80/1(-21%) | (5) Maxios Aurelius 80/1, Ran to bumper level when fourth beaten 22l in a juvenile hurdle at Exeter last time. Wears a hood for the first time and returns from a short break. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Diamond Jim has to be respected following his Haydock success last month, but he may struggle to give 7lb to FEEL GUT. Nicky Henderson's gelding was second on his only start in France and could make up into a top performer in this sphere. Enya and Dream's Ka both showed some ability on their respective debuts and are likely to be in the mix.

Triumph entrant FEEL GUT runs here in preference to a Grade 2 at Cheltenham on Saturday and the chances are he's above average.

300/1(-50%) | (13) Roberta Bishop 300/1, Outpaced and failed to build on debut when finishing down the field in a maiden bumper at Uttoxeter most recently; may be better suited by this stiffer test now hurdling. Did not show enough in her two bumpers to suggest she can threaten here. |

300/1(-50%) | (16) Wishful Wings 300/1, Pulled up in a novice hurdle at Ludlow last time; likely to need more time to show ability. Pulled up when 150-1 for 2m5f Ludlow novice hurdle won by Betty's Daisy on rules debut. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

JACKIE HOBBS made a winning debut over hurdles at Newbury in November and she was not disgraced when fourth in a Listed contest on her sole subsequent start at Haydock the following month. On that evidence, Harry Derham's mare could be hard to beat, although Lisnamurrican displayed plenty of promise when second on her Rules bow and is likely to improve for that experience. Others to consider are Ballymoreen, Betty's Daisy and Shotgun Shirley.

Harry Derham's JACKIE HOBBS drops in grade after running well in a Listed race last month and sets a useful form standard.

13/8(-30%) | (1) Jour D'evasion 13/8, Travelled and jumped well, winning easily when landing a handicap by 10l off a 10lb lower mark at Chepstow last time. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on heavy and good to soft ground. Hugely progressive performer but this is tougher. Bang-in-form 7yo who ended 2025 with two convincing wins; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (9/2 +55%)Epic West |
9/2(+55%) | (5) Epic West 9/2, Made mistakes, was outpaced, and needed the run on chase debut when down the field in a handicap chase at Kempton last time. 9/1(-13%) | (4) Inca De Lafayette 9/1, Needed the run and was unsuited by rain-softened ground when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Ludlow last time. 15/8(+25%) | (2) Excelero 15/8, Won by 9 1/2l off a 7lb lower mark here on his penultimate start. Far too free in a stronger race when fourth beaten 21l off 128 last time, now off the same mark. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

7/1(-17%) | (3) Cobbler's Boy 7/1, Far too free and needed the run when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Haydock last time. Previously in good form; effective at 2m and acts on good to soft and good ground. Likely to progress in handicaps over fences. Well beaten on handicap hurdle debut still looks interesting on this switch to fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

With most of these having questions to answer, it is hard to oppose JOUR D'EVASION. Henry Daly's gelding has won his last two starts very impressively and even a 10lb rise for the latest of those victories may not be enough to stop him in this company. Excelero disappointed when favourite at Ascot last time but is a player based on his previous C&D win, while Cobbler's Boy is next best.

The one with least to prove is JOUR D'EVASION, who ended last year in excellent form and is taken to complete a hat-trick.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

5/1(+17%) | (3) Jalisco Star 5/1, Won by 9 1/2l off an 8lb lower mark at Uttoxeter two runs ago; ran to form when second beaten 1 1/4l off 114 last time, now 1lb higher; stays well, acts on any ground, and remains fairly treated. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (14/1 -56%)Has Troke |
14/1(-56%) | (10) Has Troke 14/1, Ran to form when beaten 3 1/4l off a 1lb lower mark at Lingfield last time; effective at 3m, handles cut in the ground; still well treated on novice form and remains competitive. Not far away at Lingfield when giving the impression that race would bring him on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (85/40 +53%)Libre De Choeur |
85/40(+53%) | (5) Libre De Choeur 85/40, Ran to form when second beaten 4l in a handicap hurdle here last time; effective around 2m5f, acts on heavy and good to soft; open to improvement now stepping up in trip. Only his fourth run and a first handicap when a rallying second over 2m5f here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (18/1 -29%)Wa Wa |
18/1(-29%) | (6) Wa Wa 18/1, Yard won this last year; made mistakes and was below form when fourth beaten 18l in a handicap chase at Haydock last time; trainer in form; effective at 3m and best on a sound surface; had been in form before latest. |F| (2) (18/1 -125%)Hostile Hotelier |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (7/1 +13%)Imperial Merlin |
7/1(+13%) | (1) Imperial Merlin 7/1, Ran to form when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Haydock last time; effective from 2m5f to 3m, acts on any ground, and generally consistent. Has a lot of weight and was only fifth at Haydock last time, behind Gwennie May Star. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

GWENNIE MAY STAR is the sole C&D winner in the field and that is sure to stand him in good stead. He wasn't disgraced at Haydock last time out and coming back here with Sean Bowen taking over the reins makes him of considerable interest. Hostile Hotelier arrives in good nick and heads the list of dangers from Libre De Choeur.

With rain about conditions could easily turn soft and that would assist SEATOIT who went close on his final run in the mud.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It's only a lukewarm selection, but POTTERSMATTYEEEHAA looks up to winning a race of this nature judged on an improved Huntingdon performance last time out. The step up in trip might have been the key to that and he's given another chance. Just Four Fame has an absence to overcome but did go well when last sighted here, albeit over much further. Keep Midnight View in mind too.

Tim Vaughan's mare CONNIEMAK took a big step forward when placed at Hereford last month and might be the answer here.

HOUSE OF HABSBURG could be a really smart staying chaser on the evidence of his last-start Uttoxeter success. Unexposed over fences and over these type of trips, Christian Williams' charge ran a blinder in defeat here last month and confirmed that promise at the Midlands venue before Christmas, leaving a lasting impression. He's taken to prove too strong for He Knows Better and Kalista Love.

Christian Williams' HOUSE OF HABSBURG (nap) looked a strong stayer on heavy ground at Uttoxeter last time and can overcome a 10lb rise.

40/1(0%) | (5) D'jango 40/1, Needed the run when well beaten in a point at Chaddesley Corbett latest; returning from a long layoff; effective over 3m, the further the better; veteran with plenty to prove back under rules. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

JET PLANE's latest second in a veterans' series handicap chase at Sandown reads very well in the context of this hunter chase contest and Dan Skelton's charge must have a great chance dropping in class. Golden Son hasn't been seen since finishing third at Newbury last March but commands respect at this level, while Slipway is another to note.

Seemingly in career-best form when winning a Leicester handicap by over 9l last month, JET PLANE looks the one to beat.
Ths is the racecard key.
