in a maiden over 7f at Chepstow on only start; off a short break; bred to want 10f or more and can surely do better than that debut. Too green to do himself justice on debut but in top hands and could take big step forward. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

GAELIC APPROACH wasn't expected to beat a 2/7 favourite at Ayr a fortnight ago, but gave a good account in second on heavy ground. The forecast going here could be a source of improvement for the son of Masar, who is forwarded as a strong contender. The betting should be informative and any support for the the likes of Charlotte Corday and Oratorical would need to be taken seriously. Pure Moon is an interesting newcomer to also keep an eye on.

This could go to the once-raced BRIDGE OF EAGLES, who is from a family his connections have done well with.

Encouraging fourth on recent nursery debut and may be able to build on that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (4/1 -14%)Up The Agenda |
4/1(-14%) | (4) Up The Agenda 4/1, Liked slower ground, showing a good attitude on first run after gelding operation to land a handicap by a neck off 66 over 7f at Yarmouth last time; cheekpieces first time; effective at 7f, acts on good to soft and good to firm; could be more to come in added cheekpieces. Favourite when winning on nursery debut at Yarmouth and he's up just 2lb; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (3) (12/1 -33%)Runamara |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

STARTLED has shown promise in three starts on the all-weather since being gelded and reverts to turf with solid claims from a workable rating. Forced to race wide throughout at Lingfield on his latest start, that effort can be upgraded and Billy Loughnane takes over in the saddle. Yarmouth winner Up The Agenda also rates a serious player with cheekpieces added, while Mad Unicorn and Madman are others with appealing profiles to consider.

Having endured a wide trip at Lingfield last month, STARTLED did well to cling on for a close fourth and can get off the mark today.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (7/1 +61%)Hiatus |
7/1(+61%) | (3) Hiatus 7/1, Never going the pace when beaten 8l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. Suited by 6f, likes some give on turf and drops back down in grade. Two low-key runs back from a break but he goes well on soft ground and could revive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (16/1 +0%)Albert Cee |
16/1(+0%) | (9) Albert Cee 16/1, Again below form when beaten 5 1/4l in a handicap at Leicester last time. Effective at 6-7f and acts on good to soft ground. Largely regressive on recent evidence. Dropped a long way in the weights & latest run more encouraging; others still appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (12/1 -33%)Kalik |
12/1(-33%) | (4) Kalik 12/1, Below form when beaten 9l in a handicap at Newmarket (July) last time. Off a short break. 13/2(+68%) | (17) I Need Your Love 13/2, No headgear and quickly beaten off when down the field in a Pontefract handicap most recently. In good form prior. 15/2(+46%) | (13) Annie Edson Taylor 15/2, Scored by 1 1/4l off 61 at Hamilton three starts back. Below best back on drier ground when sixth last time. Effective at 5-6f, acts on good ground and goes well with cut; return to soft should help. Running well since fitted with blinkers but she will need more progress to defy this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (4/1 +50%)Bay Breeze |
4/1(+50%) | (7) Bay Breeze 4/1, Won this race last year. Produced best run since the spring in first-time blinkers when beaten 1 1/4l off 69 at Hamilton last time. Suited by 6f and acts on any going but prefers some give. Chance if blinkers work again. Won this race last year off 1lb lower; good second at Hamilton last month; contender. |

12th (6) (25/1 -25%)Ann Terry |
25/1(-25%) | (6) Ann Terry 25/1, Never involved when down in trip on all-weather debut, beaten 9l in a 5f handicap at Newcastle last time. Blinkers first time and returning from a break. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BAY BREEZE seemed revitalised by the first-time blinkers when second at Hamilton and could be worth chancing in his bid for back-to-back wins in this race off just 1lb higher than when successful last year. Bill Plumb is an obvious threat under a 5lb penalty after last week's strike at Yarmouth. With first-time cheekpieces complementing a tongue-tie, he could find even more. Willolarupi and Ziggy's Queen are others with claims.

Conditions should be ideal for TIRIAC (nap) and he can confirm the promise of his penultimate run. Count D'Orsay is feared most.

5/1(+50%) | (3) Trojan Sun 5/1, Showed a good attitude when landing a 2m Musselburgh handicap by a neck off 67, having had the run of the race; stays well, acts on any ground, consistent, but unlikely to dictate this time. Won under Lauren Young at Musselburgh last Monday and respected under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (14/1 -27%)Young Merlin |
14/1(-27%) | (9) Young Merlin 14/1, Unable to get into it off a steady pace when beaten 8 1/4l in a 1m7f Ayr handicap last time; stays 2m+ and is best with some cut; a stiffer test may help. Encouraging stable debut in July but hasn't threatened on his two starts since. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

9/1(-13%) | (2) Calvert 9/1, Didn't stay when ridden from the front, finishing fourth and beaten 7l in a 2m handicap at Ascot latest; suited by 14f and acts on any going, but has a bit to prove over this far. Runner-up twice in a row in first half of summer but only fourth on last three outings. |

5th (4) (16/1 +0%)Ruler Legend |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (10/3 +17%)Both Of Us |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (150/1 -200%)Majestic Leo |
150/1(-200%) | (6) Majestic Leo 150/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Fontwell latest; decent run in cheekpieces when last seen on the Flat in June; effective at 10f but has a bit to prove over this sort of trip. Pulled up in juvenile hurdles on last 2 runs and may be best watched now back on the Flat. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Impressive on the step up to this extreme distance at Pontefract earlier in the month, ACTION PACT is likely to improve plenty following that success and a 3lb rise could prove lenient for the son of Golden Horn. A highly progressive sort of late, with three wins in his last five starts, Both Of Us is capable of being in the shake-up again. Trojan Sun displayed a willing attitude when holding on narrowly to score at Musselburgh recently.

This could be between the thriving 3yos BOTH OF US and Rupert The Prince. Both Of Us powered clear at Newcastle last time.

80/1(-186%) | (15) Hot Talent 80/1, Slightly better than result down in trip and tried in cheekpieces when beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap over 7f at Yarmouth last time; slightly better latest but soft ground is new. 16/1(+20%) | (13) Jack Daniel 16/1, Below form when beaten 5l in a handicap at Southwell last time; off a short break; suited by 1m, acts on soft and good ground; form tailing off. Below par in August last time but some good form this season and he's won on soft ground. |

|PU| (10) (66/1 -164%)Bizou |
66/1(-164%) | (10) Bizou 66/1, Struggled on deep ground when down the field in a handicap at Bath most recent; effective at 8f, acts on sound surface; bounce back needed and ground a concern. Close third on handicap debut at Kempton in May but unable to kick on subsequently. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Lost In Wonder has failed to land too much of a blow in three starts in maiden/novice company, but could prove a different proposition on her handicap bow. Even so, the hat-trick seeking WRYDCROFT looks the way to go. Pam Sly's gelding hasn't looked back since competing in the handicap ranks and struck in comfortable style at Leicester, with the extra furlong here not posing any fears. Last-time-out Ayr scorer Oilisa is another to note.

Wrydcroft and OILISA are 3yos with recent winning form who could have more to offer, with preference for Oilisa.

Didn't see out the stiff finish over 2m2f at Pontefract last time; she's not discounted. |

2nd (9) (16/1 +20%)Cynthia |
16/1(+20%) | (9) Cynthia 16/1, Disappointing when comfortably held in a 12f handicap at Haydock last time; effective at 12f on a sound surface and normally consistent. Went close on handicap debut at Leicester in July but hasn't been at the same level since. |

Four Flat wins this season (1m2f/1m3f); stamina to prove but has to be respected. |

9/2(+44%) | (5) Kotari 9/2, Found wanting for pace down in trip on drier ground when beaten 4l in an 11f handicap at Windsor last time; blinkers on for the first time; effective from 10-14f and may prefer testing ground at shorter trips; added headgear could help. Regressive campaign but has dropped down the weights; not ruled out now in blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (2/1 +78%)Sawgrass |
2/1(+78%) | (6) Sawgrass 2/1, Below her best, getting behind after an awkward start when beaten 6 1/4l in a 2m handicap at Ripon last time; effective at 14-16f; acts on good to firm and good to soft ground; needs a hold-up ride and could bounce back. 20/1(+9%) | (4) Whatcombe 20/1, Ran no sort of race on stable and handicap debut, well beaten in a 10f handicap at Sandown latest; cheekpieces on for the first time after a short break; effective at 8f and should stay further; acts on heavy ground; needs headgear to work. Lightly raced 3yo who has shown promise but needs to get back on track on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (11/1 -47%)Karthala |
11/1(-47%) | (7) Karthala 11/1, Not far off his best up in trip in added cheekpieces when beaten 1 1/4l off 67 over 11f at Yarmouth last time; blinkers replace cheekpieces; effective up to 12f, acts on good and good to soft ground, and has potential as a stayer. Kept on for second over 11.4f at Yarmouth recently and could improve again now at 1m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (15/2 -15%)Hebridean Nomad |
15/2(-15%) | (3) Hebridean Nomad 15/2, May have needed the run back from a break on turf debut when fourth, beaten 7l in a handicap at Salisbury latest; trainer in form; effective around 12f, not really proven over further; acts on good ground; ground a query now. Returned from break to finish fourth of 11 at Salisbury and could build on that effort. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It's a bit of a surprise that Karthala sports first-time blinkers after showing a nice amount of improvement with the application of cheekpieces when second at Yarmouth, but he still has to be respected. The booking of Billy Loughnane on Sawgrass is noteworthy, but SPARTAN TIMES gets the nod. The son of Frontiersman readily returned to winning ways over 1m2f at Redcar and, despite the considerable rise in trip, he will prove hard to beat.

Karthala could relish the step up in trip but this could go to another 3yo in WESTLAIN, who also looks to have plenty of stamina.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

7/2(+71%) | (9) Run Of Luck 7/2, Ran close to form despite deeper ground when fourth beaten 8 1/4l in a Chester handicap. Effective between 10f and 12f, handles any ground, but stamina for this longer trip remains uncertain. On a winning mark and the ground will be fine but still to convince with stamina at 1m6f. |

4th (3) (5/1 +17%)Swinging London |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Swinging London 5/1, Returned to form when back to his spring best, winning by a short-head off 65 over 12f at Newcastle. Effective between 12f and 14f, handles soft and good ground, and capable back up in trip. Narrow win at Newcastle last week (1m4f; front 2 clear); conditions fine; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (10/1 -67%)Bowling Shane |
10/1(-67%) | (5) Bowling Shane 10/1, Improved when keeping on well in a steadily run 12f novice at Kempton, finishing fourth beaten 5l. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (4/1 -60%)Ethelwulf |
4/1(-60%) | (8) Ethelwulf 4/1, Improved for the switch to turf on handicap debut when second beaten 5l over 11f at Yarmouth. Effective at 12f, handles good to soft ground, and well bred with more to come stepping up in trip. Fair second on recent handicap debut; step up in trip could unlock further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (12/1 +52%)Now The Eagle |
12/1(+52%) | (6) Now The Eagle 12/1, Lacked pace to get involved on British debut when comfortably held in a 12f Kempton handicap. Effective from 12f to 13f, suited by soft ground; maiden in France who should do better back on turf and up in trip. Ex-French; conditions should suit but not easily recommended after a low-key stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Swinging London got up to score by a short head at Newcastle last Friday and will need to transfer that form to turf. Even if he does, the son of Dark Angel might still be up against it with ETHELWULF in opposition. The Gosdens' gelding finished second over an extended 1m3f at Yarmouth recently, shaping as if this step up in distance could unlock improvement. Off an unchanged mark, he could be the one to beat. Gifted Angel is another to watch out for.

Although there are some potential improvers on show, there should be another big run in the offing from SWINGING LONDON.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (9/2 -13%)Velvet Whisper |
9/2(-13%) | (7) Velvet Whisper 9/2, Back to her best up in trip when beaten a neck off 64 at Redcar last time; effective up to 10f and acts on good to firm and good to soft ground, though whether she handles soft ground remains to be seen. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(10) (7/1 +79%)Dust Cover |
7/1(+79%) | (10) Dust Cover 7/1, Soft ground may not have suited off a stiff mark when beaten 10l in an 8f Sandown handicap last time; returns from a short break and should be suited by around 8f, though has a bit to prove over soft ground at this trip. Not solid but low mileage and he drops in class and steps up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (15/2 -7%)Freddy Robinson |
15/2(-7%) | (3) Freddy Robinson 15/2, Ran to form in added blinkers despite trouble when third, beaten 4 1/4l in a Beverley handicap most recently; effective at 10-12f and acts on any ground, but stamina still to prove over this far. On a losing run but drops in class and he should be in the thick of the action once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(16) (8/1 +50%)Moonlit Cloud |
8/1(+50%) | (16) Moonlit Cloud 8/1, Again below form despite the drop in trip when beaten 7l in a Chelmsford handicap last time; effective at 10f, handles soft ground and the all-weather, but inconsistent and has something to prove at present. C&D winner who handles testing conditions; needs to bounce back from two modest efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(12) (14/1 -27%)Zouligan |
14/1(-27%) | (12) Zouligan 14/1, Made no impact in a race that favoured prominent racers when beaten 7l in an 8f handicap here last time; wears cheekpieces first time; effective at 8-10f, acts on good to soft, good and all-weather, and needs headgear to help. Unplaced all seven starts; not progressing and connections now reach for headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (28/1 -133%)Blackwaterfoot |
28/1(-133%) | (4) Blackwaterfoot 28/1, Never competitive back on the all-weather when beaten 8 1/4l in a 9f Wolverhampton handicap last time; suited by 10f and handles good ground, but has a bit to prove faced with soft turf. Won a weak five-runner handicap at Ffos Las in July; well held on AW since; opposable. |

50/1(-25%) | (9) Zucayan 50/1, Never travelling when dropped in trip and finished down the field in a 7f Wolverhampton handicap last time; effective around 8f and suited by a sound surface, could improve back up in distance. Poor Flat form thus far but down in class and up in trip; better expected this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(15) (50/1 +0%)Treasured Angel |
50/1(+0%) | (15) Treasured Angel 50/1, Well below form and appeared not to stay when well beaten in an 11f Yarmouth handicap latest; wears cheekpieces first time; effective at 10f and acts on soft ground, with the drop in trip likely to help. Little solid form and hopes rest on the new cheekpieces giving her a lift. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (125/1 -150%)Luisa |
125/1(-150%) | (6) Luisa 125/1, Below form when dropped in trip on stable debut, well beaten in a 9f Wolverhampton handicap last time; effective up to 10f but all worthwhile form is on the all-weather, leaving something to prove on soft turf. Low-key stable debut on AW last month; too much to prove for comfort. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Sweet Kiss only finished fourth when attempting to complete a hat-trick at Newcastle, but is likely to enjoy the return to turf so she has to be considered. C&D winner San Francisco Bay is noted, but it may pay to side with VELVET WHISPER. Ed Bethell's filly relished the step up to this trip when outrunning odds of 22/1 to fill the runner-up spot at Redcar earlier this month. With a similar performance, she could be the one to beat.

A few 3yos of note, with the thriving Sweet Kiss perhaps the pick, but FREDDY ROBINSON is a reliable performer who drops in class.
Ths is the racecard key.
