Call Me Arthur |
(5) (5/2 -11%)5/2(-11%) | (5) Call Me Arthur 5/2, Didn't offer a great deal in 5 starts at around 2m but much more like it when second in 15-runner Exeter handicap (21.6f) in November, staying on well and just failing. One to be interested in on that evidence. Much-improved form when close second of 15 last month; can progress again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pollyonesock |
(6) (8/1 +20%)8/1(+20%) | (6) Pollyonesock 8/1, Stepped up on what she showed in bumpers when third of 10 on first completed start over hurdles at Stratford (16.3f, soft) in April. Hasn't gone without promise both starts beyond 2m since, latterly when fifth in an Aintree novice (20f) in November. Likely capable of better now handicapping. Placed in run-of-the-mill mares' maiden in April but yet to build on that performance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ingennio |
(4) (9/2 -29%)9/2(-29%) | (4) Ingennio 9/2, Remains a maiden following 10 attempts over hurdles but he again ran well when second at Newcastle (16.8f) 17 days ago, every chance approaching last and keeping on. Effective at this longer trip and he's one to bear in mind. 0-10 over hurdles but ran big race in defeat on heavy ground this month; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I Got Stung |
(1) (13/2 -18%)13/2(-18%) | (1) I Got Stung 13/2, Shaped like a stayer when finishing midfield only start in bumpers and offered more than previously over hurdles when fourth on qualifying run at Ludlow (15.7f) in October. Yard know this family well and likely there's more to come now handicapping up in trip. Encouraging fourth in 2m novice in October; should have improvement to come in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bitsnbuckles |
(3) (13/2 -8%)13/2(-8%) | (3) Bitsnbuckles 13/2, Looks to have been brought along with handicaps in mind, not knocked about turned out quickly at Market Rasen 6 weeks ago. This longer trip will suit and interesting if the market speaks in his favour. Displayed promise in 2m novice hurdles and ought to be suited by this stiffer test. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Robber's Bridge |
(11) (15/2 -7%)15/2(-7%) | (11) Robber's Bridge 15/2, Has made more impact since sent handicapping this year and not discredited when third at Wincanton (19.8f) 38 days ago, the step back up in trip looking in his favour. Each-way claims from same mark. Sound effort when placed at Wincanton last month but now 0-13 over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Clongowes |
(7) (18/1 -80%)18/1(-80%) | (7) Clongowes 18/1, Flat winner who remains a maiden in this sphere but showed some promise starting out for new yard when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Lingfield (2m) last month. Eased further 4 lb ahead of this if he can build on that. Unlucky not to win off today's mark in May and ran okay on recent stable debut; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Amalfi Skyline |
(9) (22/1 -10%)22/1(-10%) | (9) Amalfi Skyline 22/1, No impact in 4 starts over hurdles, latterly on handicap debut back in June and returns to this sphere following a considerate introduction to chasing at Ludlow 25 days ago. Best watched. Pulled up on handicap hurdle debut in June but ran okay in a chase this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Getaway With You |
(12) (22/1 +12%)22/1(+12%) | (12) Getaway With You 22/1, Maiden who was again sent off at long odds but managed to better previous exploits when fourth of 13 in novices' handicap at Lingfield (19.5f) in November. However, more needed if he's to play a part here. Ran well for a long way when fourth at Lingfield but is effectively 4lb higher here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
James Baie |
(10) (25/1 +75%)25/1(+75%) | (10) James Baie 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules who hasn't offered a great deal in trio of hurdle outings in recent months. Needs to show much more now handicapping. Well beaten at huge odds in three 2m novice/maiden hurdles this autumn; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Commodore Miller |
(2) (25/1 +0%)25/1(+0%) | (2) Commodore Miller 25/1, Fair form at his best for Nicky Henderson and was in the process of running well when departing 2 out in a Huntingdon handicap on first start for this yard in January. However, didn't jump well when down the field on his return at this venue in November. Struggled to get competitive here last month and has much more to prove than some. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Passengerontheship |
(8) (25/1 +0%)25/1(+0%) | (8) Passengerontheship 25/1, Placed in an Irish point, but low-key start in trio of quick-fire maiden/novice hurdle runs in recent months. Handicaps will be more his bag now at least. Always in rear division in three maiden/novice hurdles; improvement possible in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Call Me Sainte |
(13) (25/1 +50%)25/1(+50%) | (13) Call Me Sainte 25/1, Little form in a bumper/over hurdles to date and she's best watched operating from out of the weights. Unplaced all eight hurdling starts and 10lb out of the weights today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Having shown little in a handful of 2m starts, the money arrived for CALL ME ARTHUR over 2m5f at Exeter last month and he was only narrowly thwarted by Harry Fry's well-treated Danton. Tom Lacey's four-year-old is evidently thought capable of better and, though he's been raised 3lb, he could easily be ahead of the handicapper if handling this testing surface. Ingennio was only just denied when second in the mud at Newcastle last time and should again go well, while Olly Murphy's Bitsnbuckles is interesting over a longer trip on his handicap debut considering he once went close in a 3m point-to-point.
CALL ME ARTHUR showed much more than previously when just touched off by a fellow improver at Exeter 5 weeks ago, and with the prospect of more to come, he gets the nod to go one place better now. I Got Stung, Ingennio and Bitsnbuckles are others to consider.
Today's stiffer stamina test might unlock significant improvement from handicap debutant I GOT STUNG, who gets the nod.

Ottoline |
(2) (2/1 -14%)2/1(-14%) | (2) Ottoline 2/1, Having shown modest form in bumpers, was much improved on her third start over hurdles when winning novice at Uttoxeter (22.2f, heavy) 9 days ago, suited by the step up in trip. Respected now that she's up and running. Kept on well to beat 4-9 favourite on heavy ground at Uttoxeter last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Don't Rightly Know |
(1) (5/4 +9%)5/4(+9%) | (1) Don't Rightly Know 5/4, Defied a long absence when readily gettting off the mark in novice at Exeter (23.1f) in November. Ran at least as well when collared on the line at Wincanton (21.4f, heavy) 19 days ago, so she looks to hold leading claims. Returned from long layoff with 16l win last month and ran well on heavy ground since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oneandahalfdegrees |
(6) (8/1 -33%)8/1(-33%) | (6) Oneandahalfdegrees 8/1, After 7 months off, showed more than on her first start in bumpers when sixth of 17 at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) 50 days ago. Bred to come into her own once jumping, so she's an interesting contender now upped in trip over hurdles. Shaped with significant promise in big-field bumper last month; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ellies Sister |
(3) (9/1 +64%)9/1(+64%) | (3) Ellies Sister 9/1, Green on debut but knew more when runner-up in a Hereford bumper in January. However, produced a lacklustre first effort over hurdles at Market Rasen in May, so needs to leave that run well behind after a further 7 months off. Modest second in a bumper; not seen since since struggling on hurdle debut in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Quite The Getaway |
(7) (18/1 -80%)18/1(-80%) | (7) Quite The Getaway 18/1, Made the frame twice from 4 starts in bumpers, but offered little on her stable/hurdling debut when well-beaten sixth in maiden at Lingfield (19.5f, good to soft) a month ago. However, she could fare better with her recent run behind her. Second in good-ground course bumper last season but struggled on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Molto Bene |
(5) (22/1 -57%)22/1(-57%) | (5) Molto Bene 22/1, Showed a bit on her debut when fifth of 10 in maiden hurdle at Lingfield (19.5f, good to soft) last month. Will need to take a step forward from that first experience, though shaped as if going up in trip should suit. Made low-key debut when well-held fifth in Lingfield maiden hurdle (2m3f last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Twyford's Diamond |
(8) (22/1 -38%)22/1(-38%) | (8) Twyford's Diamond 22/1, Well held in bumper for Alastair Ralph but, after 9 months off, improved from that effort when fifth of 16 at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) on her stable debut last month. Bred to be suited by this longer distance as she makes her hurdles bow. Second bumper run was much better than her debut; much more needed again here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Miss Ghillie |
(4) (50/1 +0%)50/1(+0%) | (4) Miss Ghillie 50/1, Failed to complete both starts in points in the spring and looked one for the longer term when well held in maiden hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good to soft) on Rules debut 40 days ago. Showed only minor promise on last month's rules debut at Hereford (2m3f, good). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Venetia Williams' Ottoline is likely to be a warm order following an emphatic win in gruelling conditions at Uttoxeter last week but she has to shoulder a 7lb penalty, as does Don't Rightly Know, who was touched off in a hard race at Wincanton last time having defied a long absence to win well over 2m7f at Exeter last month. Both should be firmly in the mix but may be worth taking on with hurdling debutant ONEANDAHALFDEGREES, who has shaped with encouragement in two decent bumpers and she's bred to appreciate this much increased stamina test.
DON'T RIGHTLY KNOW opened her account in good style at Exeter in November and backed up that effort when second at Wincanton 19 days ago, so she is taken to resume winning ways as she makes only her fifth start under Rules. The 8-y-o can see off the challenge of recent winner Ottoline, while Oneandahalfdegrees is one to note on her hurdling debut.
The pick is DON'T RIGHTLY KNOW, who backed up her wide-margin Exeter win with a good effort in defeat on heavy ground at Wincanton.

Exmoor Forest |
(3) (9/1 -64%)9/1(-64%) | (3) Exmoor Forest 9/1, Improved on joining this yard last spring, opening his account in a 25f course maiden hurdle in May. Pulled up in 2 handicaps since, though, and needs a recent breathing operation to help him his career back on track., Won good-ground course maiden in May but ran very poorly in both subsequent handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Del La Mar Rocket |
(4) (10/1 +29%)10/1(+29%) | (4) Del La Mar Rocket 10/1, Landed a Ffos Las maiden hurdle in February 2022 but has been held back by his jumping since, including 2 chases last month. Remains to be seen whether a return to hurdling helps. Generally very disappointing since 33-1 win in early 2022; needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hauraki Gulf |
(2) (11/4 -57%)11/4(-57%) | (2) Hauraki Gulf 11/4, Bumper winner who has found just one too good on 5 occasions over hurdles, including chasing home Exmoor Forest in 25f course maiden in May. Might have needed his first start since when down the field in a warm Cheltenham handicap 44 days ago. Largely consistent sort who can be excused last month's defeat and handles heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grove Road |
(1) (11/4 -22%)11/4(-22%) | (1) Grove Road 11/4, Sedgefield bumper winner who looked a promising stayer in the making when winning a brace of novice hurdles in late 2022. Reappearance third in a Ffos Las handicap (3m, heavy) was quite encouraging and it might be worth ignoring his subsequent run over fences. Cheekpieces on. Player. Pulled up on recent chasing debut but the form of last month's hurdling third looks solid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Little Else |
(5) (13/8 +51%)13/8(+51%) | (5) Little Else 13/8, Improved to land a 23f Taunton handicap in April and has resumed her progression on her return, winning at Newton Abbot (heavy) in October and only narrowly denied a West Country hat-trick at Exeter in November. Leading claims. 2-3 since her wind op in March and can improve again if this thorough stamina test suits. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This looks a good opportunity for bumper winner HAURAKI GULF to deservedly break his duck over hurdles following five second-placed efforts. The eight-year-old was pitched into a deep handicap at Cheltenham on his reappearance and was in the process of running an encouraging race until being hampered by a faller two out. He should strip fitter with that blow-out under his belt and looks capable of winning off his present mark, although Grove Road will relish this stamina test back over hurdles after fluffing his lines on his chasing bow. Little Else only narrowly failed to land a hat-trick at Exeter last time and should again make her presence felt, despite another 2lb rise.
The obvious one here is LITTLE ELSE who can make it 3 wins in her last 4 starts. If a view is taken that Grove Road simply failed to take to chasing last time he's the danger as his reappearance third over hurdles at Ffos Las was creditable.
Easily excused his low-key reappearance run in a big field at Cheltenham last month, HAURAKI GULF can enhance his good record here.

Barrabooka |
(2) (10/3 -48%)10/3(-48%) | (2) Barrabooka 10/3, Presenting gelding. Dam unraced sister to top-class hurdler/very smart chaser (winner up to 21f) Oscar Whisky. Successful sole outing in Irish points (Jan 2023). From a good family and makes plenty of appeal on Rules debut. Won slow-ground Irish point on debut in January; makes rules debut here; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tedley |
(8) (11/8 +15%)11/8(+15%) | (8) Tedley 11/8, Left previous form well behind when going down narrowly in a Ffos Las novice (15.8f, heavy) earlier this month. Sets the standard on that effort. Went close on heavy ground at Ffos Las this month and is a leading contender here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Chatshow Tv |
(3) (11/2 -10%)11/2(-10%) | (3) Chatshow Tv 11/2, Finished runner-up sole start in Irish points and showed plenty when third here on hurdles debut. Perhaps found race coming too soon at Uttoeter next time and he should still improve. Made the frame on first two hurdling starts (2m3f/2m4f); contender if drop in trip suits. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dominic's Fault |
(5) (11/4 +39%)11/4(+39%) | (5) Dominic's Fault 11/4, Expensive purchase who is closely related to 2 winners, including smart hurdler/fairly useful chaser Midnight Game, stays 21f. Held in a share of second when falling at the last on hurdles debut at Aintree back in May 2022 and absent since but he's presumably capable of a good deal better. Disputing second before last-flight fall on debut in May 2022; not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Nedzor |
(7) (20/1 -122%)20/1(-122%) | (7) Nedzor 20/1, Cost £40,000 after finishing runner-up in a point in March and offered some encouragement when third in a novice at Chepstow on hurdling debut. Could step forward from that. Beaten about 15l when third in thin novice hurdle last month; improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cool View |
(4) (25/1 -25%)25/1(-25%) | (4) Cool View 25/1, Telescope gelding. Held back by inexperience when sixth of 9 in bumper at Exeter (16.7f, good to soft) on NH debut. Off 10 months. More needed on hurdles debut. Beaten about 27l on bumper debut in February; can only be watched on this hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tip Top Tonto |
(9) (33/1 -32%)33/1(-32%) | (9) Tip Top Tonto 33/1, Fair performer at best but has looked badly out of sorts recently and he's hard to make a case for. Regressive 7yo who was safely held in a recent claimer and is now 0-9 over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Telefenney |
(10) (66/1 +0%)66/1(+0%) | (10) Telefenney 66/1, Well held in a pair of maiden hurdles 6 months apart, so can't be recommended. Hasn't shown a great deal on her first two hurdling starts; needs to learn to settle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ballynaheer |
(1) (100/1 +0%)100/1(+0%) | (1) Ballynaheer 100/1, Runner-up on his completed outing in points but down the field both starts in maiden hurdles and it will surely be a similar story on qualifying run. Ran well to a point on last month's rules debut but well beaten since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lunar Ocean |
(6) (250/1 -150%)250/1(-150%) | (6) Lunar Ocean 250/1, Well beaten in 2 bumpers during the spring and unseated rider on hurdles bow over C&D last month. Displayed some ability on last month's hurdling debut but his jumping needs to improve. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Tedley sets just a modest standard based on the official ratings and, while he commands respect by remaining in maiden company rather than going for a handicap, it may be worth focusing on BARRABOOKA, who impressed by winning his solitary start in a point-to-point. Subsequently snapped up for 85,000 pounds, the son of Presenting starts out under Rules at a very realistic level and is by far the most intriguing option here. Nedzor is also considered now he has some experience to draw upon.
TEDLEY took a step forward when going down narrowly at Ffos Las last time and sets a clear benchmark on that performance. Point-winner Barrabooka is from the family of Oscar Whisky, so merits plenty of respect on Rules debut, with Chatshow Tv also considered returned to the scene of his promising debut.
A good second on heavy ground at Ffos Las recently, TEDLEY will be a tough nut to crack if in similar form here.

On the upgrade and not taken lightly despite a 6 lb rise. Won in good style at Uttoxeter last time and could have more left in the tank; up 6lb. |

Rare Clouds |
(1) (8/1 -23%)8/1(-23%) | (1) Rare Clouds 8/1, Sole win came at Southwell in May 2022 and has made the frame on each completed outing since, excellent third of 9 in handicap at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) 37 days ago. Player. 9yo who has a poor strike-rate but arrives in good form and could be bang there once more. |

Ostrava Du Berlais |
(2) (10/1 +60%)10/1(+60%) | (2) Ostrava Du Berlais 10/1, Fair maiden hurdler/chaser for Patrice Quinton in France. Changed hands for €30,000 in November 2022 but has shown little for her new yard after a 13-month absence. Promise over hurdles/fences in France but pulled up/tailed off on her two British runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hill Of Tara |
(3) (11/4 -57%)11/4(-57%) | (3) Hill Of Tara 11/4, Much improved sent handicapping this season, winning in the mud at Ffos Las and Leicester last month. Beaten on hat-trick bid at Southwell but still ran well and big shout once more. Engaged Haydock 12.15 Saturday. 3-4 in handicaps having won with something to spare at Haydock yesterday; escapes penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
General Hubble |
(6) (11/4 -22%)11/4(-22%) | (6) General Hubble 11/4, Much improved since sent handicapping in cheekpieces and he got off the mark at Market Rasen (23f) last month, despite making some mistakes. Up 3 lb but he can do better still. Big shout. Won at Market Rasen last month and this unexposed 5yo could continue to progress; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hokelami |
(4) (13/2 +28%)13/2(+28%) | (4) Hokelami 13/2, Won Stratford selling hurdle in April (final start for Olly Murphy) and fair fourth in a handicap hurdle there for new stable 3 weeks later. However, last month's reappearance/chase debut in a first-time hood at Market Rasen was anything but encouraging. On a handy mark and reverts to hurdles with yard in flying form; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gaia Vallis |
(7) (25/1 -25%)25/1(-25%) | (7) Gaia Vallis 25/1, Went close in 3m mares' handicap at Taunton in April but well held all three starts this term. Lots to prove. Went close at Taunton in April but soundly beaten sixth on her two outings this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Harkangel |
(8) (33/1 -65%)33/1(-65%) | (8) Harkangel 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden hurdler. Failed to build on reappearance promise when sixth of 9 at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) 19 days ago. Needs to bounce back from 3 lb out of the handicap. Lightly raced 5yo who has shown glimpses of promise but she was well beaten last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LIBOR LAD was in a determined frame of mind when he won at Uttoxeter last month and could be difficult to overhaul if he copes with the 6lb higher mark today. General Hubble jumped out to the left on occasions when winning at Market Rasen on his latest start and rates as the biggest threat to the selection now going left-handed off 3lb higher, while Hill Of Tara is also respected if turning up after Saturday's Haydock triumph.
A case can be made for a few of these but Kim Bailey's GENERAL HUBBLE overcame some sloppy jumping to score on his return at Market Rasen and can continue on the up and defy a 3 lb rise in the weights. Uttoxeter-winner Libor Lad also arrives on the up and rates a big threat though, with both Rare Clouds and Hill of Tara weighted to have a say too in a competitive handicap.
Having won with something to spare at Uttoxeter last month, LIBOR LAD (nap) could still be ahead of the handicapper and gets the vote.

Couldn't justify favouritism but showed plenty of ability when runner-up in bumper at Chepstow (16f, soft) just over 5 weeks ago. Should put that experience to good use here. Engaged 3.45 Haydock Saturday. Won by 14l at Haydock yesterday; will have a 7lb penalty to carry if he runs again here. |

Bill Joyce |
(1) (15/8 +0%)15/8(+0%) | (1) Bill Joyce 15/8, £225,000 4-y-o, Mahler gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to ungenuine but useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 25f) Return Spring. Successful sole start in Irish points (Feb 2023). Bought for £225,000 after winning Irish point debut in February; very interesting prospect. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BILL JOYCE, who cost 225,000 pounds after winning an Irish point-to-point, looks an interesting recruit for Jonjo O'Neill to go to war with this season and the son of Mahler is fancied to make an immediate impact on his debut under Rules. Les's Destiny Star, who went for 150,000 euros at Goffs in June last year, also enters the reckoning based on potential, while Valfortore and Jax Junior might have to settle for supporting roles on their respective racecourse debuts. San Frandisco (won at Haydock on Saturday) would have to be of interest if turning up here too.
BILL JOYCE fetched a hefty some after landing a point in February and he's well worth a chance to defend his unbeaten record for all that there are some interesting newcomers in opposition, notably Valforte and Les's Destiny. San Frandisco, who showed a good level of form at Chepstow first time out, is also a player.
The most obvious answer is BILL JOYCE, who changed hands for big money after his Irish point win in February.
Ths is the racecard key.
