ABSURDE disappointed at Cheltenham, but had excuses and might just get the better of Galway Hurdle winner Ndaawi to score. Willie Mullins' eight-year-old has contested three Melbourne Cups and won the 2024 County Hurdle and while he struggled in the recent renewal at Cheltenham, he raced too keenly and erred at the opening flights. He will benefit from that reintroduction to hurdling and should settle better. Absurde and Ndaawi finished third and second respectively in the 2025 County Hurdle and although Ndaawi was also down the field at the Festival last month, just 1lb separates him and the selection on official ratings. The lightly-raced Soir De Garde might finish third.

ABSURDE finished well behind Ndaawi at Cheltenham but he lacked a recent run that day and he may be able to turn the tables

TUSCAN POINT won over C&D two starts ago and was only narrowly denied when trying to follow up. On that evidence, Adam Kirby's four-year-old appears to be the safest pick in an open event. Starsong could prove to be the main threat after her own second over this track and trip, while Andalprofit and Good Earth are others to note.

This can go to GOOD EARTH, who won in good style here ten days ago and has every chance of following up from 5lb higher.

A drop in class did the trick for Wolverhampton scorer Luna Beaux and she merits respect in her follow-up bid. However, Adrian Wintle's filly has yet to prove as effective on turf and it could be worth chancing the returning DRAGON SPIN. The daughter of Ardad ended her juvenile campaign with a runner-up effort at Nottingham and a 1lb ease in the ratings may prove lenient. Runamara and Beach Partee are others of interest.

Solar Invincible and Luna Beaux are respected but there could be a fair bit more to come from BELIEVEINMENOW as a 3yo.

With cheekpieces retained and a tongue-tie added, the Ted Walsh-trained STICWITHTHEPROCESS can land a second course success. Off the mark here in a maiden hurdle in November, the son of Blue Bresil gave the impression that he had more to offer. Far from disgraced when third at Punchestown subsequently, the six-year-old can be forgiven a below-par run in a messy race at this venue on his latest start. C&D winner Don Jefe could prove to be nicely treated off an initial mark of 113. The five-year-old had shown promise on his previous outing at Cork and came forward from that to win readily. Fellow handicap debutant Frankie's Freebie could also run well.

The way in which ROYAL SOLDIER powered clear in the closing stages at Gowran suggests he should relish this longer trip

TREAD CAREFULLY was second at Southwell two starts ago and had yet to be asked a question when unseating his rider four out at the same venue subsequently. On that evidence, the five-year-old could be hard to beat with a clear round on this occasion. Emerald Breeze has made the frame in all three hurdles starts to date and is likely to be in the mix once again, while Ade Boy is next best.

Emerald Breeze should benefit from this step up on trip and is not opposed lightly but TREAD CAREFULLY probably has the best form.

Delgany Deadline has improved with each outing over fences, culminating in a triumph at Leicester 40 days ago, and a 5lb higher mark is unlikely to prevent another bold display. However, SWEET NIGHTINGALE was more taking when landing the spoils at Exeter recently and she may be able to shrug off a 7lb rise. Ballyfinn continues to slide down the ratings and shouldn't be underestimated.

Slight preference is for DELGANY DEADLINE who won at Leicester in spite of a late mistake and the cheekpieces are working well.

KIMI DE MAI finished third in an ultra-competitive handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival in February and should get off the mark over hurdles here. A three-time French bumper winner, she has been slightly frustrating to follow since joining Willie Mullins, but has bumped into some capable types and a reproduction of her Leopardstown effort would see her take all the beating. Crystal Gold has some useful form and can finish second, while Courtmac Gesture has also been running quite well.

Rated 121, Kimi De Mai sets the standard but all her best form is on testing ground so she is taken on with TOUNTINNA.

FRENCH AFFAIR made a pleasing comeback when a head second to an in-form rival at Kempton last month and Richard Hannon's gelding merits plenty of respect with the benefit of that outing under his belt. Colori Forever showed plenty of ability as a juvenile and was second off this mark when last seen in October. Henry Halflight edges out Loblolly to be best of the rest.

The son of Lucky Vega is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Balty Boys and he will take all the beating if possessing similar ability. Jack Channon is another whose yard is in fine fettle and market support for Innichen would be interesting, with Wait Geordie the pick of the remainder.

Paper View represents the Hannon team that took the Brocklesby but WAIT GEORGE has a sharper pedigree and he is preferred.

Having been forced to miss Cheltenham, the Willie Mullins-trained LEADER D'ALLIER can get his season back on track. A five-time winner in his native France, the gelding finished second on his Irish debut over Christmas at a time when the stable wasn't firing on all cylinders. An impressive scorer at Punchestown next time, the five-year-old was fancied for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle before being forced to skip that race. Stablemate Too Bossy For Us might put it up to the selection. A 90-rated horse on the Flat, he ran well when sixth in the Supreme. Blake can make his presence felt if first-time cheekpieces eke out further improvement.

Several of these have more jumping experience than LEADER D'ALLIER, but he has the potential to win a race of this standard

BY THE GRACE got off the mark under this rider at Hereford a month ago and a 3lb rise may not be enough to stop her from going in again. That said, De Deli Counter was a promising third at Sedgefield last time and may improve with first-time cheekpieces now applied. The recent Southwell third Fine As Wine completes the shortlist.

There should be more to come from FINE AS WINE, who was placed on her handicap debut and appears to be heading in the right direction.

GOODWIN FACE lost little in defeat when finding only a rival at the beginning of his resurgence too strong here last May. A 1lb nudge up the ratings looks lenient and the six-year-old could be poised to open his account on his comeback. Although Pottersmattyeeehaa could only muster a fourth-placed effort at Huntingdon, that looked a decent race for the grade. Matt Crawley's charge is feared most, ahead of Shalfa.

Five-time Flat winner SHALFA could provide the answer if the ground is drier here than on her handicap debut at Wincanton.

SAINTE LUCIE met trouble at Cheltenham and drops in grade. The five-year-old had been well held in handicaps prior to last month's Martin Pipe, but performed better than her seventh-placing as she raced wide and got stopped more than once in the home straight. She has finished ahead of unexposed stablemate Larzac before and her rider is able to utilise his 5lb claim today. Larzac disappointed in a race which is working out nicely in December, but debuts in handicaps. Coyote Spirit is another to note.

Having returned to form and been unlucky not to have finished closer in the Martin Pipe Hurdle at Cheltenham, SAINTE LUCIE can score.

Preference is still for DANGEROUS TOUCH, who was second that day and makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. The lack of a recent run is a concern for Achille Des Rocs, but he remains one to be interested in.

Sea Thrift made the most of a small-field affair at Southwell and she merits respect given her record over fences. A 6lb rise does demand more of her and it could be worth taking a punt on ANGEL'S DREAM. The eight-year-old was going OK when making a bad mistake at the fourth-last over C&D and he may surprise. Away For The Night is a feasible alternative.

This is such a weak race that SEA THRIFT must have every chance of making it 3-5 over fences. She'll keep things simple out in front.

Although both are progressive and the latter benefits from Toby Moore claiming 7lb, it will be no surprise if Karl Burke's filly upholds the form. OLDSCHOOL OUTLAW can land a valuable pot in Gordon Elliott's quest for a first trainers' championship. Runner-up at Cheltenham last month, the Walk In The Park mare had a number of these rivals in behind. Almost certainly inconvenienced by the drop back in trip on that occasion, the six-year-old should relish this longer distance. A well-beaten second behind Oldschool Outlaw here in February, Place De La Nation got much closer last time. Another who enjoys a thorough test, she would have strong claims if this turned into a war of attrition. Zanoosh looks a gradual improver and could have yet more to offer.

KALLY DES BRUYERES could only manage fourth when fancied to supplement a Huntingdon triumph on his chasing debut at Taunton. That experience won't be lost on him, though, and he is comparatively well treated in this sphere. Forsa Bay went some way to putting a Sedgefield disappointment behind him when making the frame at Hereford and is slipping back to an attractive mark. A change of scenery could spark some life back into Gower Prince.

Free-going front-runner GOWER PRINCE makes his stable debut from a very tempting mark and might be worth chancing.

A change of tactics saw MONDO MAN get off the mark over hurdles in a facile manner over C&D on his penultimate start. Another cosy success followed as favourite in the Imperial Cup at Sandown and this progressive five-year-old, who was fourth in a red-hot handicap at Ascot just before Christmas, is very much the one to beat. Serious Challenge, Helnwein and Indemnity form the main body of opposition and are feared in that order.

The likelihood of a strong pace heightens interest in HELNWEIN (nap) who will travel deep into the race. He was unlucky last time.

NOWWHATDOYOUTHINK is progressive and receives 12lb from top-weight Classic Getaway. The Ray Hackett-trained seven-year-old has notched wins in a point-to-point, bumper, maiden hurdle and beginners chase and ran well to finish second in a Grade 3 at Thurles. In that smart contest, the well-supported Jalila Moriviere finished third and Soldier In Milan was a notable fourth. Classic Getaway is a quality performer on his day, but was flattered by his proximity to winner Impaire Et Passe in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran as that race was slowly run. Dublin National winner Promontory has a little to find on ratings.

HOLLY MIST proved to be unsuited by a slowly-run 7f when she failed to justify favouritism at Kempton. Doing her best work when it was all too late and with better evidently expected, stepping up to 1m could be just the ticket for the daughter of Dark Angel. A four-time C&D winner, Marry The Night commands respect back at his favoured venue after things went awry in a rough race at Wolverhampton. Dream Illusion also goes well here and must be taken seriously.

The safest option looks to be MARRY THE NIGHT whose record over C&D reads 2211511.

COLOURBAND got closest to exciting prospect King's Trail at Kempton and the winner has franked the form since. The son of Iffraaj sets the standard and this could be a nice confidence booster before he goes handicapping. Baltic Fleet won a maiden at Yarmouth in a game manner when last seen and also merits close inspection. Cape Fear is another with bags of scope to consider.

This appears to rest between just the Yarmouth 1m1f winner BALTIC FLEET and form pick Colourband.

COME WALK WITH ME catches the eye towards the foot of the weights. His trainer Edward Cawley is one of the sponsors on this card and the seven-year-old will almost certainly have been campaigned with the meeting in mind. Runner-up at Leopardstown last month, the Walk In The Park gelding had run over hurdles on his previous start. With only the three runs over fences, he remains open to plenty of improvement and looks a serious contender. Shuffle The Deck is well handicapped over fences relative to his hurdles mark and has reached the frame on his latest two appearances. Break My Soul, who ran a huge race at the Cheltenham Festival, holds leading claims too.

Gavin Sheehan seems to get the best out of KALKAROO, but Sam Twiston-Davies is a more than able replacement and Billy Aprahamian's in-form five-year-old can go one better than he did over C&D last month. He was a position and more than four lengths ahead of Bunker Bay there and has most to fear now from Diesel Line, who has been freshened up since ending a successful first stint for the Pogsons with a solid Doncaster fourth.

Clear second to a heavily backed rival here last month, KALKAROO (nap) can go one better and record his second C&D win of the year.

SUPERSTYLIN is on a roll and can follow up his latest win at Fontwell, despite a 4lb rise. Chris Gordon's consistent nine-year-old has scope to improve over the trip and the fitting of cheekpieces could be instrumental in further success. Sanitiser is open to progression regarding distance too and, having also won two of his last three starts, must be taken seriously. Next best is Inca De Lafayette, who has less to prove than Person Of Interest.

Superstylin is hard to knock and perhaps the most solid option, but INCA DE LAFAYETTE may have more to offer over fences.

WINGMEN was well held at Cheltenham, but had previously bumped into some high-class rivals and is capable. Twice placed at Grade 1 level over hurdles, the eight-year-old finished behind high achievers Final Demand, Predators Gold and Kaid d'Authie in beginners chases and while slightly disappointing in a big-field handicap at Cheltenham, he is generally dependable. Principal rival Funiculi Funicula was himself Grade 1-placed last April and while he has run well in beginners chases, he finished a little further behind Final Demand than the selection last May. Ocastle Des Mottes and Mister Pink are long absent.

This looks to be a match between FUNICULI FUNICULA and Wingmen, preference is for the former who may be better suited to this trip

Having made a satisfactory fifth-placed handicap bow at Wolverhampton, JOHN GALT should find this switch back to novice company to his liking. This is arguably the four-year-old's easiest assignment to date and he gets the nod. Joyful Lawyer posted his best effort when fourth at Chelmsford and is a potential improver now stepping up further in distance, although Desert Belle opened with a second at Lingfield and rates as the biggest danger.

John Galt has fair form at 1m4f but the suspicion is that DESERT BELLE and/or Pure Moon will take his measure.

As a previous course winner who has been in good form on the all-weather, The Dark Baron is a logical danger, while Little Miss India and Law Supreme are other live contenders.

Darvel has a fine reappearance record here but TRIBAL RHYTHM is back to last April's winning mark. Law Supreme is second choice.

Unbeaten in three starts over fences, the Fergal O'Brien-trained gelding was a smart horse over hurdles last season. A front-runner who is proven on a right-handed track such as this, he has plenty in his favour if anywhere near his best form. Galway Plate winner Western Fold struggled at Cheltenham, but had earlier finished second in a Grade 1 at the DRF. Black Eddy has had wind surgery since coming up well short in a Listed race won by Bass Hunter at Ascot and he can't be written off just yet. Thanks to his previous Chepstow victory, he does have to concede weight all round and maybe KILDARE D'IRLANDE can take advantage because the 90,000-pound recruit from the point-to-point ranks got closest to a smart prospect at Huntingdon and can take a step forward. Taranis Dubh also tasted success between the flags and commands attention too.

Another chance can be given to BLACK EDDY, who looked very promising when winning on his debut and probably had excuses last time.

RUKAANA didn't do much wrong when he finished a close-up third at Kempton and, from the same mark, he must have every chance of extending his run of good form. Ephyra commands respect on the back of her best effort yet over hurdles, while Eliza Dolittle and Washington Singer don't have much to find to make their presence known. Market House is fit from the Flat and could also have a big say.

This looks tricky but new cheekpieces could be a significant addition for WASHINGTON SINGER and he's worth chancing.

HARRY'S DIAMOND makes a belated debut aged six, but has a fine pedigree and represents Willie Mullins. Closely related to three black-type performers, she is from a quirky but talented family who often tend to race keenly and she will be ready for her debut. Lemmy Caution was well held at Fairyhouse but has nice ability, while the ex-Ted Walsh inmate Ellis Redding defeated a current stablemate and recent hurdle winner to land a Punchestown point-to-point in February. Too Hot To Trot finished second for Ciaran Fennessy on his November pointing debut and has joined leading connections.

Not a particularly strong bumper and HARRY'S DIAMOND may be good enough to win on debut. The market will be informative about her.

The refitting of blinkers seemed to work the oracle for last month's C&D winner Yakhabar and he's likely to prove dangerous if a replacement visor can keep him sweet. Regardless, JACK ANDREA scored a shade cosily here recently and rates as a more solid proposition on just his third outing for trainer John Butler. Fellow last-time-out winner Lednikov and the down-in-class Arth's Gold are also worth a second look.

Six-time course winner LEDNIKOV is up 8lb, but he may not face much pace pressure if reverting to his usual forcing tactics.

Volendam has been running well on the all-weather, but she remains a 17-race maiden and is passed over in favour of CIOTOG. Mark Loughnane's veteran has also been kept busy this winter, but he has a fine record over C&D and will relish the return to turf. Baynoona became something of a Bath regular last year and is interesting on her reappearance, and Villalobos knows his way around this track too.

This is just the second time CIOTOG has run in 0-55 company. He's preferred to Havana Club, who's down to a career-low mark.

A late defection at Cheltenham, WRAPPEDUPINMAY can gain some form of compensation. The Sam Curling-trained gelding had been well touted for the Festival on the preview circuit, but was forced to miss out due to unsuitable ground. At his best with plenty of give, connections of the eight-year-old will be praying that the heavens open in the hours leading up to this race. A smart horse under Rules in his prime, Hunters Yarn has done little wrong in this sphere. Runner-up on his last two starts, he has to be respected. Big Interest has a bit to prove at this stage, but shouldn't be discounted.

PORT NOIR passed the century mark for appearances back in November and has shown no signs of slowing down. She failed in her hat-trick mission at Wolverhampton, but bounced straight back at Kempton and won't go down without a fight. Oasis Sunrise didn't take to hurdling, but was largely consistent throughout her last Flat campaign so must be respected. Pessoa is more effective on an artificial surface, but still has to enter the equation.

Plenty with claims, headed by SHARMA D'AMOUR, who represents an in-form yard and shaped well on her comeback in a race not run to suit.
