LTO Selection:

13:15 Doncaster Maiden (Class 2) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Circe shaped with promise to finish third on her racecourse bow at Sandown at the beginning of the month and is expected to have benefited from that experience. That said, she faces a whole host of interesting newcomers, with the vote going to STIFLING. A full-sister to Holloway Boy, who landed the Chesham on his first start, she makes plenty of appeal for top connections. Similar comments apply to Morning Light, Shakeela and Lasting Love in a contest that is likely to throw up plenty of winners in the future.

CIRCE showed plenty when third at Sandown on debut and can put that experience to good use up against mostly newcomers. Stifling and Morning Light represent top stables so make the most appeal of the debutantes before market clues.

Circe (second choice) sets a good form standard but preference is for the Ralph Beckett-trained newcomer MORNING LIGHT.

3.5/1(+0%)
(8) Lockdown Lass 3.5/1, C&D winner in mid-July before following up at Doncaster 8 days later. Has been in the placings on all 3 starts since (runner-up the last twice) so she's one to consider.
Progressed in recent times, including two soft-ground wins in July; goes on the shortlist.
2
2nd (2) Agnes Grey (5/1 +29%)
Agnes Grey

5/1(+29%)
(2) Agnes Grey 5/1, Ran best race to date when fifth on handicap debut at Thirsk (7f, good to soft) on penultimate start but unable to replicate that back in novice company at Catterick (7f, good) since. Dropped 6 lb and well berthed in stall 1, a better showing could well be in the offing.
Looking exposed now but the return to slower ground won't hurt and she's drawn in stall 1.
3
3rd (1) Exigency (6.5/1 -63%)
Exigency

6.5/1(-63%)
(1) Exigency 6.5/1, Long time since tasting success (for previous yard in France) but has signalled her turn may be close recently, runner-up at Bath and Leicester last month. Nudged up 1 lb but merits plenty of respect in her current mood.
Has found her level again now; may be dropped in this time from stall 9; player.
4
4th (7) Hoof It Hoof It (12/1 -33%)
Hoof It Hoof It

12/1(-33%)
(7) Hoof It Hoof It 12/1, Has dropped markedly in the weights and with a first-time tongue tie on, confirmed her return to something like the pick of her 2-y-o form when runner-up at Haydock (7f, good to firm) 7 days ago. In the shake-up provide the equipment works just as well.
More competitive lately but she's drawn in 10 today and is unproven on soft ground.
5th
5th (4) Carlton And Co (6/1 +40%)
Carlton And Co

6/1(+40%)
(4) Carlton And Co 6/1, Belatedly off the mark at Newcastle in August and has shaped as if still in good form on both starts since, her usual patient tactics putting her at a disadvantage at Carlisle (6.9f, good) just over 2 weeks ago. In with mix with a claimer taking off a valuable 7 lb.
Arrives in form and is well drawn this time, so needs considering.
6th
6th (3) Liberty Mountain (3.5/1 +0%)
Liberty Mountain

3.5/1(+0%)
(3) Liberty Mountain 3.5/1, Has hit the crossbar on her last couple of starts, ridden with a bit more patience than is usually the case when going down by a head at Wolverhampton (7.2f) a fortnight ago. She remains of serious interest in this similar contest.
Ran well on soft ground early last month; well drawn and there are reasons for optimism.
7th
7th (9) Glory And Gold (150/1 -127%)
Glory And Gold

150/1(-127%)
(9) Glory And Gold 150/1, Fair winner at 7f for William Haggas at 3 yrs but yet to beat a rival in 4 of starts for present yard this season. Heaps to prove at present.
String of poor efforts for her new yard this year and can't be recommended.
8th
8th (12) Independent Beauty (33/1 -32%)
Independent Beauty

33/1(-32%)
(12) Independent Beauty 33/1, Long-standing maiden who ran creditably from 1 lb out of the weights after 4 months off when third at Carlisle (6.9f, good to firm) 23 days ago. Needs to build on that effort from even further out of the weights here.
Has had any number of chances and is out of the handicap this time.
9th
9th (5) Thewaytothestars (9/1 +10%)
Thewaytothestars

9/1(+10%)
(5) Thewaytothestars 9/1, Won at Ffos Las (7f) and Windsor (1m) last month. Possibly couldn't cope with a quick turnaround when only fifth at Ffos Las next time but quickly back on song when third at Chepstow (7.1f, good) 18 days ago. Widest draw tempers enthusiasm, however.
Cheekpieces have helped; tends to race on the sharp end, though, so stall 13 is an issue.
|U|
|U| (10) Second Collection (66/1 -32%)
Second Collection

66/1(-32%)
(10) Second Collection 66/1, Has made no impact in a trio of starts at Wolverhampton this year, latest after 7 months off. This a rare go beyond sprint trips and she can only really be watched.
Ages since she ran beyond sprint trips; well held latest, when back from a break.
10th
10th (13) Pink Walls (200/1 -203%)
Pink Walls

200/1(-203%)
(13) Pink Walls 200/1, Looks limited on early evidence, tailed off over a markedly longer trip at Wolverhampton (12.2f) when last seen 5 months ago. Stall 12 to contend with here so can only be watched.
Five poor efforts over various trips to date and returns from five months off today.
11th
11th (11) Miss Willows (9/1 +55%)
Miss Willows

9/1(+55%)
(11) Miss Willows 9/1, Beaten a fair way on most of her 6 career starts so far and looks vulnerable from a win point of view back in handicap company.
The hood comes off (she has pulled hard more than once) and she'd be a surprise winner.
LTO Selection:

13:35 Chester Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Many have chances and while the likes of Lockdown Lass, Exigency and Thewaytothestars all have solid claims based on the pick of their form, their starting positions from the stalls could well compromise their chances. Therefore, it may be worth siding with LIBERTY MOUNTAIN, who is versatile regarding her style of running and, from stall four, she could be hard to peg back if she can amass an early lead.

A competitive opener to Autumn Festival Friday and one that makes plenty of appeal is LIBERTY MOUNTAIN, who has hit the crossbar on her last couple of outings and, nicely berthed in stall 4, Joseph Parr's 3-y-o is fancied to deservedly open her account for the season. Lockdown Lass has also finished runner-up on her last 2 starts and she may have to settle for silver once again, with Exigency and Carlton And Co another pair who can get involved.

Free-going LOCKDOWN LASS (nap) has been consistent and will hopefully get a good pace to track. Liberty Mountain is second choice.

Cruised to victory on recent debut at Kempton and remains to be seen where limitations lie.
LTO Selection:

13:50 Doncaster Listed (Class 1) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

WAR ROOMS made a bright start to his career in a C&D novice in July on soft ground and, with conditions likely to be similar on this occasion, Owen Burrows' colt gets the vote to handle a step up in class. Local Hero caught the eye with a taking display at Kempton on debut and would be an obvious threat if able to cope with the ground. If that isn't the case, perhaps the main danger could be Dancing Gemini, who got off the mark at Newbury and appeals as the type to improve with racing.

A decent renewal with all bar one a last-time-out winner. WAR ROOMS produced a highly promising effort when making a winning debut under similar conditions over C&D in July so shades the vote over Local Hero, who also made a taking debut at Kempton. Dancing Gemini and Gushing Gold are just a couple of other potential dangers.

The Owen Burrows-trained WAR ROOMS powered clear to win on soft ground over C&D on his debut in July and he's taken to make it 2-2.

Has a lot to find on the form of his third at Bath but should be wiser this time.
LTO Selection:

14:05 Sandown Maiden (Class 4) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

COVER POINT failed to make an impact in Listed company at York last month, but William Haggas' colt sets the standard down in class and is fancied to strike at the fourth time of asking. South Shore finished second to a promising sort on his debut and ought to go close with improvement on the cards. Nazron and Ziggy's Missile can battle it out for the minor honours.

SOUTH SHORE shaped well on his first run when runner-up at Ripon and can improve sufficiently to deny Cover Point who holds the edge on form and rates a big threat dropped back to maiden company. Nazron is proving a consistent sort and can't be discounted either.

It's unlikely that COVER POINT gave his true running in a Listed race at York having previously pushed a horse of that calibre close.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Just a length separated TERRATINO FIRE (fifth) and It's Not Risky (third) when they met in a novice here 13 days ago and given the former made a hash of the start and has a 4lb pull under the terms of this race, the Hugo Palmer-trained gelding is fancied to reverse the form. Berkshire Nugget is entitled to be wiser after last month's Newmarket debut, while Our Havana also commands respect.

Despite being caught rather isolated from the highest stall at Newmarket on debut, BERKSHIRE NUGGET still displayed plenty of ability to finish fourth and, now expected to take a big step forward, Andrew Balding's colt gets the verdict to come out on top. Hugo Palmer saddles It's Not Risky and Terratino Fire, and with the former holding an experience edge and being much better drawn, he can chase the selection home, with Land Lover rounding off the shortlist. .

Andrew Balding's BERKSHIRE NUGGET receives the vote over a noteworthy Our Havana after posting an encouraging Newmarket debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

NT FIELD MINNESOTA kicks on over hurdles now having been turned over at a short price on her 'track' debut at Tramore. The Flemensfirth mare was no match for Grannys Yaris at the business end last month but may do a bit better now tackling jumps. She was a point-to-point winner at Dromahane in April. Gone For Tea looks an obvious contender having won a bumper at Bellewstown at the end of last month but has a winner's penalty to carry for that success. Bayonetta was narrowly denied here on her penultimate outing and has been consistent so she's another for the shortlist.

NT FIELD MINNESOTA failed to measure up to market expectations on her Rules debut in a Tramore bumper last month, but she may well be seen in a better light now tackling hurdles. Willie Mullins' charge is marginally preferred to Fathom Five, who didn't do much wrong when third in a C&D novice recently and he needs considering. Gone For Tea is worth a second look given what he showed in bumpers, while Bayonetta is also shortlisted.

The sole bumper winner in the field GONE FOR TEA can make a winning start over hurdles, chiefly at the expense of Fathom Two

BIG EVS found life much tougher against older rivals in the Nunthorpe at York last month, but Mick Appleby's colt, who had shown a hugely likeable attitude when winning at both Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, is taken to bounce back on this occasion. The drop back to 5f is likely to benefit Kylian, who had finished third to the selection in the Molecomb prior to not appearing to get home in the Gimcrack. Inquisitively and Flora Of Bermuda complete the shortlist.

BIG EVS's no show in the Nunthorpe at York can be easily forgiven and he's taken to add another big prize back against his own age group having already won the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and the Molecomb at Glorious Goodwood. Inquisitively was behind the selection at Ascot but he looked a smart prosect when scoring at York subsequently and rates a big threat if handing the ground, with Flora of Bermuda and Kylian others to consider.

There was a lot to like about the performance of FRANCIS MEYNELL when he was a cosy winner on his recent debut at Navan.

Recon Mission continues to run well in defeat and must firmly enter the reckoning now 2lb below his last winning mark, though preference is for DEVIL'S ANGEL. The son of Dark Angel bounced back when finishing second to a well-handicapped rival at Redcar, who has subsequently hit the woodwork from 5lb higher. Jedd O'Keefe's charge is similarly well treated and he can go one better today. Others to note include Four Adaay and Imperiousity.

IMPEACH took a big step back in the right direction when a debut third for Michael Attwater at Goodwood and can capitalise on a reduced mark now to gain a first turf success. In-form C&D winner Devil's Angel rates a big danger however, with the reliable Four Adaay and C&D scorer Recon Mission both in the mix too in a competitive sprint.

After a return to form at Redcar last month DEVIL'S ANGEL is taken to enhance his fine C&D record at the main expense of Four Adaay.

14:45 Chester Handicap (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

GLENDOWN made all when he got off the mark in a handicap at Ripon in July and repeat of those tactics could be instrumental in the three-year-old doubling his career tally here. He was a fast-finishing second at Beverley recently and, off just 1lb higher, he could be hard to peg back. Tellus has been cut some slack by the handicapper and is feared dropping back in trip, while Captain Cuddles is also considered.

CAPTAIN CUDDLES got back on the up when placed at Ascot and Newbury this summer and, having met interference on his latest run, he can return to winning ways dropped back to 6f. Pocket The Packet ran one of his better races on turf last time and could be the main danger, with River Usk also considered having made the frame here on his penultimate start.

The well-drawn CAPTAIN CUDDLES shouldn't mind the drop to 6f, back on slower ground, and looks the best option in a tricky handicap.

GWAN TADHG was unlucky to bump into a massive gamble in Anyway on his last visit here but has been an easy winner himself since and could grab another victory back at this course. The Frozen Fire gelding had won over course and distance last month before finishing second back here just over a fortnight later. Only two days after that he won with ease at Bellewstown and the progressive six-year-old is fancied to defy a 8lb hike for that victory. Invictus World won over two-miles-five here on his penultimate start and ran well when dropped back in trip at Down Royal on his handicap debut. He could be a danger. Como Park was a promising fourth on his hurdling debut at Navan. He hasn't really built on that in two starts this summer but could make an impression now trying handicap company.

Dual Flat winner COMO PARK has displayed promise in a trio maiden hurdles since joining this yard and he is taken to make a winning handicap debut in this sphere. Gwan Tadhg has been in good form since returning from a break last month and is greatly respected, while Gladiatorial is also shortlisted. Fassbender could also feature, provided he is able to build on his latest effort here.

This looks competitive for the grade but COMO PARK could be in a different league having shaped with promise in maiden hurdles

15:00 Doncaster Group 2 (Class 1) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

COLTRANE regained the winning thread in the Lonsdale Cup at York in August and the six-year-old is fancied to defy a 3lb penalty and complete a double here. The two-time Group 1 winner Trueshan hasn't looked at his best in two appearances this season, but a subsequent wind procedure may bring about an improved bid from the popular gelding. The progressive Sweet William was narrowly denied in the Ebor last time and should have more to come.

COLTRANE has been most consistent in top staying events in the last 18 months or so and is taken to land a second successive win in this, although, in receipt of weight, Trueshan (who has had wind surgery) and Broome have the potential to make life very difficult for him if bouncing back to anything like their best form.

Last year's winner COLTRANE looks a more solid candidate than his old rival Trueshan. Sweet William is feared most.

15:05 Ballinrobe Maiden Hurdle 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

GOLDEN TEMPLE was reasonably capable on the flat and has hurdling experience. His flat form is at middle-distances and while well held on jumps debut here last month, the runner-up won subsequently and this looks winnable. Expelliarmus has caught the eye on the flat and while unexposed and likely to prove best of these in time, might benefit from today's jumps debut. An Breadan Feasa's dam is a half-sister to high-class hurdler Kalashnikov and is capable of improving from an encouraging Navan flat debut. Giselles Defence has middle-distance form but needs to improve with and softening ground not being ideal. Pigeon House has jumped left on occasions in two hurdles todate and needs to improve on his Killarney run.

EXPELLIARMUS failed to meet expectations on her most recent Flat outing, but there's every chance she'll take to this discipline being closely related to useful 2m hurdle winner Common Practice, so she earns the vote. Golden Temple sets the standard on his run here last month, albeit not a high one, while An Bradan Feasa needs considering, too.

The refitting of blinkers on GOLDEN TEMPLE is significant and he's entitled to improve from his creditable hurdling debut at this track

15:15 Sandown Maiden (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Ollie Sangster has enjoyed a fruitful start to his training career, so Awtaad filly Pure Of Heart merits respect with that in mind, but the vote goes to STRUTTING. The 425,000gns purchase, a daughter of Frankel, can provide the Gosdens' with another juvenile winner, having struck at Leicester on Tuesday. Ralph Beckett can do little wrong at present, though Frankelian (fifth) will need to progress if she is to reverse the form of her debut run with Our Golden One (third).

FRANKELIAN is bred to be above average and is set to learn plenty from her debut at Goodwood, so she's narrowly preferred to Our Golden One, who also shaped with encouragement first time out. Strutting is one of two interesting newcomers.

A chance is taken that FRANKELIAN will have learned plenty from her Goodwood debut when behind the equally promising Our Golden One

15:20 Chester Handicap (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BAEZ has really found her stride this summer and the four-timer looks very much on the cards as she aims to follow up on a determined success at Musselburgh last time out. It may be that her stablemate Two Auld Pals gives her the most to think about, having not finished outside the first two in his last six starts. East End Girl and Tuddenham Green have the form to get involved as well.

TWO AULD PALS is the in the form of his life at present and the step back up in trip has the potential to trigger further improvement, so he's a very appealing candidate. Baez is another who's thriving currently and warrants respect, as does Tuddenham Green, who's proving consistent.

Preference is for WONDERWALL, a pretty useful hurdler who'll appreciate the much stiffer Flat test now he's handicapping.

15:25 Downpatrick Handicap Hurdle 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

MORRICONE showed improvement on better ground at Tramore last month and may be able to land a moderate contest now. The Shantou gelding is still relatively unexposed sort and it was a better performance from him to chase home Boskill Borden last time. No Show opened his hurdling account when scoring down in Wexford a fortnight ago and has to be respected off a 6lb higher mark. Cullenwaine has hinted at some ability and is another that could be open to some improvement.

MORRICONE travelled with purpose and left previous efforts behind when runner-up at Tramore last month, so he's a solid choice to go one better at the possible expense of No Show, a comfortable winner at Wexford a fortnight ago. Resilient Front is a notable handicap debutant if the market vibes are right.

It was a much improved effort from MORRICONE when runner-up at Tramore last time and he looks capable of further progress

15:35 Doncaster Handicap (Class 2) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

BAGUE D'OR lost little in defeat when a fine second on his stable debut in a competitive handicap at York last month and James Ferguson's charge may have enough improvement in him to defy a 3lb rise in the ratings. The Goat receives a handy 10lb weight-for-age allowance as the only three-year-old in this contest, which makes the son of Cracksman dangerous. He could emerge as the chief threat to the selection, ahead of Real Dream, who was too bad to be true in the Ebor last time out.

BAGUE D'OR is a lightly-raced 5-y-o who proved he retains all his ability on first outing for James Ferguson after 13 months off when runner-up at York recently and, with the step back up in trip sure to suit (unexposed at 1¾m), he gets the nod to come out on top. The Goat should find these conditions a bit more suitable than at York and is also of strong interest being the only 3-y-o in the field, while Real Dream remains with potential having been unsuited by a change of tactics in the Ebor.

Bague D'Or is second on the list to THE GOAT, who very much catches the eye if it's soft, given the manner of his win at Goodwood.

LTO Selection:

15:40 Ballinrobe Maiden Hurdle 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

DAME RAPIDE is rated 97 on the flat and ran well in a recent Down Royal maiden hurdle. Her flat rating improved from 45 to 97 in recent times and while her best form is on a sound surface, which is a concern with rain forecast, wasn't beaten too far in a Listed hurdle on easy ground last April and today rider claims 5lb. Letters To Juliet caught the eye at Sligo and while her two runs have been on good ground, has a national hunt pedigree so should handle easy ground. She should progress but the selection is more experienced. Zoomtime showed improvement when finishing second on good ground at Cork and also being national hunt-bred, should cope with easier ground. Nurse Garvey ran ok in an unplaced horses' maiden on her last run while C'est Rien ran well at Tipperary last October but has poor form since. Castle Ruby runs in a first-time cheekpieces.

DAME RAPIDE sets a clear standard, so this looks a good opportunity for her to open her account as a hurdler. Zoomtime and Castle Ruby can battle it out for minor honours.

DAME RAPIDE put up her best hurdles run when second at Down Royal last time. This is a weaker contest and she should score.

LTO Selection:

15:50 Sandown Handicap (Class 3) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

DARK ENCOUNTER appeared to have plenty in hand when getting off the mark at Newcastle a week ago and a 6lb penalty for that success may not be enough to stop him here. Metallo has been highly tried since winning a novice event at Salisbury in June and he has to be respected with his sights now lowered, while I'm Puzzled edges out Shadan Joy to be best of the rest.

DARK ENCOUNTER relished the step up to 1m when going in at Newcastle a week ago and a 6 lb penalty doesn't look sufficient to prevent him from following up. Newcastle-fourth I'm Puzzled appeals as the one to chase home Karl Burke's colt ahead of handicap-debutant Metallo.

Karl Burke's DARK ENCOUNTER has been raised to a mark in line with his penalty but that could still underestimate his rate of progress.

Has his conditions and arrives in form, so should go well again.
LTO Selection:

15:55 Chester Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A tardy start at Newcastle played a major role in EMPEROR CARADOC losing out by half a length and if breaking on terms this time around, he must hold every chance. Paul Midgley's charge has dropped back to 3lb lower than his last winning mark and he is narrowly preferred to Ripon scorer Roundhay Park, as well as Little Boy Blue, who was only beaten a length into second at Chepstow last time out.

The vote goes to EMPEROR CARADOC, who isn't long with his current yard and looks ready to strike again having returned to his best back at this trip at Newcastle last week. Evocative Spark wasn't able to open up fully at this venue on his most recent outing but still passed most of the field, while Beauty Choice is another to consider for all that this represents a step back up in grade.

Down to a career-low mark, RED MIRAGE can bounce back. Evocative Spark is a threat if settling better back up in trip.

LTO Selection:

16:00 Downpatrick Maiden Hurdle 22f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SEA MUSIC could be a bit better than this grade and a mark of 116 doesn't look harsh at all for what is effectively his handicap debut. The Sea Moon gelding looked like a smart sort when winning his maiden hurdle in Ballinrobe over a furlong further. He didn't beat a strong field then but couldn't have done it much better. Howaya C D And E has been knocking on the door and has bumped into a few decent sorts. She should be thereabouts again, providing she jumps off. Ringdufferin chased home hotpot Reverend Hubert in a maiden hurdle here last time and is fitted with cheekpieces now for his handicap debut. Gordon Elliott's charge looks one for the shortlist as well.

LUMINOUS LIGHT was in the process of running a good race when coming down at the last at Ballinrobe last time and is taken to bounce back in style here. Clifftop is weighted to go well so rates the main danger ahead of Sea Music who has the scope for further progress.

LTO Selection:

16:10 Doncaster Handicap (Class 2) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

There's The Door recorded a second success of the season when digging deep to get up in the closing stages at Goodwood last month. However, David Evans' filly does have a career-high mark to overcome now that she is 4lb higher and she might be worth taking on with the unexposed CHERRY. The daughter of Dubawi recently shed her maiden tag in taking fashion at the West Sussex venue and her current mark looks workable. Fellow last-time-out winners Reina Del Mar and Queen Emma also enter the reckoning.

Another small field for this valuable contest and Ralph Beckett looks to hold a pair of aces in CHERRY and Mistressofillusion. The former didn't need to improve to get off the mark in a Goodwood maiden last month and, sure to have plenty more to offer, she gets the nod to make a winning start to life in handicaps ahead of her stablemate, who can continue her progress back at 1½m with first-time cheekpieces applied. Queen Emma gets the nod for third spot.

Preference is for CHERRY (nap), who was only 3l off the Listed Galtres winner before doing it very comfortably at Goodwood.

PENNY JAR was well held on the flat at Galway but is better in this sphere. He completed a hat-trick last year and while beaten on his last two handicap hurdles, nonetheless ran well in both, is ground-versatile and suited by this distance, with today's rider claiming 7lb. Rain is forecast so Whatsyourstatus' plans could be well scuppered again. He is well handicapped over hurdles but needs a sound surface. Ounce of Gold ran well on handicap debut last-time but is 4lb higher while Positive Thinker disappointed at Tipperary on his last run and returns from a mini-break. Tomas O Maille is 1lb ahead of the handicapper followed a recent runner-up effort at Galway but his quick reappearance isn't ideal. Dorans River has been in excellent form but is nonetheless an ageing 13 year old. Conna Cottage was claimed at Sligo last month and debuts for his new owner/rider.

OUNCE OF GOLD ran well considering he was left with plenty to do on his Punchestown handicap debut back in June and there are certainly races to be won with him on that evidence. Whatsyourstatus and Penny Jar head the opposition.

Consistent in defeat over hurdles and on the Flat since rattling up a hurdling three-timer last year, PENNY JAR can score again.

16:20 Salisbury Stakes (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

UNDER THE SUN is presented with a good opportunity to open his account at the fourth time of asking. This is easier than the always-informative Convivial he contested at York last month and considering he was a well-supported favourite that day, his connections can be very hopeful now his sights are lowered. Show Biz Kid did well to finish fourth at Goodwood, while Wonder will have given connections plenty of encouragement with his Newmarket third.

SHOW BIZ KID shaped with plenty of encouragement when fourth in a Goodwood maiden 10 days ago, coming from much further back than the others in the frame, and he can progress from that first effort to get off the mark. Under The Sun is respected as he goes up in trip, while Wonder made a promising debut and completes the shortlist.

Under The Sun sets a good standard but preference is for WONDER, who was an eyecatching third on his Newmarket debut last month.

LTO Selection:

16:25 Sandown Handicap (Class 2) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Silver Samurai bounced back to form at Newmarket last time but faces a much stiffer task off 5lb higher and up in grade here. With that in mind, preference is for AZANO, who put in a promising display when making the frame on his most recent start and a further 1lb drop in the ratings could see him return to winning ways. Atrium and Documenting are both capable of going well if reproducing their best form, while Under The Twilight should not be underestimated.

The vote in this trappy-looking contest goes to UNDER THE TWILIGHT, who returned to form when hitting the crossbar at Windsor where she shaped as though the return to this trip would be in her favour. Likely pace angle Azano will be dangerous if allowed too much rope out in front, while Silver Samurai's confidence may have been boosted by his Newmarket success and he also merits respect, along with Mitrosonfire and Priscilla's Wish.

The prospect of an easy lead heightens interest in AZANO (nap) who has run well now and again this season.

16:30 Chester Handicap (Class 4) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Now two from two on turf, both on soft ground, and fresh from making a successful handicap debut at Epsom last month, BEAR ON THE LOOSE is fancied to defy a 6lb rise under optimal conditions. Pearl Eye must carry a penalty following last Saturday's Haydock triumph, but a step up in trip could unlock further improvement. Promoter is slowly falling down the handicap and he can't be ruled out now eased in class.

BEAR ON THE LOOSE scored nicely on his Epsom handicap debut at the beginning of August and is selected to make light of a 6 lb rise. The likeable Pearl Eye rates an obvious danger under a 6 lb penalty for last Saturday's Haydoock success. George Boughey's Cantora could also play a prominent role if ready to roll after a break.

Pearl Eye isn't opposed lightly but CANTORA boasts a similarly progressive profile and is narrowly preferred back from a break.

16:35 Downpatrick Maiden Chase 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

BONARC has experience over fences and this looks like a nice opportunity for the Arcadio mare who has a chase mark of 105. This race is restricted to horses with a mark of 102 or less over hurdles so it is a nice fit for her and having the mares allowance is a big asset. She was fourth in a similar contest, but for horses rated 116 or less, at Tramore on her penultimate start. This is a nice starting point for Ceanndana over fences as he has a mark of 102 after two wins over hurdles. The Leading Light gelding may just want a bit further than this though. Colonel Bellew is another that has to be respected. The Kingston Hill gelding was placed here over hurdles on his last visit and the yard's horses often improve for going chasing.

WILL YOU WIN came down early at Tramore last time but is taken to confirm her chasing debut promise now at the chief expense of Ceanndana who goes chasing on the back of a Killarney hurdles success. Fellow fencing newcomer Jenny Flex is in good hands and another who merits respect in an open contest.

16:45 Doncaster Handicap (Class 2) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

BARADAR arrives here only 4lb higher in the ratings than when winning the International at Ascot in July and George Boughey's five-year-old is hard to oppose as a result. Lethal Levi has been running well enough in defeat of late and it would be no surprise to see him make the frame off his current mark. The Green Man is another who is likely to be in the mix, while Persuasion and Gweedore complete the shortlist.

Plenty with chances but PERSUASION is fancied to gain compensation for his unlucky recent Haydock second with the booking of Ryan Moore another plus. Baradar handles soft ground really well so is feared most on the back of his International success at Ascot. The Green Man is weighted to have a say too while Lethal Levi is another who needs shortlisting.

Tactical ran with promise at York last time and can go well but PERSUASION has run two fine races this month and gets the nod.

SOMETHING ABOUTHER looked like a mare who would go on to better things when readily beating Ginnets Girl over a similar trip at Punchestown in June. She ran well on handicap debut in a very competitive contest at the Galway festival and can defy a 2lb higher mark. Emily In Paris gets nearly a stone from the selection and Michael O'Sullivan has struck up a good partnership with her. She's on a hat-trick and will appreciate stepping back up in trip after winning at Sligo. Ballybawn Belter has won two valuable handicaps this year including a 2m4f contest at Punchestown in April. Two miles was too short for her last time and she'll be more of a force over this distance.

SOMETHING ABOUTHER wasn't seen to best effect when fifth in a big field at Galway on her handicap debut and can show she's on a good mark now. Handicap newcomers Ginnets Girl, one of 2 for the Gordon Elliott yard, and Deons Diamond arrive on the back of maiden wins and may give the selection most to think about.

A Punchestown maiden hurdle winner over this trip, SOMETHING ABOUTHER ran a fine race at Galway since and can take this.

16:55 Salisbury Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Much depends on how Mitwaa breaks from the stalls, but he has the ability to go well at this level and is respected accordingly. However, he has been raised 3lb after being run out of things near the finish at Newbury last time and is taken on with SHE WORE NO JEWELS, who was just a half-length away in third that day. On marginally better terms, Clive Cox's filly can reverse the form. Nursery debutants Dufresne and Sub Thirteen are also considered.

SHE WORE NO JEWELS showed improved form when third at Newbury on her nursery debut last time, travelling as well as any, so she looks ready to open her account this time around. She can build on that effort to reverse the placings with Mitwaa from when the pair met 17 days ago, with Guns And Flowers the pick of the remainder.

The Newbury nursery in which MITWAA (second) finished just in front of She Wore No Jewels (third) looks the formline to focus on.

17:00 Sandown Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SWISS STAR returned to winning ways at Newmarket on her latest start and the manner of that victory suggested the extra furlong on this occasion would bring about further improvement. Coco Jamboo (second) and Peony (fourth) both performed with credit in a valuable York handicap last month and the pair enter calculations, while Hot Chesnut appeals most of the remainder.

The unexposed SWISS STAR found some improvement when emerging on top in a desperately tight finish at Newmarket, and there's a good chance that this step up to 7f will help spark another step forward. Hot Chesnut looks very dangerous on the back of a near-miss and is next on the list ahead of the consistent Coco Jamboo and Zabbie.

Ed Walker's PEONY might be able to reverse York placings with Coco Jamboo. Swiss Star remains capable of better.

LTO Selection:

17:05 Chester Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Ey Up Its The Boss has been in decent form of late and is unlikely to be far away, but a chance can be taken on GIVE IT SOME TEDDY. Tim Easterby's veteran has often found form at this stage of the campaign and he is attractively handicapped. Stablemate Ugo Gregory drops in class and looks more than capable of throwing down a stern challenge, along with Ciotog, who would have to be of interest if turned out quickly following Wednesday's run at Bath.

SURPRISE PICTURE is refitted with the visor he wore when notching 2 wins for Keith Dalgleish earlier in the year and might be ready to strike for new trainer Grant Tuer after a couple of decent runs last month. Ugo Gregory should find this a bit easier than the Haydock Class 3 he contested last Friday and is second choice ahead of Barging Thru, who is well drawn for a front runner.

Preference is for EY UP ITS THE BOSS who did well after fluffing the start at Thirsk last weekend. Ciotog is a danger.

17:10 Downpatrick Handicap Chase 24f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

CAVE COURT landed a gamble to get off the mark at Perth in August and having followed up over hurdles here subsequently, is now rated 14lb lower reverting to fences. All his best form is over much shorter distances, which is a small concern, but he is nicely ahead of the handicapper. C'Est Quelqu'un has done well for Gordon Elliott recently, is ground-versatile, likes this distance and looks sure to run a good race, although might struggle to beat the selection. The 27-race maiden Gali Flight finished six and a half lengths ahead of Some Dove (now tried in first-time cheekpieces) at Tramore latest and is now 9lb better off, so should confirm superiority. Room To Roam has been running well in similar races, while Agirlcalledchloe is a 20-race maiden but also has placed form at this level.

C'EST QUELQU'UN is making good strides since joining Gordon Elliott and fancied to defy a 9 lb hike in the weights and follow up his recent Tramore success. Cave Court rates the chief threat now reverted to fences on the back of his recent Down Royal victory, with Some Dove and Room To Roam appealing as the pick of the rest for place purposes.

DAPPERLING struggled in two valuable events last month but it would be no surprise to see the Dandy Man filly bounce back here, given that she chased home Relief Rally in the Super Sprint in July. Kingswood Flyer is an obvious threat following his success a Newbury a month ago, although a 4lb rise is a slight concern. Succession edges out Boardroom and Red Zone Hero to be best of the rest.

SUCCESSION is going the right way and would have gone very close to winning (finished clear second) had he not jumped a false patch of ground late at Wolverhampton 8 days ago, so he's worth a chance to gain compensation off the same mark. Kingswood Flyer is also going the right way and looks the main threat ahead of Blue Prince.

Preference is for SUCCESSION, who is 4lb ahead of the handicapper following his clear second at Wolverhampton last Thursday.

17:25 Ballinrobe Maiden Chase 23f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

HAZELHATCH LADY goes over racecourse fences for the first time after winning her last two hurdle starts at Roscommon and Sligo. Second on her only start in point-to-points, she was taken out at Galway on Monday due to soft ground but did win a bumper on 'summer soft' at Wexford last year. Presenting Doyen is also a dual winner over hurdles and chased home the selection at Sligo. A 9lb pull in the weights brings her very much into the reckoning and she also has point-to-point experience. Sarah Beara landed a gamble over hurdles at Wexford before finding one too good under a penalty here three days later. Another with useful form between the flags, she looks progressive and can contend along with Mousey Brown who ran creditably on chase debut at Kilbeggan in July.

While PRESENTING DOYEN needs to bounce back following a poor effort at Killarney 3 weeks ago, she will have every chance of delivering on this chase debut if able to do so.The 5-y-o chased home Hazelhatch Lady in a Sligo novice on her penultimate start and meets that rival on more favourable terms here. Hazelhatch Lady is nevertheless respected given her progressive profile and Paidi's Passion, a winner over timber at Downpatrick recently, also enters the reckoning.

Though HAZELHATCH LADY has 4lb to find with Presenting Doyen on hurdles ratings, she is in the form of her career at the moment.

17:30 Salisbury Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Lahina Bay, Warminster and Fragrance are the only ones with any previous winning form and each commands respect. However, KATAR appeals as one who is potentially well handicapped and, with a tongue-tie and cheekpieces combination tried for the first time, Richard Ford's experienced three-year-old can provide a bit of value off a 3lb lower mark than when he was a close second to Lahina Bay (now 7lb worse off) over C&D in June.

WARMINSTER made a positive start for the Robert Cowell yard when narrowly denied at Yarmouth last month and might be capable of going one better under James Doyle. Lahina Bay won on her previous visit here and rates an obvious danger, while Done Decision brings unexposed potential to this handicap debut.

Warminster is solid enough but handicap newcomers Done Decision, Minack and BAULAC all make appeal in opposition.

17:35 Sandown Handicap (Class 4) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

STRONG IMPACT built on her sole juvenile effort with a brace of runner-up efforts at Newmarket in the spring. The latter occasion came over 1m4f where she was run down by the winner late on, so the drop back in trip is likely to suit the daughter of Saxon Warrior. Born Ruler may have needed her latest run at Chelmsford when returning from a small break and she is capable of further progression. Others to note are Borgi and Gallimimus.

STRONG IMPACT has shaped like there's a bigger effort in her on each of her three starts to date and she's taken to prove herself ahead of a mark of 81 back from a break. Finest Leader is an obvious danger on the back of a solid showing at Kempton and Born Ruler can't be discounted.

The highly progressive FINEST LEADER takes on a fairly exposed bunch and has obvious claims before his 4lb rise takes effect.

LTO Selection:

17:45 Downpatrick NH Flat Race 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

WESTERN FOLD ran really well in Punchestown's valuable Goffs Defender Bumper in April. A 82,000-euro store purchase, he showed real promise on debut and while the form is untested with most of the runners being unraced, it is a traditionally strong race and the eighth-placed horse has since won twice, including a bumper. Wrecking Ballbilly has run well in two good bumpers to date. Runner-up in a fast-run Killarney bumper on debut (from which the third and fourth later won bumpers at the Galway Festival and the Curragh), he failed to concede 4lb to a subsequent winners' bumper victor at Perth. Willie Mullins might have other ideas with Get In Line. By a prominent jumps sire, her bumper-winning dam is a half-sister to two winners and while she represents a yard in unstoppable form, will nevertheless have to go a bit to win. Hypersonic Missile has form but needs to improve.

GET IN LINE is out of a bumper winner and with a yard that dominates this sphere, so she's a confident choice to make a successful start if the market speaks in her favour. Western Fold is the clear pick of those with experience and Wrecking Ballbilly isn't without a chance following a good second at Perth.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

COURTING VICKIE won over 2m4f on winter ground at Clonmel last November and comes into this in good shape after two recent placed efforts. The pick of those was last month's third behind a subsequent winner at Roscommon and she won't mind any further easing of the ground. Confirmed front-runner Rudy Catrail had been in fine form this summer until jumping poorly and weakening tamely at Wexford last time. A winner over further at Roscommon in August, he could easily bounce back and could be hard to catch if stealing a march on his rivals. My Friend The Wind returned from five months off to win over hurdles here at the last meeting and is now rated 6lb higher in that sphere. He went close over fences at Galway last October but has been rather error-prone so far over the larger obstacles.

It might be worth chancing that MY FRIEND THE WIND can keep the mistakes to a minimum as his recent course hurdle success shows he's returned in good form and his near miss in a handicap chase at Galway last autumn shows he is capable over fences. Second choice is Rudy Catrail who had an excuse last time and had been in good form prior to that. Glenmalure Lodge has been knocking on the door over hurdles in recent months and also makes the shortlist.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

This can go the way of CORINTHIA KNIGHT, who bounced back to form with a strong runner-up effort at Chepstow last time out and should be well suited by the prevailing fast ground. The veteran has dropped 14lb below his last winning mark and he may have too much for the in-form Fact Or Fable and On Edge, who did it well over the minimum trip at Chepstow last week.

ON EDGE looked better than ever when coming from well off the pace to land a 5f Chepstow handicap last week and is taken to follow up under a penalty here. He may have most to fear from Gatwick Kitten, who shouldn't be judged too harshly on his latest effort, prior to which he was in good form. Corinthia Knight and Moorgate both make each-way appeal.

Fact Or Fable should give it another good go but CORINTHIA KNIGHT (nap) can confirm the promise of his latest Chepstow second.

LTO Selection:

18:30 Ballinrobe Handicap Chase 17f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

THE EYE OF TULLA has placed form over much longer trips including around here but his sole win came over an extended 2m1f at Limerick in May. He won readily on that occasion and meets the runner-up Berliet Express on only 2lb worse terms so can confirm the placings. Berliet Express is a strong traveller but finds little off the bridle and a first win over fences has continued to elude him despite a string of creditable efforts this year. He was caught up the hill at Downpatrick last month and the easier finish at this venue will suit although connections will be hoping the ground doesn't deteriorate too much. Early Arrival won over hurdles in the spring and wasn't beaten far when sixth in a 2m4f handicap chase at Wexford a fortnight ago. This trip looks on the sharp side but he should be thereabouts in this company.

BERLIET EXPRESS isn't one maximum faith but he has a more solid recent record than most of these and perhaps this can finally be his day over fences. Early Arrival continues to look well treated on hurdle form and is second choice ahead of Itsalonglongroad.

(4) Trawlerman 0.91/1, Smart gelding who took his form up a notch when landing last year's Ebor prior to an excellent third in Group 2 Long Distance Cup on Champions Day on final start. Absent since finishing well held in Dubai Gold Cup back in March but this looks a good opportunity to bounce back.
Won the Ebor last year and has strong claims if he can get back near best after a break.

(2) Ocean Wind 4.5/1, Placed in Group 3 company in spring 2021. Shaped as if retaining plenty of ability when third in 2m Sandown listed race on return in July but well held both starts since, labouring some way out in last month's Ebor at York. Goes back up in trip now but needs to leave that well behind.
Placed in a 2m Listed event on his comeback in July but he's struggled in both runs since.

(1) Berkshire Rocco 2.5/1, Added to his tally at Southwell (16.4f) in January and plenty of solid efforts in defeat subsequently, not least when fifth in a first-time visor (retained here) in last month's Ebor at York. Fact he arrives in good order is a plus and all 3 career victories have come in small fields.
This looks tough on these terms but he's in decent form and could run a big race.
LTO Selection:

18:40 Salisbury Stakes (Class 2) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

A small but select field, and last year's Ebor winner TRAWLERMAN surely sets the standard on both his rating and form. The Gosdens' five-year-old has not been in action domestically since a cracking third behind Trueshan and Coltrane on British Champions Day last October, but he could be a class apart. Ocean Wind made a pleasing return from the sidelines but has since struggled in the Goodwood Cup and Ebor. Berkshire Rocco was well ahead of him on the Knavesmire and should be in the mix if building on that.

TRAWLERMAN has been absent since finishing down the field in the Duba Gold Cup back in the spring, but his exploits last year give him obvious claims in this field and he should prove tough to beat on return. Berkshire Rocco, who arrives on the back of a sound fifth in last month's Ebor, could emerge as the chief threat despite conceding weight all round.

The Gosdens' TRAWLERMAN was a progressive stayer last season and has strong claims if he can get back near his best after a break.

SWITCH FROM DIESEL was well fancied on debut and emerged with plenty of credit when chasing home a Wille Mullins hotpot in a bumper here last month. She only went down by a length and can confirm form with the locally-trained River Robe who was two lengths further back in third. The booking of the very accomplished John Gleeson bolsters her claims. Sharp Object joined John McConnell after finishing second in a point-to-point at Tattersalls Farm in April for Pat Turley. The latter is a good operator and a fine source of winners and the daughter of Diamond Boy merits considerable respect on her Rules debut. Gordon Elliott's Day's A Dawning and Prove Yourself, a half-brother to five Flat winners, are newcomers to note.

DAY'S A DAWNING is from a good family and represents top connections, so she's likely to make a winning start for all that point recruit Sharp Object also looks a big player. Switch From Diesel is the best of those with experience in this sphere, so she can't be ruled out.

LTO Selection:

19:10 Salisbury Stakes (Class 4) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SCENIC may be a maiden after seven attempts, but the form of her Listed third at York on her penultimate start stands out in this winnable contest. The booking of James Doyle can only aid her cause and her experience and recent match practice should help her to see off Eleanor Cross, who is bound to improve for an encouraging introduction at Nottingham which, admittedly, came a year ago. Debut Chelmsford winner Al Anoud can also have a say in proceedings.

SCENIC already has some black type and connections have now found a good opportunity for her to put a win to her name provided she's on her game. Eleanor Cross shaped well on debut, but that was almost a year ago, so it might be that debut-winner Al Anoud emerges as the main danger to the selection.

Ed Walker's SCENIC has some useful form in Listed events this season and should be hard to beat back in a novice.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
