PRAGNELL figured prominently in his two previous starts under Rules and could come into his own over this longer trip. Having gained experience of this course when a good second last time, this could be an ideal opportunity for the Charlie Longsdon-trained six-year-old. Fellow point-to-point recruit Gaelic Rambler wasn't beaten far when last of three on his Rules deut here last month and can figure with another step forward. Deep Purple commands respect dropped in class for his second run over hurdles.

Several have claims but preference is for PRAGNELL who battled on so well over the extended 2m3f here eight weeks ago.

Paul Nicholls has trained five of the last nine winners of this race and his ZAOCHEN ENKI is the first to consider. This well-related four-year-old was a promising second on his sole start in France before emerging as the ready winner of a maiden on debut for Nicholls at Wincanton last month. A 7lb penalty looks manageable and a follow-up success is a realistic expectation. Inside Man, Sage Green and Golden Echo are others to consider.

The vote goes to ZAOCHEN ENKI, who sauntered to clear to make a winning British debut at Wincanton last month.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

IDEALLKO lurks on a potentially workable rating and could be worth chancing given he gets weight all round. The Evan Williams-trained gelding is versatile regarding distance and, having overcome a couple of mistakes to finish a respectable second over 2m3f here last month, cutting back to two miles could be a good move. Plumpton specialist Alto Alto would also be a key player if he transfers his peak ability to this venue, while Olly Murphy's pair Sao Carlos and El Muchacho shouldn't be underestimated.

Once-smart 11yo ROUGE VIF has a poor record in recent years but comes here fresh and is very well handicapped for his stable debut.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/2 -120%)Western General |
11/2(-120%) | (2) Western General 11/2, Bit in hand landing a handicap by 22l off 127 over 2m at Hereford last time though benefitted from pace collapse; not proven trip; probably bit to come but needs it off revised mark Thriving 7yo who cruised clear for wide-margin win at Hereford last month; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Having routed his rivals once again when scoring at Hereford last month, Western General warrants respect in his hat-trick bid. However, a further 10lb rise demands another career-best performance from Joe Tizzard's charge and preference is for fellow in-form rival SAINT SEGAL. Jane Williams' gelding has posted three creditable efforts in defeat since scoring at Newbury in December and he looks ready to regain the winning thread. Light N Strike is the pick of the remainder.

Habitual front-runner SAINT SEGAL has performed commendably well in some competitive handicaps since his Newbury win in December.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The application of first-time blinkers saw NEW FOUND FAME back in the winner's enclosure at Bangor in February and a short break shouldn't prevent another bold showing. Kerry Lee's charge shouldn't be inconvenienced by a 3lb rise in the ratings and a fourth career victory may beckon. El Curamach ended 2024 with a breakthrough triumph in a maiden hurdle at Warwick and he warrants consideration, along with fellow handicap-debutant Let Me Go Boys.

The suggestion is very unexposed 5yo LET ME GO BOYS, who ended 2024 with two encouraging runs in 2m maidens.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Having justified favouritism over an extended 2m3f here earlier this month, IMPECUNIOUS is one to keep the right side of. The son of Imperial Monarch is a potential improver on this step up in trip and he could make light work of a 4lb higher rating. The biggest threat may emerge from Ri Na Cuirte, who returned to form with a close second over C&D 32 days ago, ahead of Penthouse Poppet.

A return to form among the others is possible but recent evidence points to RI NA CUIRTE (nap), Sawpit Samantha and Impecunious.

Old Park Star was a four-length second at Kempton in February but he needs to improve to win here. Sinchi Roca followed a point-to-point victory with a comfortable success at Taunton but he has to give 7lb or more to all of his rivals, and a chance is taken on ROMANY KING. A point-to-point winner in Ireland and now in the care of Charlie Longsdon, he will be better over hurdles or fences in time but could win a bumper first.

Anthony Charlton's SINCHI ROCA quickened quite stylishly to make a winning rules debut and can overcome his penalty.

Manalishi has place chances on his debut as a son of Malinas related to plenty of bumper winners, and he is well worth a market watch. Lazare Combo won his point-to-point readily enough and is another to consider, but the vote goes to LIMERICK LASS. Fourth on her sole start at Exeter when looking as if she would learn from the experience, the five-year-old could go on from that to get off the mark.

Paul Nicholls' newcomer ZAMEK has the right type of pedigree for bumpers and might be the answer.
Ths is the racecard key.
