CREST OF FIRE achieved a decent level of form last season and ended the campaign with a narrow defeat to Mcmurray, who had finished further ahead the time before in a Ffos Las maiden, in a competitive nursery at Doncaster's St Leger meeting. That rival scored again on his next start, so the form reads well and it would be disappointing if he were unable to get off the mark at this level. Powder Monkey looks the obvious threat based on his second at Wolverhampton, while better is expected from King Of Berkshire.

Crest Of Fire sets the standard but time may tell POWDER MONKEY was facing mission impossible on his debut and he gets the vote.

The application of cheekpieces made a huge difference to FICKLE MCSELFISH when running out a comfortable winner at Newcastle last week. Despite a 6lb penalty, he could prove a tough nut to crack if the headgear has the same effect. Maximum Velocity commands plenty of respect following his third on his handicap debut at Newcastle earlier in the month. Others to note are Popty Ping and Serragasso.

A good handful to consider but the vote goes to MAXIMUM VELOCITY (nap), who ran well on his return this month and can build on that.

Good Earth completes the shortlist.
