|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (22/1 -57%)Top Star |
22/1(-57%) | (7) Top Star 22/1, Poorly placed in a race dominated from the front and needed the run when beaten 4l off a 2lb higher mark at Chelmsford last time. Effective at 5f, should build on that effort but more is needed to get off the mark. Comfortably held after an absence latest; probably needs a favour from the handicapper.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 -14%)Papa Don't Preach |
8/1(-14%) | (2) Papa Don't Preach 8/1, Scored by a neck off a 2lb lower mark at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start. Had no obvious excuse when fifth beaten 4l off 60 last time, runs off the same mark here and still looks competitively treated. Multiple 5f AW winner; latest effort was a significant drop off in form; bit to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 -27%)Howzak |
7/2(-27%) | (1) Howzak 7/2, Returned to form in a first-time tongue tie when landing a handicap by a short-head off a 4lb lower mark at Newcastle last time. 11/2(+15%) | (6) Fortunate Star 11/2, Ran to current form when beaten 3l off a 1lb higher mark here last time. Effective at 5/6f, he is in moderate form and the handicapper is beginning to relent. Dual C&D winner; hinted at a revival in first-time cheekpieces latest; more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7/1 -8%)Stash The Cash |
7/1(-8%) | (5) Stash The Cash 7/1, Had every chance but ran below form when beaten 5l in a handicap here last time. Suited by 5f, the trainer is in form, although a long losing run remains a concern. 0-6 on AW but did go close over C&D last month; visor back on but hard to be confident.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Howzak won at Newcastle last week but only narrowly and it was a bit of a surprise at 28/1. He might be worth taking on under a penalty and preference is for the proven course form that SHALAA ASKER brings to the table, and he's won two of his last three starts. Papa Don't Preach is the pick of the rest.

The suggestion is to stick with HOWZAK, who came back to form last time, when he looked like there could be more to come.

(6) (1/1 +27%)Himself |
1/1(+27%) | (6) Himself 1/1, Idled in front but improved again when landing a handicap by 1/2l off this mark here last time. Effective over 12-16f, he looks hugely progressive and well treated having escaped a penalty. Won four of his last five and he escapes a penalty for his C&D win on Saturday; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (4/1 -14%)Skycutter |
4/1(-14%) | (2) Skycutter 4/1, Had too much to do but ran to form when beaten 1 1/4l off this mark at Wolverhampton last time. Enjoys making it, is effective up to 16f, and is running back into form. On reduced mark and he's been placed on Tapeta in last two starts; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

11/2(+31%) | (3) Fleur De Mer 11/2, Ran to form when beaten 2l off a 1lb higher mark here last time. Effective over 12-14f and in okay form, though she has not won for over two years. Both wins were in 2023 but she's generally reliable and was placed over C&D last time. |

(4) (9/1 -38%)Billy Bathgate |
9/1(-38%) | (4) Billy Bathgate 9/1, Scored by 1 1/4l off a 2lb lower mark at Wolverhampton in December and ran to form when fourth, beaten 2l, off 56 last time. Effective over 14-16f and can go well again. In-form veteran who has reached the frame at Wolverhampton in last two runs; shortlisted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

HIMSELF completed the three-timer in good style here on Saturday and is very difficult to oppose given his clear liking for this circuit. Providing he copes with the quick turnaround, the four-year-old could have a lot more to offer and is taken to kick on. Moab is another C&D winner to consider and Wolverhampton third Skycutter can be competitive as well.

It's hard to get away from HIMSELF (nap), who has won four of his last five starts and escapes a penalty for his C&D win on Saturday.

6/1(+0%) | (1) Mercurius Power 6/1, Ran to form when beaten 3/4l off this mark at Newcastle last time. (9) (6/1 +33%)Heretic |
6/1(+33%) | (9) Heretic 6/1, Was a bit free and hit the front too soon but still ran to form when beaten a length off this mark here last time. Effective over 8f on the all-weather and only just above his last winning mark. Form over C&D features a quickfire double in October and creditable effort last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (7/1 +36%)Springbok |
7/1(+36%) | (8) Springbok 7/1, Never threatened when beaten 4l off a 1lb higher mark at Newcastle last time. Effective at 8f on the all-weather; still a maiden and needs to build on a recent revival. In reasonably good form but still needs to show he has what it takes to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (7/1 -27%)Dream Illusion |
7/1(-27%) | (3) Dream Illusion 7/1, Forced to wait for a gap but returned to form when landing a handicap by a neck at Newcastle last time off a 3lb lower mark. (2) (15/2 +17%)Liberty Bird |
15/2(+17%) | (2) Liberty Bird 15/2, Never in it after a slow start when beaten 7l in a handicap at Lingfield last time. Returns off a short break; effective over 7-10f on the all-weather but a bounce back is needed for her new yard. Rank outsider when never dangerous at Lingfield on stable debut last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (11/1 +0%)Sherlock |
11/1(+0%) | (5) Sherlock 11/1, Had every chance but ran below form when beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap at Newcastle last time. Effective over 7-8f on the all-weather, but an inconsistent maiden. Maiden; has frame possibilities on his November/December efforts. |

(10) (14/1 -87%)Arthur Rose |
14/1(-87%) | (10) Arthur Rose 14/1, Scored by 1/2l off a 4lb lower mark at Lingfield two starts ago. Ran to form when second beaten 2l off 57 last time and runs off the same mark here. Solid results (2112) on Polytrack for new yard; possibly hasn't reached her ceiling yet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(11) (25/1 -108%)Balqaa |
25/1(-108%) | (11) Balqaa 25/1, Ran to form when beaten 6 1/4l in a classified race at Newcastle last time. Usually held up and effective over 8-10f on the all-weather, though she has a poor strike rate. Well treated on best handicap form but needs to prove she can still show it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (25/1 +11%)Amelia's Joy |
25/1(+11%) | (6) Amelia's Joy 25/1, Never threatened and looked in need of a stiffer test when beaten 7l in a handicap at Newcastle last time. Effective at 6-7f on the all-weather, but has plenty to find. Not entirely solid on her handicap form but may benefit from this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (28/1 -155%)Calaxy |
28/1(-155%) | (7) Calaxy 28/1, Was a bit too free and flattened out when beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap at Kempton last time. Had been in good form prior and is effective over 7-8f on the all-weather. Added hood may help her to settle better than last time; attractively weighted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Mercurius Power is well capable at this level and is a must for the shortlist, as is the consistent Imola, who brings winning C&D form to the table. However, preference is for DREAM ILLUSION, who would have won by even further if getting a clear run at Newcastle 11 days ago and she's performed well at this track before too.

Off a reduced mark back at the scene of her maiden win, CALAXY is the suggestion. Arthur Rose is second pick.

(1) (10/11 -36%)Si Grass |
10/11(-36%) | (1) Si Grass 10/11, Travelled best, came away when pushed out and ran at least to form off a break when winning a maiden here by 1 1/4l last time. Effective at 1m, should get further; a big, strong filly, a nice prospect who should rate more highly. Reappeared with a comfortable win over C&D and she's strongly respected under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (13/8 0%)Naana's Crystal |
13/8(0%) | (3) Naana's Crystal 13/8, Good effort off a break and up in trip when second, beaten 1 1/2l, in a novice at Kempton latest. Effective at 1m, shows a good attitude and is open to further improvement. Heavily backed when a clear second on Kempton reappearance last week; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (25/1 -257%)Coul Britannia |
25/1(-257%) | (7) Coul Britannia 25/1, Improved from her debut when finishing well up in trip, beaten 2 1/2l, in a maiden at Kempton last time. Trainer is in form, she probably wants 7f+ and there may be more to come. Eyecatching fifth at Kempton last time and that was a major step forward; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (50/1 -52%)Forever Twenty |
50/1(-52%) | (2) Forever Twenty 50/1, 42,000gns breeze-up purchase by Havana Grey; full-sister to Greycee Bell, fair at 7f as a 2yo; dam useful at 6f at 2yo; interesting if money arrives. 42,000gns breeze-up 2yo; out of a 1m winner and market should guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (100/1 +0%)Whisky Dreams |
100/1(+0%) | (4) Whisky Dreams 100/1, Tired badly on her only start when well beaten in a novice at Beverley. Returns from a long layoff and has plenty to find on what has been shown so far. Finished a tailed-off last when 66-1 on Beverley debut (5f) last April; had wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (100/1 -150%)Filly Eilish |
100/1(-150%) | (8) Filly Eilish 100/1, 15,000 euros Phoenix Of Spain filly; full-sister to Spanish Blaze, very useful at 7f; worth a market check given yard. One of three runners for yard and market should guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (150/1 -50%)Smart Recruit |
150/1(-50%) | (6) Smart Recruit 150/1, Outpaced and never threatened on debut when beaten 10l in a maiden at Wolverhampton. Needs marked improvement on that effort and is hard to recommend. Made a low-key start at Wolverhampton last summer and is best watched on her return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It's hard to get away from SI GRASS, who comfortably justified favouritism over track and trip last month and, considering the manner of that success, she can defy her penalty. Naana's Crystal took a step forward when taking the silver medal home at Kempton last week and is likely to be on the premises. Of the remainder, the experienced Coul Britannia makes the most appeal.

Last month's C&D winner Si Grass is strongly respected, but the vote goes to last week's Kempton runner-up NAANA'S CRYSTAL.

10/3(-48%) | (5) Nammos 10/3, Ran to form when beaten 3 1/4l in a claimer at Dundalk last time and returns off a short break. Well treated on old form but slow starts remain an issue and current form is poor. 7f Polytrack winner; starts for this trainer on a handy mark but hard to be confident.. |

9/2(-13%) | (6) Last Outlaw 9/2, Never threatened when ridden to see out the trip and beaten 5l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. (2) (9/2 +50%)The Spotlight Kid |
9/2(+50%) | (2) The Spotlight Kid 9/2, Ran to form when beaten 3l off this mark here last time. Effective at 7/8f, below his last winning mark, and more like it on his latest couple of starts. Competitive mark but drop to 7f does not look obviously positive based on recent attempts.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (9/1 +18%)Grand Citadel |
9/1(+18%) | (7) Grand Citadel 9/1, Outstayed late when fourth, beaten 4l, in a handicap at Kempton latest. Effective over 5-8f but remains inconsistent and needs to find a bit extra to feature. 7f turf winner; 0-2 AW record and probably needs a further favour from the handicapper.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(9) (10/1 -43%)Brother Dave |
10/1(-43%) | (9) Brother Dave 10/1, Needed every yard and returned to form when winning a classified race here by a head last time. Suited by 7f, the trainer is in form, and he remains on a competitive mark. Won C&D classified last month; back up in the weights for return to handicap company. |

14/1(+13%) | (1) Impulse Buy 14/1, No obvious excuse when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. Effective at 6/7f but remains a maiden and looks exposed on what has been shown so far. Placed over 6f and 7f; has taken a couple of backwards steps lately but not written off.. |

(12) (25/1 +38%)Darla's Secret |
25/1(+38%) | (12) Darla's Secret 25/1, Ran to current form when beaten 3 1/4l in a classified race here last time. Effective over 7-10f but is an exposed maiden and not at his best of late. Unplaced in 12 starts; not disgraced recently over C&D but needs improvement to win.. |

33/1(-83%) | (11) Saved Lizzie 33/1, Continued in poor form when comfortably held in a handicap here last time. Usually held up, suited by 7/8f, but she remains a maiden and arrives with only moderate recent form. 0-22; well beaten in two of her three starts for this trainer; others preferred.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Brother Dave returned from a break to deliver a victory in a classified stakes over C&D, but HINT OF THE JUNGLE was only beaten half a length into second over 6f here on his latest outing and is off the same mark. Mike Murphy's gelding can cope with the extra furlong in order to regain the winning thread. Gundogan and The Spotlight Kid are others to watch out for.

The suggestion is HINT OF THE JUNGLE who may have the scope to do a little better over this trip. Gundogan is feared most.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (9/1 +0%)Em Four |
9/1(+0%) | (5) Em Four 9/1, Scored by a neck off this mark at Chelmsford in January. Made too much use of from a wide draw last time, but the trainer is in form and he has generally been running well. Didn't fire last time but he still looks feasibly treated and is capable of bouncing back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (11/1 +0%)Fan Mail |
11/1(+0%) | (3) Fan Mail 11/1, Below form after an early bump when beaten 6l at Chelmsford last time. Not easy to predict but he won over C&D on penultimate run; needs close look on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (11/1 -69%)Blue Lakota |
11/1(-69%) | (2) Blue Lakota 11/1, Ran to form when landing a handicap by a neck off a 2lb lower mark at Newcastle last time. Enjoys making the running over 5/6f and the 2lb rise looks lenient. Made it 5-13 on AW when making all at Newcastle; big player again off only 2lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (12/1 -9%)Dicko The Legend |
12/1(-9%) | (7) Dicko The Legend 12/1, Ran to form when beaten 2l off a 1lb higher mark here last time. Effective over 6f on a sound surface. Usually held up and probably high enough in the weights. Returns after a break but he could be dangerous if this sets up for his closing style. |

28/1(-155%) | (12) Thankuappreciate 28/1, Ran to current form when beaten 3l off a 2lb higher mark here last time. Has dropped in the weights but in moderate form of ltae. His last win was 14 months ago and faded over 5f here in last two runs; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

In an open event, marginal preference is for STATE OF MADNESS. Charlie Clover's gelding was an eye-catching close third over 6f at Kempton three weeks ago and makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. The recent Wolverhampton winner Vince Lombardi is an obvious danger now just 1lb higher, while Lequinto edges out Blue Lakota and Jesse Luc to be next best.

This is competitive but STATE OF MADNESS has a record of 112143 for his current yard and he gets the vote ahead of Blue Lakota.

Trainer is in form and he is effective at 6f, with 7f likely to suit if settling better. Could follow up. Broke his duck in a Lingfield maiden latest; 6lb penalty; considered back in a handicap.. |

9/2(+18%) | (4) Grey Horizon 9/2, Scored by a length off a 4lb lower mark at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start. Effective at 5f and 6f, and may stay 7f if settling better, with a very likeable attitude. In good form including C&D win; close third latest; drops 2lb; competitive.. |

(6) (12/1 -71%)Henriette Ronner |
12/1(-71%) | (6) Henriette Ronner 12/1, Was touch keen but rejuvenated in first-time blinkers and eased clear when landing a handicap by 2 1/2l off an 8lb lower mark at Newcastle last time. Effective at 6f and 7f and could follow up if the headgear works again. Off the mark for William Haggas recently; up 8lb, so will need another step up.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Henriette Ronner and King Of Chaos both merit plenty of respect following recent wins but their new marks could leave them vulnerable. With that in mind, the vote goes to MARRA DONNA, who did not appear to get home over 7f on his handicap debut last week. This drop in trip should suit and a mark of 63 is clearly workable.

This could be the day for WELCOME RETREAT, who is improving with each start, to outperform her mark and win on her handicap debut.
Ths is the racecard key.
