GILLESPIE had a wind problem addressed before he made a winning debut in a bumper at Ffos Las last December. That was a highly encouraging display and, assuming a second wind operation conducted shortly afterwards has ironed out any issues, the Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old could be a key player. Point-to-point recruits Carlenrig, Kastellion and My Own Lovely Lee are interesting prospects to consider in a race where notable hurdles experience is thin on the ground.

An interesting maiden but if ROCKING MAN can run to the level he did in his bumpers then he may be capable of defying his absence.

Thunderstorm Katie, a C&D winner before successfully coping with a 4lb higher mark at Newcastle last week, appeals in her bid to complete a hat-trick. A 5lb penalty could be manageable in her current form, although significant ease in the ground would restrict the enthusiasm. With that in mind, SKI ANGEL, a three-time track-and-trip winner, could be the way to go if the forecast rain arrives. Our Absent Friends and Sir Benedict can also figure from handy draws.

Thunderstorm Katie is second choice behind WEN MOON who is on a good mark and now drops into class 6 company for the first time.

KINGSTON QUEEN's third-placed finish in the Nickel Coin mares' bumper at Aintree's Grand National fixture is a useful piece of form and David Pipe's five-year-old appeals the most on her hurdles debut. Kripticjim was the cosy winner of an Exeter bumper in February and has the potential to kick on in this discipline. Tales Of Bravery, Modern Man and The Moonlight Man all won point-to-points when last seen and merit betting checks.

Not only did KINGSTON QUEEN accrue a nice bit of experience in bumpers but she performed to a smart level.

EAGLE BAY was only two lengths behind a now 79-rated opponent at Catterick. That was a highly encouraging introduction given his obvious inexperience and, as a half-brother to a multiple winner over this trip, he shades preference based on potential. Positive Thoughts built on her first run at Ayr when filling the runner-up berth at Southwell and could have another big say. Clocker and Henriette Ronner also have scope for progression.

Market support should be noted for Silky Lass (second choice) on her debut but EAGLE BAY is selected to get off the mark.

Let's Sail Away has been consistent over fences and warrants close inspection now a tongue-tie has been dispensed with and he reverts to cheekpieces after a visor failed to work the oracle last time out at Kelso. However, HENRY BOX BROWN is a more proven stayer and, favourably treated in comparison to his hurdles rating, this could be a good time to side with the Evan Williams-trained gelding. Chief Black Robe and The Big Reveal complete the shortlist.

Rebecca Curtis won this last season and a chance is taken on MILAN AC, a point runner-up who could improve now tackling fences.

SPORTING HERO has to be of interest dropping into a claimer. It was only in July that he was competing in a quality 5f handicap at this venue (beaten just over five lengths in seventh). He has an excellent record in Dundalk with four victories, including a couple over this trip. Velvet Skies got back to winning ways in a handicap at Navan and has plenty of Polytrack form in Dundalk to advertise his chance. He delivered in a handicap over C&D in March and represents an in-form team. Four-time Chelmsford City winner Agostino has a chance on his Irish debut, while Lismacbryan Hill has place prospects.

Although Dwindling Funds has won six times since late-July, he was held off this mark at Doncaster last time and DOUBLE TIME edges preference. The Tim Vaughan-trained gelding struck from a 9lb higher rating during the summer of 2024 and still looks well treated, despite a 5lb rise for a cosy victory at Kempton last month. Bint Al Karama tends to go well here and also warrants consideration.

The drop back in grade may help DWINDLING FUNDS return to winning ways, while Double Time is respected after his Kempton win.

Having scored a shade cosily on debut in a NH Flat race at Uttoxeter in March, Double Measure must be high on the shortlist. Dan Skelton's charge boasts all the attributes to excel over hurdles and isn't taken lightly, but SWINGIN SAFARI is slightly more compelling. The five-year-old finished last season with a fine fourth in the Grade 2 bumper at the Grand National Festival and that form looks stronger. Came From Nowhere is the pick of those with experience over timber, while The Blue Room cannot be ruled out either.

Fourth in a hot Grade 2 bumper at the Aintree festival on his latest outing in April, SWINGIN SAFARI can make a winning hurdle debut.

WHITE SMOKE could take a bit of beating if adapting to the surface. She holds a rating of 84 and receives weight from all bar one of her rivals. There were excuses when she was a beaten favourite in fifth in Navan and her two runner-up berths in Curragh maidens before that merit plenty of respect. My Cubby Bear drops back in trip on her first visit to Dundalk after weakening into sixth in the closing stages over 7f at the Curragh. She is likely to improve upon that finish. Allsortz has a lot of experience to call upon and, with best finishes of fourth in Fairyhouse and Bellewstown, ought to be involved. Navan third Velvet Reign is another to consider.

Twice runner-up in Curragh maidens, WHITE SMOKE (nap) sets a clear standard here and should be hard to beat off a low weight

If Joe Masseria could get his act together out of the stalls, he would have a major chance. On the evidence of his two starts at Nottingham since joining the Ryan Potter team, though, that is a big 'if' and ENGLISH LADY is the safer option. The Dean Ivory-trained filly has rediscovered her mojo, with a Kempton victory sandwiched by thirds at the Sunbury circuit and Lingfield. Prefer The Sister has dropped to a handy mark, and old-timer Revich showed there is life still in him over C&D a fortnight ago.

The in-form English Lady should go well despite the draw but MR FUSTIC, a C&D winner on a good mark, could be worth chancing.

A switch to more aggressive tactics paid dividends for VELVET WHISPER when making most of the running to score at Nottingham. Ed Bethell's filly had enough in hand to suggest that a 4lb higher mark is surmountable and a double may be in store. Tee Aitch Aye arrives on the back of a never-nearer third over 1m2f at Ayr and looks worth another go over an extended 1m4f. The four-year-old is feared most, ahead of Irish raider Sayidah New Bay.

Velvet Whisper could have more to offer but SAYIDAH NEW BAY shaped well on her handicap debut and could be suited by this trip.

SOBER GLORY completed a rare feat of landing a hat-trick in bumpers last season and he could be one to follow. The five-year-old was a winner of his sole point-to-point and should take all the beating on his hurdles bow. Fellow timber debutant Kadastral impressed when landing a nice purse at Newbury in March and rates as the obvious danger, while Matty's Getaway is entitled to build on last month's return here.

Kadastral and Sober Glory won strong Newbury bumpers last season but MATTY'S GETAWAY may have a fitness edge today.

This could be the day for LOCAL LAD to make the breakthrough. When he began his career with a close fourth in a Group 3 at the Curragh last year behind the top-class Arizona Blaze and Camille Pissarro, you would have got big odds on him being a maiden at this stage. There have been good placed efforts since and he didn't run badly in fourth in a conditions race on the all-weather at Kempton in March. Beautiful Affair has previously shown ability on the Polytrack and Julian Pietropaolo's 7lb claim has her weighted to be competitive against Local Lad. She gets first-time blinkers. Ready To Mingle is related to all-weather winners and is a potential improver.

Better was expected of Venetia at Salisbury and there will be plenty who keep faith in her. Tres Chaud showed some ability in a good maiden at the St Leger meeting, but Charlie Appleby takes the wraps off a fascinating newcomer in the shape of ABASHIRI. The daughter of Frankel is out of a Prix Saint-Alary winner and is a half-sister to English Rose, who landed the Balanchine for the stable last year before going close in an American Grade 1. Crownright and Counter Intuitive are other Frankel first-timers to consider.

Tres Chaud looks the pick of those with experience but the regally bred ABASHIRI is taken to make a winning debut.

OUTRUN THE STORM took a step back in the right direction when making the frame at Redcar and if he can improve just a little more, he might be up to taking top honours. Jkr Cobbler has finished third a couple of times since scoring at Ayr, when he had John L Sullivan back in sixth. The latter won this 12 months ago and is 3lb lower now. Monhammer has been performing well and will surely get his head back in front sooner rather than later.

This looks tricky, with more negatives than positives but maybe MONHAMMER's turn has come round again.

THE KEMBLE BREWERY boasts all the hallmarks of a chaser and shouldn't be judged too harshly on his pulled-up effort in the EBF Final at Sandown in March. The 2m4f may have stretched his stamina and this won't be as competitive. Although Roysse proved too keen on multiple occasions novice hurdling last season, he's certainly not devoid of ability and must enter calculations with his yard in good form, along with fellow chase debutant Ben Solo.

Top of the list is BEN SOLO, a point and course novice hurdle winner who may well improve for fences. The Kemble Brewery is feared.

One Cool Bear showed marked improvement in second over 6f at this track last month. That brings him into contention, although his three previous runs over this trip have seen him finish unplaced so he doesn't come without risk. BADGER'S COVE was claimed after finishing a decent third in a Fairyhouse claimer in September. He tries Polytrack for the first time as he starts out for Denis Hogan and should be at home over this trip. Sup Of Red isn't running badly and has a shot at prize money, while Enthusiastically is a well-bred filly who is tried in new headgear in a bid to spark improvement.

Not too many appeal but perhaps BADGER'S COVE can give an immediate return for connections, having been claimed at Fairyhouse

ELIZA BENNET has picked up her fair share of minor money and is back up a furlong after lacking a change of gear at Newcastle. This appears to be the opportunity James Fanshawe's filly has been waiting for to strike. Southwell fifth Threshold looks to be the main threat on paper, while Anwen has plenty to find based on her two runs to date.

Eliza Bennet has spurned a few opportunities already and could find that THRESHOLD improves past her.

Having landed the second division of the handicap won by the former last time, U SURE DO has the potential to back that effort up after rising just 4lb. Monsieur Kodi has been knocking on the door recently and completes the shortlist along with Glenfinnan.

Having dropped 10lb below his last winning mark, GWEEDORE returns to the scene of his two best efforts this year and gets the vote.

DELGANY DEADLINE took a big step in the right direction when finishing second on his first attempt in handicap company at Ffos Las. Despite a 4lb rise and a drop in trip, Dan Skelton's charge is expected to go one better. Kelijoe benefited from his return to action when filling the runner-up spot at Fakenham. He has to be respected, along with Highbury Hill and Locked Down Lad.

The pick is handicap debutant AWAY FOR THE NIGHT (nap), who moves back up in trip after shaping well in a 2m novice last month.

A very competitive contest for the grade. IRISH RUMOUR is on an appealing mark reverting to Polytrack after being pipped by a nose at Fairyhouse. Wellwhatshappenin stayed on well to win on stable debut over C&D last month and a 5lb rise shouldn't be insurmountable now that he has got his head in front for the first time. Nikki Swango was a ready winner over C&D last week, which led to her being hit with an 11lb hike by the assessor. She travelled well before putting her rivals away, so is one to respect. There is one of these races in Eric Lock, while Nammos is another for the shortlist.

AIGHEAR has bounced back to form recently, with the seven-year-old beaten just half a length when bidding for a third victory in succession at Newbury. Amie Waugh rode the mare to triumph both times at Ayr earlier in the autumn and this appears to be a fine opportunity for her to get back to winning ways. Spooky Wooky chased her home in September and has since placed over C&D, which earns him respect. Quercus Robur and Young Merlin head the remainder.

Aighear may be a starting point to calculations but SPOOKY WOOKY (nap) can take another step forward to get off the mark.

Previously, he ran eight times for Jessica Harrington and it looks notable that her stable jockey Shane Foley, who knows him well, comes in for the ride. Finsceal Annie was a solid second over this trip last week and Declan McDonogh, who has a good record on her, is on board again. Vlhova is in a consistent vein of form, which brings her into the equation, while Darkdeserthighway got back to winning ways over 7f at this venue recently. Everylittlestep isn't out of it on this drop back in trip.

Media Legend wasn't at all disgraced on his first start when fifth over C&D and that experience is likely to have brought him forward. That said, he does face some interesting debutants, with TIGER'S NEST making the most appeal being a half-brother to a Grade 1 winner in the US. Others for the shortlist include the likes of Euston Hall and Dumuji.

The market should be highly informative but at this stage RAJBELLO gets the vote ahead of another newcomer in Breathe Easy.

He has actually won two of his last four races in Dundalk, which is strong form in this contest. First-time blinkers brought about marked improvement in Blackjack Hills, who delivered over an extended mile in Gowran Park. He makes his Polytrack debut and is one to take seriously, especially if strong in the market. Deluca Chop hasn't appeared at this venue for some time but could grab a cheque, while Georg Zhukov should have more horses behind him than in front.

Shiplake has been gelded and steps up from 6f on his first appearance for Kevin Philippart De Foy having placed at Windsor when last seen. The main concern, though, is stall 14 so a chance is given to WARRIOR MODE. Dropped 3lb for his handicap debut effort at Haydock, the cut back to 7f and return to the all-weather both have the potential to see him in a much better light. Huscal and Wild Nature appear best of the rest.

Arctic Dawn looks well in under a penalty but LONGLAI has dropped to a dangerous mark and shaped nicely over C&D four weeks ago.

PORSCHE LAD's three runs in Dundalk read '123' and he could motor his way to another success. It was this trip he won over and he remains on a competitive mark. A good run from Barretstown in the preceding race on the card would bode well for Limestone Red, who finished fourth behind him in September. Sam Coen claims 7lb aboard Kodi Brown, who has been placed in two of her last three races on turf so she is certainly of interest. Jawhary is a longstanding maiden in Ireland but is a contender, while Rising Sky isn't generally beaten overly far and tries a new trip.

A breakthrough win is on the cards for KODI BROWN with Sam Coen's 7lb claim a help in his bid to go one better than at Navan.

Having regained the winning thread over C&D, Coul Angel merits respect given his progressive profile. However, the combination of a rise in class and 6lb penalty leaves him vulnerable and it could be worth chancing INVICTUS GOLD. The son of Invincible Spirit shaped better than the beaten distance suggests at Newmarket's July meeting, with the introduction of cheekpieces a potential source of improvement. Completely Random is also worth a second look.

This is a step up in class for COUL ANGEL but he is progressing well and can defy a penalty. Carbine Harvester may chase him home.

CAMELEY DAYS hasn't looked back since joining Chris Dwyer and a hat-trick could be on the cards. The three-year-old arrives on the back of a ready triumph at Bath and, reverting to the all-weather, is only 4lb higher. Southbank recently landed the spoils over C&D, but a 5lb penalty will make life tougher and a bigger threat may emerge from reopposing second Smasher.

Progressive 3yo CAMELEY DAYS (nap) completed a double at Bath last week and is a big player if she can transfer her form back to AW.

Veraison is likely to prove popular after securing triumphs at this venue and at Wolverhampton, but a 6lb penalty does demand a career-best performance. With that in mind, reopposing runner-up JET BLACK, who is now 9lb better off for their C&D encounter in mid-October, is taken to exact her revenge. Night Tara also arrives in good heart and is a feasible alternative.

Jet Black can reverse C&D placings with Veraison but NIGHT TARA may have the measure of them both back down in distance.
