1st (4) (4/1 -45%)Strength Of Spirit |
4/1(-45%) | (4) Strength Of Spirit 4/1, Back to winning ways on handicap debut when landing a handicap by a length off a 5lb lower mark at Newbury last time; effective at 7f on a sound surface; retains potential but been off since last summer. Progressive last term; Newbury winner on final start; may still have untapped potential. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 +13%)Vincenzo Peruggia |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Vincenzo Peruggia 7/2, Yard won this last year; tiring when badly buffeted, would have finished closer in Vintage Stakes (Group 2) at Goodwood last time; in good form prior; effective at 7f, acts on good and fast; still a really useful prospect. Thrice-raced as 2yo, winning at Beverley; unexposed and commands respect on handicap debut. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (28/1 -211%)Monoceros |
28/1(-211%) | (3) Monoceros 28/1, Pulled up with something amiss in a nursery at Newmarket latest; effective at 7f on good to firm; has since left Godolphin but early promise worth remembering. Didn't progress after debut win last term; probably best watched on first run for new yard. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (17/2 +15%)Kanishka |
17/2(+15%) | (5) Kanishka 17/2, Ran to form beaten 3/4l off a 1lb lower mark at Southwell last time; cheekpieces first time; effective 6/7f on a sound surface; might be vulnerable in this. Arrives after two creditable runs at Southwell; in the mix in first-time cheekpieces. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (15/8 +32%)Comic Hero |
15/8(+32%) | (6) Comic Hero 15/8, Ran to form up in trip off a break when winning a novice at Kempton by 3/4l last time; trainer in form; effective 6/7f, acts on AW; entitled to come on from return run and more to come now handicapping. Kempton win last time has been boosted; unexposed; interesting candidate on handicap debut. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7/2 +56%)Utmost Good Faith |
7/2(+56%) | (2) Utmost Good Faith 7/2, Outclassed when last of four at Kempton latest; suited by 7/8f, acts on yielding and AW, speed-test suits; races freely but not ruled out back on turf in a handicap. 2-3 for George Boughey but mark has risen and others may have more potential. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

COMIC HERO returned to the fray with a victory in novice company over 7f at Kempton. He could prove to be well handicapped, given he beat a subsequent winner, and this extra furlong should play to the son of Saxon Warrior's strengths. Vincenzo Peruggia represents last year's winning yard and has to be of interest. He beat the reopposing Strength of Spirit in convincing fashion at Beverley last summer and the latter went on to land a nursery at Newbury to give that form a boost.

Vincenzo Peruggia is open to lots of improvement but COMIC HERO is also unexposed and has a run under his belt this year.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (12/1 -60%)Goldmoyne |
12/1(-60%) | (6) Goldmoyne 12/1, Run of race, good attitude back up in trip when landing a handicap by a neck off a 2lb lower mark at Lingfield last time; effective 6-8f, suited by sound surface; on a roll on AW and respected after a small rise down in trip and back on turf. Six AW wins at 6f-1m for this yard; has a very different task now back on turf. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/1 +8%)Royal Zabeel |
11/1(+8%) | (1) Royal Zabeel 11/1, Well below form up in grade when down the field in Riyadh Dirt Sprint (Group 2) at Riyadh most recent; effective 6/7f, acts on sound surface; bit to prove off this mark. Two Listed AW wins (7f/6f); cosy turf winner on good to firm in August; ground query today. |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (12/1 -50%)Persuasion |
12/1(-50%) | (7) Persuasion 12/1, Won this last year; needed run when beaten 5 1/4l in a handicap at Newcastle last time; suited by 7f, acts on any; 1lb lower than 12 months ago and can again go well. Won this on his course debut last year; below that mark now; this should take more winning. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (17/2 -31%)Gweedore |
17/2(-31%) | (5) Gweedore 17/2, Back to best, good attitude when landing a handicap by a short-head off a 3lb lower mark here last time; effective 6-8f, acts on soft and good; competitive mark still and likes this C&D. Strong 7f handicap form when unlucky at Doncaster (soft) in October; solid claims. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (18/1 +10%)Jannas Journey |
18/1(+10%) | (8) Jannas Journey 18/1, Below form up in trip down the field in a handicap at Newbury most recent; top course trainer; effective 6-9f, acts on soft, good and AW; carries head high but drop in trip a plus. Seven wins for new yard in 2025, at 6f-1m;; needs to be better than ever for a win today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Persuasion is 1lb lower than when beating Gweedore (second) in last year's renewal and is not easily ruled out. Not at his best on a trip over to Riyadh in February, Royal Zabeel may well bounce back only 3lb higher than when scoring at Newmarket last summer, but MIDNIGHT GUN makes most appeal. The son of Kingman failed to get his head in front in four starts last term, but a narrow defeat at Doncaster by the recent Lincoln runner-up Rogue Diplomat looks stronger in hindsight, and he gets the vote.

The wide draw needs negotiating but MIDNIGHT GUN has a good deal in his favour on a very good 7f run at Doncaster in October.

Has never won first time out but he has run creditably and is the clear form pick. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +43%)Mount Atlas |
2/1(+43%) | (3) Mount Atlas 2/1, Ran to form despite softer ground when fourth beaten 10l in St Simon Stakes (Group 3) at Newbury latest; trainer in form; suited by 12f, acts on any; respected up in trip on this return. Solid campaign last season but there's a bit for him to prove on this first crack at 1m6f. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (33/1 0%)Kate O'riley |
33/1(0%) | (5) Kate O'riley 33/1, Ran to form when second beaten 1 1/4l in a handicap at Southwell latest; suited by 11/12f, acts on a fast ground and AW; up against it back at this level. More to prove on Flat turf and over new trip, with a big step forward required anyway. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (10/1 -43%)Roaring Legend |
10/1(-43%) | (4) Roaring Legend 10/1, Run of race, ran to form when second beaten 1 1/4l in a handicap at Lingfield latest; effective 14-16f, seems better AW but acts on good to soft and good to firm; in good form and can go well again. Never better than in February; peak turf form not far behind; probably be on the premises. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

AL QAREEM will likely prove a warm order in this grade. Karl Burke's stalwart looked better than ever last season, when recording Group 3 victories at York and Ascot, and the seven-year-old is taken to defy a penalty for the last of those successes in the Cumberland Lodge. Many Men is preferred to Mount Atlas having gone close in the Melrose over this trip at York in August, while Roaring Legend holds a race-fitness advantage and could make his presence felt.

While AL QAREEM's superb record does not include a win first time out, he can probably make the most of this good opportunity.

Up 5lb but stable debut win (2m, AW) came in tidy style; has to be considered seriously. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

9/2(+18%) | (4) Dancingwithmyself 9/2, Ran to form when 5 1/2l third in a handicap at Nottingham most recent run; trainer in form; effective 10-14f, suited by cut, acts on good and AW; filly with more to offer this term. 10th (11) (11/1 -144%)Gentle Warrior |
11/1(-144%) | (11) Gentle Warrior 11/1, Too keen throughout when beaten 4l off a 1lb lower mark at Nottingham last time; effective 10-14f, ideally suited by staying trips, acts on good, likes plenty of give; others preferred. Highly reliable in handicaps, with 1m6f doing the trick for a quick double last September. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

33/1(+18%) | (3) Shadow Dance 33/1, Below form when well beaten in a handicap at Lingfield latest; effective 12f-14f, acts on soft, firm and AW; plenty to prove at present. Only mid-division in 2025; rather worse in both runs (first AW races) for new connections. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The unexposed MOON OVER MIAMI has not been seen since winning a valuable event over 2m at Newbury a year ago. That said, he is only 3lb higher now and it would be no surprise to see him play a leading role once again. Gambino is another with a bright future ahead of him and Dan Skelton's gelding could prove to be the main threat to the selection. Others to note are Gentle Warrior, Dancingwithmyself and Almuhit.

Four wins from six runners at the end of March for Michael Bell suggests a big run from DANCINGWITHMYSELF. Next best is Team Player.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

DEMOCRACY DILEMMA bolted up at Haydock in September when last seen in handicap company and that was off just a 6lb lower mark. A recent third in Listed company on the all-weather confirmed his wellbeing and this track should play to his strengths. Jer Batt was unfortunate to bump into subsequent Group 1 and Group 2 winners when third in this contest 12 months ago and he should not be discounted. The shortlist is completed by Against The Wind and Tropical Storm.

An intriguing sprint can go to C&D winner PILGRIM (nap) who is finally back down to the same mark as his 2024 Royal Ascot success.

20/1(-25%) | (4) Jaydee's Dream 20/1, 12 Mar; 13,000 euros Dubawi Legend colt; dam useful at 7f as a 2yo; respected on debut, especially if market speaks in favour. 13,000euros yearling; pedigree suggests he may come into his own over longer distances. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

In a race where the majority have yet to see a racecourse, there is no substitute for experience and that points the way to THE KALONJI MAN. Trained by Richard Hannon, he was the outsider of the stable pair in the Brocklesby at Doncaster won by stablemate A Bear Affair when finishing 14th, looking as if the experience would bring improvement. Tricky Jenny is bred to be speedy and she could be the best of the newcomers, alongside Katie's Knight and perhaps Super Alpha.

Very green in the Brocklesby, THE KALONJI MAN is selected in the hope that he has progressed significantly for the experience.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ZARZYNI won this last year off a mark 2lb higher and he ran better than the betting suggested when a three-length seventh at Southwell in February, on his first start in over four months. The veteran could go well once more to get the better of Wheels Of Fire, who drops in class for his second start since being gelded for the in-form Hannon yard. Trainer Jim Goldie has five entered, and Montezuma may prove to be the best of them.

Last year's winner Zarzyni is respected but WHEELS OF FIRE may be able to get across from his draw and take some pegging back.
Ths is the racecard key.
