LTO Selection:

14:05 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Saisons D'Or battled on gamely to land the spoils here last time out, but a wide draw isn't ideal and a chance can be taken on BIG NARSTIE. Michael Appleby's gelding is well treated judged on past exploits and he should appreciate the return to 7f having won over C&D on his last attempt at the trip, while the booking of Oisin Murphy would appear to signal a statement of intent. Ring Of Gold remains in good form and he should not be underestimated.

Cases can be made for several but the most persuasive is for RING OF GOLD, who wasn't ideally placed when a staying-on third at Kempton earlier this month and, reunited with usual pilot Joanna Mason, he can notch career victory number 4. Both Saisons d'Or and Split Elevens were back to winning ways at this track recently, so they head up the dangers, with Rogue Star rounding off the shortlist.

The consistent Ring Of Gold should go well again but this might fall ideally for SPLIT ELEVENS, who arrives in top form.

LTO Selection:

14:40 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

It looks best to side with the in-form KISS MY FACE, who kept on strongly to land a similar contest at Newcastle two weeks ago. The gelded son of Nathaniel remains unexposed in this sphere and is open to further progress, so a 5lb rise could prove lenient. Alchemystique bumped into a progressive rival when finishing a good second on her return and she ought to hold every chance if running to a similar level. Others to note include Buford and Bird For Life.

KISS MY FACE didn't need to improve to get off the mark in this sphere at Newcastle a fortnight ago and, given his current mood, a 5 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the follow up. He gets the nod ahead of Alchemystique, who ran well back on the Flat returning from 9 months off when second at Newcastle earlier this month. King Charles and Chef de Troupe can fight out minor honours.

The most likely winner is KISS MY FACE (nap), who has not seen much Flat action but won on Tapeta last time.

15:15 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

NIVELLE'S MAGIC defied odds of 150/1 to finish a close-up fourth on her handicap/stable debut at Lingfield following an eight-month absence, and she can shed the maiden tag with any further improvement. Tom Tulliver has been thriving in classified contests lately and he must be respected back in a handicap. Kodebreaker, who continues to run well in defeat, is fancied to hit the frame.

A number in with a shout including KODEBREAKER who has been acquitting himself with credit from this sort of mark in recent months and this is arguably a shade less demanding than the competition he has faced of late. Tom Tulliver comes here in good order and is feared, along with Urban Road and the returning Doomsday.

In a trappy handicap in which it's hard to be sure where the pace is coming from, the vote goes to the lightly raced NIVELLE'S MAGIC.

15:50 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A 3lb rise for Written Broadcast's victory at Wolverhampton is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Ollie Pears' inmate, however, is yet to triumph over a mile so C&D winner INEXPLICABLE shades the vote. The son of Dark Angel returned to form when runner-up at Wolverhampton on Saturday and is turned out quickly before his revised mark kicks in. Crazy Spin should remain competitive on this return to handicap company and is another who warrants consideration.

WRITTEN BROADCAST is in his best form for a couple of years and can defy the handicapper again kept to a 0-55. Inexplicable goes off the same mark as when runner-up at Wolverhampton last week and is second choice. Arlo's Sunshine is also handicapped to go close if his new stable has him ready to roll after 7 months off.

The return to 1m won't hurt WRITTEN BROADCAST, having twice chased home a progressive rival over C&D this year.

16:20 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ANGLE LAND has really found her stride since late December, winning three of her last four appearances, and a 4lb rise for her recent success at Chelmsford may not be enough to derail her progress. Mr Beaufort struck on his return from a 104-day absence at Goodwood in September and having won on his sole start on the all-weather, is feared most now under the tutelage of David O'Meara. C&D winner Khabib is on a handy mark and completes the shortlist.

MR BEAUFORT has had only 6 starts so there should be more to come this year and it might be worth chancing his fitness on this first outing for the excellent David O'Meara yard. Bert Kibbler and the thriving Angle Land were 1-2 in a similarly competitive C&D handicap 3 weeks ago and rate obvious threats. The booking of Oisin Murphy for Spring Is Sprung takes the eye and he'd come into it if the betting vibes are strong on his first outing for the Paul Midgley stable.

The suggestion is KHABIB, who was denied a clear run just at the wrong time on his latest outing and is very well suited by this C&D.

The application of cheekpieces has unlocked some improvement in First Charge and a 4lb rise for his win at Wolverhampton last month is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Slight preference, however, is for JUBILEE GIRL, who was collared close home over an extended 2m at this circuit and the combination of a drop in distance with first-time headgear may help Karl Burke's consistent filly regain the winning thread. Prince Abu makes most appeal of the remaining opposition.

FIRST CHARGE snapped a losing run with Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle last time and Laurence Bellman's 6-y-o might be able to follow up as he has won off this mark before. Jubilee Girl has thrived lately and ought to give another good account, while King Francis is back on a workable mark and won on his reappearance last year.

Preference is for FIRST CHARGE, just ahead of serious rivals Jubilee Girl and Notimeforanother.

17:25 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Forge Valley Lad failed to defy a 3lb raised mark, settling for second when on a hat-trick over 1m2f at Lingfield. He could easily bounce back but preference lies instead with CITIZEN GENERAL, who is on a three-timer of his own. Ed Dunlop's charge kept on well to score by almost four lengths over an extended 1m4f at Newcastle when last seen in October and can pick up where he left off. Skye Breeze is another to bear in mind.

DOWN TO THE KID is compiling an excellent record at Southwell and having shaped as though in top form at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago, he has a lot going for him. The dangers are headed by Forge Valley Lad and Skye Breeze.

Competitive. The vote goes to CITIZEN GENERAL, despite his layoff, because he looked so firmly on the upgrade last July-October.

17:55 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Only narrowly denied over C&D earlier this month, FIGHTING POET is fancied to go one better. The application of cheekpieces seemed to have the desired effect and he can break his duck with the headgear retained. Breguet Boy justified favouritism in a Newcastle classified event and should not be underestimated on his return to handicapping. King Athelstan completes the shortlist.

It hasn't taken long for BREGUET BOY to find his form back with Keith Dalgleish, and given he retains plenty of handicap scope on old form, he's a very persuasive candidate. King Athelstan and Fighting Poet head the opposition.

With a bit to prove on the Flat stamina of Breguet Boy, preference is for FIGHTING POET who battled on well over C&D last time.
