Prince Hector was doing his best work at the finish when a comfortable winner over 1m4f here last week and this extra yardage should suit. However, that was only his third victory from 35 starts and a safer option may be MAMDOH, who won twice over this C&D last month and was only denied by half a length when runner-up off 1lb lower 10 days ago. Upped in distance for his handicap debut, an improved effort from Courageous Gold would come as no surprise.

Preference is for DAARIS, who found the test inadequate at Lingfield earlier in the month and can go one better than on penultimate start when beaten a nose by Mamdoh over C&D (3 lb better off at weights this time). Joseph Parr's 4-y-o has taken his form up a notch this year, so he rates as an obvious danger once again, with Prince Hector and stable-switcher Arc Zoosve taken to fight out minor honours.

Topweight DAARIS is weighted to gain revenge on Mamdoh, who pipped him by a nose over C&D last month.

THE DEFIANT touched off Wedgewood by the narrowest of margins when scoring over this C&D earlier in the month and they could fight it out again here. The former has subsequently finished a well-held third in a higher grade and, only 1lb worse off with the latter now dropped back in class, Luke Dace's gelding is fancied to edge out his reopposing rival again. Phoenix Beach is only 2lb higher than his track-and-trip victory two starts ago and he could mount another bold bid, while Level Up is slipping back to a fair mark.

GUSTAV GRAVES is a hostage to fortune give his run-style but wasn't beaten far under Clifford Lee here last week and is chanced in the hope everything drops right for them today. Port Hedland is the only runner without a C&D win to his name but made an encouraging start for Tony Carroll at Southwell 3 weeks ago and can build on that. Level Up will pop up again soon.

4yo PORT HEDLAND made an encouraging start for Tony Carroll over 6f at Southwell and may prove well suited by this drop back in trip.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Aiming High was only held by half a length when third off this mark over 1m3f at Southwell last time and should go well again, but preference is for the unexposed BAJAN BLUE. Winner of a maiden over the extended 1m1f here on debut, Roger Varian's filly made the frame in a 1m3f novice stakes at Southwell earlier in the month and, with the promise of more to come, a mark of 68 certainly looks workable on her handicap bow. C&D winner Kinetic is now only 1lb above her last winning mark and she is worth a second look.

It'll be a surprise if there isn't more to come from BAJAN BLUE after only 2 starts, particularly with 1½m likely to suit, and she can improve more-established rivals Aiming High and Kinetic.

The twice-raced Bajan Blue is feared but NOWHERE already has the form in the book and can strike on her third run for Tom Ward.

Having overcome his inexperience to make a winning debut at Southwell in November, there is likely more to come from SUPREME SOVEREIGN. Charlie Hills' gelding displayed a willing attitude on his introduction and can defy a penalty. San Juanito arrives on the back of a solid third on his handicap bow and the son of Lope De Vega is feared most, although market support for Grizzieblanca on her debut would be interesting.

SUPREME SOVEREIGN lowered the colours of an established sort when making a winning debut at Southwell in November and sure to relish this trip, he can go in again under a penalty. San Juanito's performance in a handicap last time reads well in the context of this race so he's a danger, while Outlandish requires a market check on debut.

A tentative vote goes to SAN JUANITO who has shown enough in four runs to suggest he can win a race of this nature.

HAVANA JOY built on her opening third at Kempton when filling the runner-up berth over 6f here 25 days ago. The daughter of Havana Grey is just the sort to relish the extra furlong and a breakthrough victory may beckon. Newcomer Niyla Breeze, a half-sister to useful French 1m2f winner Caligine, shouldn't be found lacking for stamina and market support would be interesting. Wise Stars also warrants close inspection.

HAVANA JOY stepped up on her debut effort when runner-up in a 6f novice here 25 days ago and, appealing as the type to progress further, she shades the vote on her first crack at 7f. Niyla Breeze is a newcomer to note with Oisin Murphy an eye-catching booking. Magna Grecia Star and Wise Stars are others fancied to be thereabouts.

Magna Grecia Star should build on a promising debut but 6f course second HAVANA JOY can improve again at 7f and gets the vote.

BETA READER came from out of the clouds to get up by a head over C&D earlier in the month and a 2lb rise for that success may underestimate him. Charlie Johnston's three-year-old makes only his second start in handicap company and could take another step forward. Party Bear showed more when hitting the woodwork over 6f at this venue in January and she might improve for this step up in distance. Maids Head is next best.

PARTY BEAR showed much-improved form on the back of 6 months off when second on handicap debut here (6f) in January. She appeals as the type to do better still, including at this longer trip, so could be the answer from a handy draw. Beta Reader did well to overcome a poor draw when making a winning handicap debut over C&D 11 days ago and he could yet have more to offer. Kathleen's Glory, Kamekist and Pageant are a trio of handicap newcomers to note, too.

Market support for the Gosden's handicap newcomer Kathleen's Glory would look significant but preference is for BETA READER (nap).

Sceptic made his second start for the Ian Williams yard a successful one over track and trip last time and he holds an obvious chance off a 2lb higher mark. However, it may pay to side with PRINCE ALI, who accounted for Golspie over C&D recently and is well drawn in stall two. The seven-year-old might only need to reproduce that level of form in order to strike again. Last-time-out Newcastle scorer It's A Love Thing is another to note.

SCEPTIC left last year's exploits in his wake when running out a ready winner of a C&D handicap 11 days ago and, remaining with plenty of handicapping scope on old form, he's selected to follow up now he's back up and running. Mr Nugget and Init Together are just a couple of dangers in a race containing a host of in-form sorts.

Mr Nugget may still be ahead of his mark but this shorter trip isn't certain to suit so the vote goes to recent C&D scorer SCEPTIC.
Ths is the racecard key.
