MECENE has shown promise on both starts over timber and brings the strongest piece of form judged on his third to Feel Gut at Warwick in January. Jane Williams' gelding wouldn't need to improve much to shed the maiden tag. Dakota Star is entitled to improve following his debut third at Hereford in November, especially after a wind operation, while Sixty's Rock and the well-bred newcomer Another Enki complete the shortlist.

Jane Williams' MECENE holds the clear edge on form and is taken to get off the mark at the third go after two promising efforts.

GNOMON was no match for a subsequent Grade 2 winner at Kempton on Boxing Day but this looks to be a suitable opportunity for him to get off the mark over timber. A useful type on the Flat for Ralph Beckett, he is likely to be too strong for Way Of Stars (second) and Babyken (third), who were closely matched over C&D last month.

With this good ground likely to suit him WAY OF STARS is taken to confirm last month's C&D placings with Babykin.

Tilehurst returns from a break on his handicap debut and is likely to enter the reckoning along with Siam Park, who bids to get his confidence back after falling over fences at Sandown.

Olly Murphy's KENTUCKY RIVER (nap) has yet to shine over hurdles but this fair Flat winner can score now given less testing conditions

This is within range for KELCE, who handled going right-handed at Musselburgh and won something in hand. This consistent eight-year-old has a decent chance of notching back-to-back wins on that evidence. Royal Jewel's C&D success reads well and the top weight must be feared. However, his stable companion, Kap Vert, is less exposed over fences and could be a bigger danger after a commendable third in good company at Ascot.

SPECIAL JOHN won his first two starts for Sam Thomas in a progressive manner and a rise in both class and trip caused him to falter in a deeper race at Windsor. Back down in grade and at an optimum trip, the seven-year-old is a tempting proposition with cheekpieces added. That is not to underestimate the likes of Chief Black Robe, Walkinthepresent and Shuil Ceoil who could all capitalise on any weakness shown.

The vote goes to Neil Mulholland's progressive WALKINTHEPRESENT, who can build on a very good recent Chepstow third to get off the mark

Off the same mark, the six-year-old is very hard to oppose given that all of his rivals have questions to answer right now. The recent Ludlow fourth Blackijo Dagrostis appears to be the main threat, ahead of Away For The Night.
