CHARLIE'S CHOICE resumed winning ways when scoring with plenty left in the tank at Southwell. His apprentice rider's 7lb claims negates a 5lb rise and David Simcock's inmate could prove difficult to stop. Graze On Phoenix ran out of steam in the closing stages at Newcastle on his reappearance, but should prove competitive with that run under his belt, while C&D winner Tortured Soul's recent second at Kempton suggests he could have a say in the outcome.

Plenty in with a squeak but the vote goes to CHARLIE'S CHOICE, who notched his third success of the year at Southwell recently and David Simcock's 4-y-o remains firmly of interest on the back of a 5 lb rise. Heading up the dangers is Tortured Soul, who confirmed his return to form when runner-up at Kempton earlier this month, with Graze On Phoenix and Arazzo taken to fight out third.

Preference is for TORTURED SOUL, who appears to be working his way back to winning form. Charlie's Choice is next best.

GRABAJABBA showed a big improvement from his debut fourth here when making every yard over this trip at Southwell. Mick Appleby's charge is penalised for that success, but is clearly going in the right direction and could prove hard to peg back if allowed his own way in front once again. Bear Rock finished in front of the selection when runner-up over this course and distance on her latest start and looks likely to pose the biggest threat, while Expert Elsa may prove best of the remainder.

GRABAJABBA was much improved from debut when getting off the mark at Southwell 10 days ago, showing a good attitude, and he can continue his progress to score again. Waiting For Love also opened her account at the second attempt and is respected if taking up this engagement aftera run on Sunday, while Bear Rock has also been going the right way.

Bear Rock beat GRABAJABBA here three weeks ago but the selection won well ten days ago and can reverse the placings.

Flaine came out best at Southwell in a duel to the line with Mrbluesky and that pair are hard to separate. The latter's stablemate Hashtagnotions opened his account when fitted with visor at Newcastle and he should have more to offer, but QUEEN HIMIKO may edge affairs. Jane Chapple-Hyam's filly has improved with every start and is potentially well treated on her handicap debut having finished a creditable third in maiden company over this C&D last time.

MR UBIQUITOUS didn't help himself by racing freely when fifth at Southwell 3 weeks ago but he'd previously looked one to keep firmly on side when successful on nursery debut at Kempton in October and he's given another chance to get back on the up. Antelope, on the back of a gelding operation, Tiempo Alegre and Hashtagnotions head up the dangers.

Most appealing are the two runners who have good C&D form, namely ANTELOPE (narrowly preferred) and Queen Himiko.

MUMAYAZ benefited from returning to the minimum distance when second here last Saturday and the five-year-old makes plenty of appeal running off the same mark. Lady Nunthorpe lost all chance at the start on her latest effort at Newcastle and is better judged on her victory at Southwell the time before. Others for the shortlist include Popular Dream and Nelson Gay.

Lots with chances. BEAUZON is always to be feared round here and went down only narrowly at the track last time out so edges the vote from the handily-weighted C&D scorer Nelson Gay who also came in runner-up here on his most recent start. Mumayaz and Smooth Silesie also need factoring in along with Popular Dream.

Nelson Gay should go well but SECRET MISTRAL (nap) has landed a better draw than on her last visit here and she can capitalise.

ROGUE THUNDER has dropped to a very fair mark and ran his best race for a while when third over C&D earlier in the month. This doesn't look a particularly strong event on paper and it may provide him the opportunity to gain a second career success. Neptune Legend has to enter the reckoning after his third at Lingfield, while Tilsworth Ony Ta's latest run at Southwell gives him every chance of being in the mix.

Course scorer LAURA'S BREEZE signalled she is ready to strike again when a recent third here so is fancied to capitalise on an easing mark. Resurgent Rogue Thunder heads the list of dangers, although a case can also be made for Neptune Legend, Crocus Time and Banana in this tightly-knit sprint.

Neptune Legend is feared with headgear back on but ROGUE THUNDER looked ready to strike when keeping on for third here last time.

MASHAAN returned to winning ways over 7f here on Boxing Day when building on a solid fourth at Lingfield just four days prior and Alice Haynes' gelding looks capable of backing those efforts up, despite a 5lb penalty. Autumn Angel was only beaten three-quarters of a length by the selection that day and is likely to offer a strong challenge again on better terms, while Savalas and Bernie The Bear appeal most of the remainder.

AUTUMN ANGEL went down fighting when beaten ¾-length by Mashaan over 7f here on Boxing Day and, with this drop back in trip unlikely to be an issue, the scales may well tilt in her favour this time, given that she meets the winner on 5 lb better terms. Savalas was successful over C&D on his latest start and he is third choice ahead of another C&D scorer in Bernie The Bear.

Mashaan should go well despite the shorter trip but this could be the day things finally fall into place for BERNIE THE BEAR.

Rated 109 at his peak when trained in Ireland, COACHELLO appears handily weighted from a mark of 92 and may be up to giving weight and a beating to the rest. The winner of four of his 10 previous starts on synthetics, the Mark Loughnane-trained six-year-old has nothing to fear from reverting to Tapeta and is a notable contender for a winter all-weather campaign. The recently-gelded Dyrholaey and Airman are forwarded as the pick of the three-year-olds.

COACHELLO is of strong interest returned to the all-weather on an appealing mark and he shades preference ahead of Dyrholaey, who has been absent since finishing down the field in a Royal Ascot handicap in June but he was 3-3 (all on the all-weather) prior to that and probably remains with potential. It will be interesting to see how Filly One, who was unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile, gets on now handicapping following a 12-month absence.

Dyrholaey is an unknown quantity but the well-handicapped COACHELLO could be the answer now back on AW.

This is an intriguing clash between several in-form rivals. The hat-tick seeking Harbour Vision and Port Erin, who were first and second in that order over 7f here in November, are closely matched. The latter subsequently won over 1m at Chelmsford and may be able to reverse the form over this longer trip. However, the well-handicapped LUNARSCAPE, who gamely won a similar event at Lingfield most recently, could be the answer. Freshened up by a break, this seems well within the versatile filly's reach despite a 3lb rise. Ciotog and Outrace are also feared.

Preference is for PORT ERIN, who pulled clear with a previous winner when scoring at Chelmsford earlier this month and remains nicely treated. The hat-trick chasing Harbour Vision is feared most, whilst Lunarscape should also go well.

The suggestion is attractively treated SHE'S CENTIMENTAL, ahead of solid-lookiing contenders Outrace and Ciotog.

Some of these have been struggling to find their form and with that in mind, ROYAL OBSERVATORY may have been found a good opportunity to take another step forward after getting off the mark with a determined effort over 1m2f at Chelmsford 18 days ago. A 3lb rise isn't too restrictive at this level and another bold showing is expected with Jack Mitchell taking over in the saddle. Major Major and Vecchio are others with solid form claims, while Lhebayeb is also feared from a handy mark.

ROYAL OBSERVATORY took advantage of a drop in the handicap when opening his account at Chelmsford earlier this month and still looks feasibly treated. He may be able to score again in the finale. Major Major and Bloodhound are also of interest.

Dropped back in distance off an attractive mark in the retained blinkers, MAJOR MAJOR may be the answer. Lhebayeb is second choice.
Ths is the racecard key.
