5/4(+44%) | (7) Imola 5/4, Had the run of the race and improved when second beaten a short-head off 57 last time, 1lb lower here. Effective 7-9f and acts on all-weather; still looks fairly treated. This month's C&D win was followd by a close second at Wolverhampton last week; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

11th (4) (18/1 -140%)Quite Sweet |
18/1(-140%) | (4) Quite Sweet 18/1, Lacked pace when sixth beaten 7 1/4l off 57 last time, same mark here. Effective 8/9f and acts on the all-weather; needs to bounce back. Looked good over C&D in October but two lesser runs have followed; still low mileage. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

IMOLA had the measure of Amarachi (second) over C&D before pushing an in-form rival all the way at Wolverhampton under a penalty. The daughter of Calyx is actually 4lb well-in and while on good terms with herself, she appears to have another excellent chance. Coramento was unable to land the hat-trick at Newcastle, but he did get the better of Imola there in November and should not be underestimated.

An open race but a chance is taken that the return to Southwell can see QUITE SWEET belatedly build on her cosy C&D win in November.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (7/2 -17%)Silky Lass |
7/2(-17%) | (7) Silky Lass 7/2, Best run to date when second, beaten a length in a novice at Newcastle; effective at 8f and likely to stay further; heading the right way and open to further progress. Showed improvement with 1l second at Newcastle most recently; one of the main players. |

22/1(+56%) | (5) Darn Hot Dame 22/1, Green, on and off the bit after a slow break and given an easy time when well beaten in a novice at Kempton on debut; middle-distance bred and likely to improve with experience. Needs to step up sharply on her Kempton effort. |

7th (8) (200/1 -33%)Spirit Of Tokyo |
200/1(-33%) | (8) Spirit Of Tokyo 200/1, Poor debut, well beaten in a maiden at Newcastle on only start; pedigree shows speed on the sire's side and stamina on the dam's; plenty to prove after that effort. Posted a duck egg in 7f maiden at Newcastle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (18/1 +10%)Sweet Scent |
18/1(+10%) | (4) Sweet Scent 18/1, Modest debut, beaten 8l in a maiden at Newcastle on debut; off a long absence but stable has kept faith, suggesting some potential to find improvement. Absent since finishing seventh of eight at Newcastle 16 months ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

This will not take much winning and LADY DORA MAE is expected to shed her maiden tag. The daughter of Space Blues was caught on the line when making her stable debut at Lingfield, but that was a step forward from her first start and returning to a mile can unlock even more improvement. Silky Lass hit the woodwork at Newcastle, although an official rating of 63 would suggest she'll need more to land the spoils. Vizija is also noted.

Lady Dora Mae and Silky Lass are major players on form but VIZIJA is an interesting alternative.

6/4(+40%) | (1) Brazilian Rose 6/4, Produced her best work late to land a handicap by 3/4l off a 4lb lower mark here last time. Effective over 6/7f and handles the all-weather. Respected off her new mark. Successful at Southwell last time and remains favourably treated on peak form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/1 +18%)Insuspense |
9/1(+18%) | (6) Insuspense 9/1, Below form when beaten 7l in a handicap here last time but had been in good form before. A significant jockey booking, effective at 6/7f on the all-weather, and a bounce back is needed. Return to 6f may prompt a rebound and chance is boosted by the booking of Tom Marquand. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (5/2 +64%)Mayo County |
5/2(+64%) | (8) Mayo County 5/2, Ran to her best when beaten 1 1/4l off a 2lb lower mark at Newcastle last time. Drawn wide but effective over 6/7f on the all-weather and can go well again. Creditable second last time; back up in grade but receives weight all round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (6/1 +40%)Art Design |
6/1(+40%) | (3) Art Design 6/1, Step back in right direction tried in cheekpieces when beaten 3l off a 2lb higher mark at Newcastle last time; off a short-break; suited by 6f, acts on Hy, GF and AW; needs more with blinkers tried instead now. Effective at 6/7f on the all-weather and needs to rebound. Has proved a free-going sort; may settle better and progress with hood now fitted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (25/1 -39%)Toomuchforme |
25/1(-39%) | (4) Toomuchforme 25/1, Again below her 2024 form when beaten 5l in a Wolverhampton handicap last time. Effective at 6f on the all-weather but has yet to match her 2yo form. Not solid on her AW form for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Brazilian Rose came home best of all to score over 7f here and she merits respect from 4lb higher. However, slow starts have become a theme recently and that could hinder her chances now dropped a furlong in trip. With that in mind, the vote goes to MISS MENDOZA, who took a step forward to fill the runner-up spot over C&D. The Lope De Vega filly remains open to improvement and, from a handy draw, she might find the necessary progression. Mayo County heads the remainder.

There are positive angles as regards most of the runners in an open-looking contest. The percentage call goes to KEWMILL.

Best at 7/8f on this surface, likes Southwell and can go well again off the new mark. Last-time C&D win took his Southwell record to 7-19; unexposed at this trip; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/2 +50%)Commander Of Life |
9/2(+50%) | (2) Commander Of Life 9/2, Bit keen but ran to form when beaten 3 1/4l off this mark at Chelmsford last time. Effective over 7/8f on this surface and capable of another good effort. Respectable fourth at Chelmsford on reappearance; frame possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (18/1 -80%)Chola Empire |
18/1(-80%) | (9) Chola Empire 18/1, Outpaced and never threatened when below form beaten 6l in a Chelmsford handicap last time. Effective at 6/7f and best on this surface; inconsistent but a C&D winner capable off this mark. Three-time C&D winner who is on a handy mark; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 +56%)Tennessee Gold |
7/2(+56%) | (1) Tennessee Gold 7/2, Made good late headway and shaped better than the result when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. Effective over 6/7f on this surface and can go well. On a workable mark; possibilities if taking well to first-time headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Effective over 6/7f on this surface and has a fair chance after only a small rise. Made all at Lingfield last time (second start for new yard); may remain competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (18/1 -29%)Silver Samurai |
18/1(-29%) | (6) Silver Samurai 18/1, Below form upped in trip when finishing down the field in a Wolverhampton handicap most recently. In good form prior; trainer going well. Probably best at 7f on this surface and needs more despite an easing mark. Useful on his day but failed to beat a rival last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (5/2 +38%)Golden Pharaoh |
5/2(+38%) | (3) Golden Pharaoh 5/2, Ran to form beaten 3/4l off a 1lb lower mark here last time; suited by 7/8f, acts on Hy, GF and AW; hit form but nudged up again in the weights. Runner-up twice at Southwell since returned to AW; fighting chance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

DOWN TO THE KID was a model of consistency for much of the first half of 2025 and has picked up where he left off, going close over a mile here before justifying favouritism over C&D. A 3lb rise isn't exactly harsh and he can follow up, possibly at the chief expense of Golden Pharaoh, who has been denied in tight finishes on his last three appearances. Giorgio M ended a bit of a dry spell at Lingfield just before Christmas and is another to consider.

Being a rock-solid contender who remains unexposed at this trip, DOWN TO THE KID (nap) is taken to follow up his latest course win.

1st (1) (9/2 -13%)Eligible |
9/2(-13%) | (1) Eligible 9/2, Back to best form when landing a handicap by 3l off a 6lb lower mark at Newcastle last time. Effective at 7f and 8f, acts on any surface. A veteran in fine form but the new mark demands more again. Hurled up 11lb for recent wins but he has less to prove than many in here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (7/2 +83%)Feel The Need |
7/2(+83%) | (7) Feel The Need 7/2, Failed to pick up on deep ground when down the field in a handicap at Doncaster last time. Off a short break and suited by 7f or 8f. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (17/2 +15%)Sensorium |
17/2(+15%) | (8) Sensorium 17/2, Ran a bit below form when beaten 4l off a 2lb higher mark here last time. Significant jockey booking. Best at 5f to 6f and acts on the all-weather. Needs to bounce back. Hasn't been that threatening since winning in a first-time tongue-tie at Chelmsford in Oct. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (6/1 -71%)Tolstoy |
6/1(-71%) | (6) Tolstoy 6/1, A bit keen but took a step back in the right direction when beaten 4l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. Suited by 7f and 8f, acts on the all-weather. Mark easing but still needs more. Well treated and all things considered ran well at Chelmsford 12 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (13/2 -63%)Hitched |
13/2(-63%) | (5) Hitched 13/2, Ran to form when beaten a head off this mark at Wolverhampton last time. Trainer is in form. Effective from 8f to 10f and acts on this surface. A live chance based on recent efforts. Has been running well off this sort of mark but this is a belated return to 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/2 -50%)King Of Ithaca |
9/2(-50%) | (3) King Of Ithaca 9/2, Produced his best form in 11 months when landing a handicap by 2 1/2l off a 6lb lower mark here last time. Has a top course jockey booked, suited by 7f, acts on all-weather. New mark asks a bit more. Yet another C&D success when doing it comfortably just before Christmas; career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (13/2 +46%)Al Muqdad |
13/2(+46%) | (2) Al Muqdad 13/2, No-show from off the pace when sixth, beaten 5l off 80 last time, and now 2lb lower. Suited by 7f and acts on this surface. Remains 8lb above his last winning mark. Has shown he's capable off this mark but has to rebound from two lesser efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (12/1 +33%)Law Of Design |
12/1(+33%) | (4) Law Of Design 12/1, Never in it after a slow start when beaten 8l in a handicap at Wolverhampton last time. Effective at 6f and 7f. Unproven on the all-weather. Won as a 2yo; made a quiet debut for this yard at Wolverhampton a month ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

At the age of 10, Eligible has suddenly discovered a new zest for life, although a further 6lb rise may thwart his hat-trick bid. King Of Ithaca also arrives in winning form after registering his fourth track-and-trip triumph shortly before Christmas, but HITCHED is taken to gain a deserved success. David Simcock's six-year-old has made the frame in four of his last five outings and is 1lb well-in following last week's narrow Wolverhampton defeat.

If a break has done him good then FEEL THE NEED might be the answer. Tolstoy is an enigma but could easily run well.

5/2(+55%) | (2) Baker Blue 5/2, Made a bit too much use of when beaten 3l off a 1lb higher mark at Wolverhampton last time; top course jockey booked; effective at 5/6f; consistent performer who can go well again. Two attempts for new stable include a Southwell win; may do better still on AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/2 -75%)Fortification |
7/2(-75%) | (4) Fortification 7/2, Ran to form tried in cheekpieces when winning a novice at Wolverhampton by 2 1/2l last time; returns from a short break; effective at 5f on all-weather; has more to offer now handicapping. Solid record (321) in novice events; took well to cheekpieces last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/1 +8%)Jack The Bachelor |
11/1(+8%) | (1) Jack The Bachelor 11/1, Hooded, didn't get the clearest run and ran close to form when beaten a length off this mark at Newcastle last time; effective at 5f on a sound surface and can go well again. Beaten only 1l at Newcastle on stable debut; possibilities if building on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (28/1 -75%)Call Margot |
28/1(-75%) | (7) Call Margot 28/1, Again well held tried in a new headgear combination when beaten 8 1/2l in an auction race at Bellewstown last time; first run on all-weather for this stable debut. Something to prove off her opening mark on debut for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (10/1 -82%)Guernsey Angel |
10/1(-82%) | (5) Guernsey Angel 10/1, Seemed to improve again when landing a handicap by 1/2l off a 6lb lower mark here last time; effective at 5/6f on all-weather; in good form and can go well. Record of 131 since handicapping and switched to AW; won at Southwell last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (11/4 -38%)Magic Stone |
11/4(-38%) | (3) Magic Stone 11/4, Outpaced but got no run and would have gone close when beaten 2l off this mark at Wolverhampton last time; top jockey back on board; suited by 6f, acts on a sound surface; unlucky last time and competitively handicapped. Has consistent form over 6f; likely player provided he copes with drop in distance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FORTIFICATION was an expensive breeze-up purchase so it will have been a tough decision to geld him. That probably played a part in helping him break through at Wolverhampton, though, and he can take the necessary step forward to defy an opening mark of 81. Magic Stone had Baker Blue half a length behind when third on his all-weather debut and didn't get the rub of the green so should be able to confirm his superiority. Guernsey Angel beat a subsequent winner over C&D so commands attention too.

Preference is for GUERNSEY ANGEL, who has solid form since racing in AW handicaps. Fortification is second choice.

Tuba was unable to back up his Wolverhampton triumph when third at Lingfield, but that was still a fair effort and he is noted. Edwardtheninth made the frame over C&D last time and is another to consider, but the vote goes to GRAND DUCHESS OLGA. The daughter of Sir Percy was beaten a neck into second in this grade at Wolverhampton last week and a similar performance might suffice.

In-form maiden EDWARDTHENINTH may be able to get off the mark. Tuba is second pick.

KARAKULA DANCER showed a big chunk of improvement when recording his first career success at Lingfield and may have been worth more than the winning margin suggests. With the potential for further improvement, the son of Palace Pier looks the one to side with. First-time cheekpieces brought about a better effort from Reason's Power when a close-up third at Chelmsford and she has to be taken seriously. Grey Sands completes the shortlist.

With cheekpieces added, GREY SANDS could well build on his latest Dundalk effort and go one better. Karakula Dancer is second pick.
Ths is the racecard key.
