Race 1: 13:35 Curragh Nando Parrado At The Irish National Stud Irish EBF Maiden IRE 7f
(19) Wing Glider | | | | | | 3 | Leigh Roche | Richard Brabazon | Free Eagle filly didn't count but not entirely disgraced on C&D debut in October; hard to see her making the required improvement to play a major role here though. |
(5) Positive Energy | | | | | | 3 | Nathan Crosse | W McCreery | Two late-season 2yo maiden runs suggest he'll be of more interest when tackling handicaps. |
(6) Rappell | | | | | | 3 | W J Lee | Paul W Flynn | Well held both 2yo runs in October; likely to need more time. |
(8) Your Out Of Line | | | | | | 3 | Sean Bird | Michael Mulvany | Dropped out to finish last of five on recent Leopardstown debut, having raced up with much of pace; drop back in trip should suit. |
(9) Abbey Actress | | | | | | 3 | Ronan Whelan | John S O'Donoghue | Make Believe filly dropped out quickly as if something amiss on Dundalk debut in December, probably best watched for now. |
(13) Clouds Collide | | | | | | 3 | Andrew Slattery | A Oliver | Muhaarar filly plenty green when last of ten on Dundalk debut in November; can only be watched on return. |
(14) Empress Alma | | | | | | 3 | Robert Whearty | Gavin Cromwell | Not the clearest of runs when midfield on last week's Dundalk debut; better for that experience but may still need more time. |
(10) Auburn Avenue | | | | | | 3 | Robbie Colgan | Chris Timmons | Similar form in two sprint maidens last year; will have to find significant improvement on return with tongue tie tried. |
(12) Bless Me | | | | | | 3 | Conor Maxwell | John Andrew Kinsella | Unfortunately filly is closely related to 6.6f-1m2f winner Winiata (inc 2yo; RPR 92), half-sister to seven winners inc Prinzde Glas (French 5f/6f; 100) and Belcarra (German 7f 2yo Listed/1m Group 3; 98); dam German 7f winner; newcomer best watched. |
(17) Nans View | | | | | | 3 | Neve Bennett | Jarlath P Fahey | Never recovered from slow start on sole 2yo outing at Gowran; best watched for now. |
3rd (3) Monasterboice | | | | | | 3 | Colin Keane | Noel Meade | Took a step forward on second start when staying on to be beaten only 3.5l in decent C&D 2yo maiden in October on soft-to-heavy, not at same level following month at Dundalk; blinkered for seasonal return, not one to rule out with yard beginning the season well. |
(2) Mark's One | | | | | | 3 | Chris Hayes | Gavin Cromwell | Never featured when well held on last week's Dundalk debut; tongue tie fitted here and best watched for now. |
(7) Solar Saving | | | | | | 3 | Rory Cleary | J S Bolger | Close third on Navan debut in October was promising but stamina test (1m1f) beyond him just three days later; missed subsequent intended engagement due to heavy ground so conditions hardly ideal here (having been gelded) on seasonal return. |
(18) White Clover | | | | | | 3 | Gary Carroll | Joseph G Murphy | Starspangledbanner filly a 30,000Euros yearling; half-sister to winners Coley's Koko (5f; RPR 71) and Sunmoonstar (Polish 5f 2yo); dam unplaced 7f/1m1f in France, half-sister to 5f Group 1 winner Gilt Edge Girl; newcomer worth a market check. |
(16) Kentucky Gal | | | | | | 3 | Seamie Heffernan | Anthony Mullins | Churchill filly a buy-back as a yearling; fourth foal; dam unraced half-sister to 6f 2yo Group 2 winner Antonius Pius out of unbeaten Yorkshire Oaks winner; interesting jockey booking so not one to readily dismiss. |
(11) Bleak Midwinter | | | | | | 3 | Wayne Lordan | Miss Natalia Lupini | Wootton Bassett filly cost 40,000Euros as a yearling; first foal; dam 1m4f AW winner (RPR 74), half-sister to useful winners Chamade (7f-1m2f inc 2yo/Listed) and Brimham Rocks (1m2f-1m6f inc Australian Grade 3); yard had a maiden go close at Dundalk recently so not one to ignore on debut. |
4th (15) Kailasa | | | | | | 3 | Ben Coen | J P Murtagh | Starspangledbanner half-sister to winners Kailash (1m2f inc Australia) and Kaliysta (Qatar 7f); dam 7f 2yo winner (RPR 84), from family of Champion Stakes/Breeders' Cup Turf winner Kalanisi; nicely-bred debutante has to be worth a market check. |
1st (20) Zaynab | | | | | | 3 | Declan McDonogh | Gordon Elliott | Half-sister to the stable's high-class jumper Zanahiyr whose Flat win for Michael Halford was gained at 1m4f; plenty keen on C&D debut last month when showing definite promise; will want further in time. |
2nd (1) Igor Stravinsky | | | | | | 3 | Ryan Moore | A P O'Brien | Homebred son of No Nay Never is first foal of dual 1,000 Guineas winner Hermosa, a sister to Group 1 winners Hydrangea (1m/1m4f) and The United States (Australian 1m2f); newcomer with major claims on breeding; blinkered for debut. |
(4) No Knee Never | | | | | | 3 | Dylan Browne McMonagle | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Half-brother to six winners, notably yard's Irish Derby winner Latrobe; never involved but putting in best work at finish when third in C&D maiden in September, sole 2yo start; more expected of this year. |
Easily the most interesting of the newcomers is Igor Stravinsky, the first foal of dual Guineas winner Hermosa, equipped with blinkers. However, preference on this occasion is for another son of No Nay Never in NO KNEE NEVER, who showed plenty of promise over C&D last year. Monasterboice and Zaynab are others to have shown C&D promise, while the debutante Kailasa has to be watched for market support. [Alan Hewison]
Race 2: 14:10 Curragh Download The New Tote App Rated Race IRE 5f
(8) Verified | | | | | | 3 | N G McCullagh | Charles Weld | Best of four 2yo runs when second over 6f at Cork, good bit to find with three of today's rivals however on subsequent run at same venue on softer ground. |
(3) Lia Fail | | | | | | 3 | Terry Casey | Michael Mulvany | Enjoyed lucrative 2yo campaign with three wins and third in Fairyhouse Listed; didn't seem to get home over 7f in valuable Naas sales contest final start; tongue tie tried for seasonal return and back in trip. |
4th (4) Perfect Judgement | | | | | | 3 | Cian MacRedmond | Adrian McGuinness | Solid maiden turf form at two and improvement both AW starts this year in 6f conditions events at Dundalk, asserting late to win in January and then short of room at crucial stage when close third last month; cheekpieces now fitted for turf return, should go well if handling the conditions. |
(9) Jalaybee | | | | | | 3 | Chris Hayes | D K Weld | Placed in three early season maidens last year (including on heavy); well beaten after a break in the Birdcatcher but ran up to form in Cork maiden last month in first-time cheekpieces; place claims. |
2nd (6) Pansy Poe | | | | | | 3 | J M Sheridan | J A Stack | Ran just twice at two, second occasion shaping well when third behind Bonbon and Sweetest in Cork maiden on soft ground in September, staying on well; stiffer 5f here sure to suit and could well play a major role. |
1st (2) Bid For Chester | | | | | | 3 | Wesley Joyce | Michael Mulvany | Plenty of experience at two, notably final start when strong-finishing third in very valuable Naas sales event on soft (7f); good second on seasonal return over same trip in Madrid Handicap at Naas behind a runaway winner; not sure drop to minimum trip in his favour though. |
(5) Sweetest | | | | | | 3 | Ryan Moore | A P O'Brien | Consistent in defeat (including Cork second to Bonbon on soft) until landing Dundalk AW maiden in November; out of depth in Leopardstown Group 3 on recent return but definite player here off a workable mark. |
3rd (7) Heavenly Being | | | | | | 3 | Shane Foley | Mrs John Harrington | Rounded off last season with a decisive success in a 5f maiden at Navan in October; too keen and hampered when well held on seasonal return over 7f in Madrid Handicap, now drops back in trip but will need to settle better. |
(1) Bonbon | | | | | | 3 | Wayne Hassett | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Pick of juvenile form came when winning Cork maiden on soft ground, showing plenty of speed in beating Sweetest 2.5l; never landed a blow however in Deauville Listed following month; still scope for improvement, especially on this sort of ground. |
An interesting race in which Perfect Judgement looks a likely major player if handling the conditions. However, the Cork juvenile maiden won by Bonbon could prove key, with second-placed Sweetest and third-placed PANSY POE both in opposition, the latter the less exposed and likely to relish this stiffer track. Jalaybee is not one to discount off a light weight. [Alan Hewison]
Race 3: 14:45 Curragh Hytech EQ Ultra Handicap IRE 1m
(2) Fiscal Rules | | | | | | 7 | Rory Cleary | J S Bolger | Smart performer in his day, runner-up in Cork Listed and and ran well in Group 1 company; absent nearly three years so impossible to know what to make of him at this stage. |
(15) Pralognan | | | | | | 5 | Wayne Lordan | A J Martin | Juvenile winner in France with placed form at up to 1m4f; faller on last month's hurdles return and this trip looks on the short side. |
(4) Fast Tara | | | | | | 4 | Dylan Browne McMonagle | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Handled heavy ground when winning Bellewstown maiden this time last year; quite highly tried afterwards by Johnny Murtagh, best run when third in Listowel handicap off 91; first start for new yard. |
(6) Current Option | | | | | | 8 | Cian MacRedmond | Adrian McGuinness | Seasoned handicapper yet to win beyond 7f and hasn't won since July 2022; too keen in Lincoln on seasonal return and remains opposable despite reduced mark. |
(16) Sirjack Thomas | | | | | | 9 | Jamie Powell | Adrian McGuinness | Heavily raced seven-time winner; already had three turf runs this season, notably Cork third to Independent Expert; bit to find. |
(9) Simply Sideways | | | | | | 7 | Wayne Hassett | Timothy Doyle | Highly progressive last season (including on heavy); just respectable runs both starts this season, keeping on late behind Independent Expert over inadequate 7f latest; return to a stiff mile to suit so not one to rule out. |
(7) Lady Lunette | | | | | | 4 | Ben Coen | R P Cody | C&D win last summer came off mark of 84 and not discredited behind Crystal Black over 1m2f here; ambitiously campaigned without success since including recent Naas Listed; will appreciate return to handicaps. |
(3) Grey Leader | | | | | | 4 | Luke McAteer | Joseph G Murphy | Likeable sort made it three wins from five starts when beating four rivals in rated race at Gowran in October on heavy, his final start; remains relatively unexposed entering handicap ranks here and has to be respected. |
3rd (10) Casanova | | | | | | 8 | Adam Caffrey | Adrian McGuinness | Long losing run but reappeared with fine fourth in Irish Lincoln here last month, having raced prominently; down to a competitive mark and has to enter calculations. |
2nd (11) Earls | | | | | | 7 | Gary Carroll | Gavin Cromwell | Grand sort handles heavy and won a big pot over 7f at Cork last May; left with plenty to do when never nearer fifth in last month's Irish Lincoln on seasonal return, should get closer this time. |
(13) Mexicali Rose | | | | | | 4 | Declan McDonogh | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Bought for 42,000gns out of Ralph Beckett's yard in December, having won Chepstow maiden last summer and run to a better level subsequently in handicaps at Pontefract and Newmarket (heavy); begins for Joseph O'Brien off a fair mark. |
(14) Independent Expert | | | | | | 5 | Andrew Slattery | Andrew Slattery | Mare likes an ease in the ground and was recording fourth career win when making successful seasonal return at Cork last month, beating Scholarship; 4lb rise okay and gets 1m so one to consider. |
(8) Scholarship | | | | | | 4 | Scott McCullagh | Gerard O'Leary | Decent Newbury form (7f) last year for Clive Cox, winning on seasonal debut and ended campaign with good second on heavy; good start for new connections when second to Independent Expert at Cork last month (7f) but remains unproven over 1m. |
1st (1) Crystal Black | | | | | | 6 | Colin Keane | Gerard Keane | Ended last season in the form of his life at this track, winning twice including 1m2f premier handicap on final start in September and in between finished a close third in Irish Cambridgeshire over this trip; those efforts came on much better ground however so obvious ground concerns here. |
(12) Spirit Genie | | | | | | 4 | Seamie Heffernan | Jennie Candlish | Soft ground winner at Leicester last year bettered that form when second at Newmarket afterwards; encouraging enough seasonal return in Lincoln at Doncaster so not one to rule out on ground he handles. |
4th (5) Mr Rango | | | | | | 6 | Shane Foley | John M Harney | Consistent for Ross O'Sullivan, winning twice over 1m2f on soft ground; up to career-high mark after recent Leopardstown win for this yard over same trip, having his field well strung out when winning going away; cheekpieces now fitted for drop in trip and seems sure to go well. |
Very competitive heat in which few can be safely ruled out. EARLS finished best of all from the rear in the Irish Lincoln and can take revenge on Casanova here. In-form Mr Rango along with Grey Leader look major threats, while market support for Joseph O'Brien's pair of recruits Fast Tara and Mexicali Rose should be noted. [Alan Hewison]
Race 4: 15:20 Curragh Tote Now Online At Tote.ie Maiden IRE 1m
(1) Beaumadier | | | | | | 4 | Yudish Geerdharry | M C Grassick | Ten-race maiden with a low handicap mark and unlikely to be the answer to a Curragh maiden. |
(4) Cyprus Springs | | | | | | 4 | Oisin McSweeney | Luke Comer | Well held in two AW maidens; outsider. |
(5) Eight By Ten | | | | | | 4 | Scott McCullagh | Luke Comer | Bit of late headway on debut when beaten 14l in AW maiden in February; best watched. |
(11) Silky Suilleabhain | | | | | | 4 | Robert Whearty | Paul W Flynn | Has made no impression in three starts; big outsider |
(17) Crystal's Heir | | | | | | 6 | Paddy Harnett | Paul W Flynn | Well held so far under all codes; will get a handicap mark after this. |
(22) Reckless Quality | | | | | | 4 | Robbie Colgan | Patrick Martin | Modest form in 7f maidens last term; big outsider. |
(2) Calzaghi | | | | | | 4 | Calum Hogan | Kevin Thomas Coleman | Showed a bit of ability when keeping on in mid-field over 7f here last month but likely to need more experience. |
(9) Lord Of Excess | | | | | | 4 | Gary Halpin | C Byrnes | Well held in two starts for Andrew Balding last year and picked up for small money in the summer; best watched. |
(7) Gunsight | | | | | | 4 | Adam Caffrey | Michael William O'Meara | Runner-up twice over 1m at Killarney, including when touched off under inexperienced rider in handicap there last May; not seen since following month and looks up against it. |
(8) Jack McNamara | | | | | | 4 | Luke McAteer | Andrew Kinirons | Homebred is half-brother to Nostringsattached who won 1m2f maiden here for yard last term; plenty of stamina on dam-side of pedigree. |
(14) Winning Smut | | | | | | 5 | Seamie Heffernan | Michael Hourigan | Decent maiden hurdler with form up to 2m7f; this will surely be too sharp on Flat debut. |
(18) Harseva | | | | | | 4 | James Ryan | Gerard Keane | Homebred half-sister to four winners is out of unraced half-sister to high-class miler Intikhab; tongue-tie. |
(10) Sevensees | | | | | | 4 | Ben Coen | J P Murtagh | Fair runs in maidens last term; around 2.5l behind Come On The Lads when finishing mid-field in 1m Leopardstown handicap on his return; better for that but stiff task. |
3rd (15) Wisdomofhindsight | | | | | | 4 | Gary Carroll | A Oliver | Ran okay on debut here in September, keeping on when beaten 9l over 1m2f; this trip might be too sharp but should find his level in due course. |
(3) Come On The Lads | | | | | | 4 | Ronan Whelan | Jack W Davison | Has twice run well on heavy ground at Leopardstown, including in handicap company last time, but likely to find a few too good. |
(21) Passionate | | | | | | 4 | Andrew Slattery | Andrew Slattery | Well held in two starts for Fozzy Stack last spring and picked up for small money in July; best watched. |
(12) Spitfire Fighter | | | | | | 4 | Colin Keane | Noel Meade | Promising debut over 7f when fourth in heavy-ground Galway maiden that worked out well; faded over 1m2f here on second start; off eight months; tongue-tie. |
(6) Expound | | | | | | 5 | J M Sheridan | Denis Gerard Hogan | Placed 10 times from 15 starts over a variety of trips and is fit from the AW but this ground won't be ideal and he'll be doing well to place in this. |
4th (16) Concluding Call | | | | | | 4 | W J Lee | W McCreery | Two decent runs at Dundalk in early winter, only beaten just over a length over 10.5f the first time; well held in third over this trip on second start. |
(19) Johanna Whitty | | | | | | 4 | Rory Cleary | J S Bolger | Two creditable runs here within five days at the back-end, both over 1m4f on heavy; only beaten just over a length on second start; headgear on but might be done for toe over this trip. |
1st (13) State Actor | | | | | | 4 | Chris Hayes | W T Farrell | Placed in both starts over 1m at Dundalk; only beaten half a length by short-priced favourite last time with Expound well back in third; has a chance if handling the ground. |
(23) Unassuming | | | | | | 4 | Dylan Browne McMonagle | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Went into plenty of notebooks when coming from well back to finish fifth of 17 in 1m2f maiden here on Derby weekend; by Lope De Vega but scratched due to heavy ground in the autumn; tongue-tied for debut, not so here; trip might be too sharp but not ruled out. |
2nd (24) Uncanny | | | | | | 4 | Ryan Moore | Donnacha Aidan O'Brien | Missed a couple of engagements last August; dam 1m AW winner, closely related to 7f 2yo winner Elleanthus, half-sister to useful 1m4f/13.5f winner Moon Daisy out of maiden sister to 7f Group 3 winner Ishvana; Moore on board. |
(20) Nelda | | | | | | 4 | Shane Foley | Mrs John Harrington | Went down by no more than a length in all three maiden starts last term, including never-nearer second over 7f at Galway when last seen in August; respectable run in Group 3 before that; that Galway run was on yielding to soft but has missed several engagements due to soft ground; first try at 1m. |
Heavy ground won't be ideal but NELDA (nap), who had solid form up to 7f last term, is chosen in the hope she'll handle conditions. Based on her last run at Galway, she should stay a mile. Conversely, the trip might be on the sharp side for Unassuming who was a big eyecatcher over 1m2f here last summer but she is feared all the same. Joanna Whitty also wants further but has place claims along with Spitfire Fighter and State Actor. [Mark Nunan]
Race 5: 15:55 Curragh Tote.ie Alleged Stakes (Group 3) IRE 1m 2f
(8) The Shadow Lingers | | | | | | 4 | Jack Kearney | Luke Comer | Was 66-1 when easily winning 1m AW maiden on debut in February; ordinary form though (runner-up rated in mid-60s) so readily opposed up in grade and trip. |
(7) Serious Challenge | | | | | | 4 | Rory Cleary | J S Bolger | Maiden winner at two and ran several good races in defeat in stakes company last term; creditable comeback under hefty weight in Irish Lincoln but weakened tamely in Listed contest at Naas six days later. |
(2) Mashhoor | | | | | | 6 | Ben Coen | J P Murtagh | Prominent racer had productive campaign last term including Listed and Group 3 victories on good ground here; finished behind White Birch in Leopardstown Group 3 on final outing in September and heavy ground a definite concern. |
(4) Helvic Dream | | | | | | 7 | Chris Hayes | Noel Meade | Mudlark won Group 1 here in 2021; has had physical issues and hasn't come close to that form for some time although was Listed-placed over 1m4f here in November; been hurdling since and fair to say he's been underwhelming in that sphere given his Flat rating; race fitness a plus but doubt it'll be enough. |
4th (6) Raise You | | | | | | 8 | Mikey Sheehy | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Smart horse but 8yo hasn't been seen since finishing fifth in Irish St Leger in 2022; won stakes races at 1m4f/1m6f earlier that season; has won off a break and goes on heavy but this is quite an ask after such an absence; hooded. |
(3) Crypto Force | | | | | | 4 | David Egan | Adrian Murray | Smart 2yo for Michael O'Callaghan; beat Auguste Rodin in course maiden on debut and won the Beresford Stakes over 1m (yielding) when last seen in September 2022; unraced for the Gosdens and now steps up in trip on stable debut; every chance of staying 1m2f on pedigree but stiff task after such an absence. |
(1) Greenland | | | | | | 4 | Ryan Moore | A P O'Brien | Improved on juvenile form last year when he raced exclusively in France; Group 3 winner on soft at Saint-Cloud (10.5f) on second start of the campaign; after midsummer break, beaten 3l by subsequent Arc winner Ace Impact at Deauville before lesser effort in Prix Niel over 1m4f, although he has shaped a few times like he wants that trip; open to more improvement but perhaps after he has this run under his belt. |
2nd (5) Maxux | | | | | | 4 | Dylan Browne McMonagle | Joseph Patrick O'Brien | Unraced at two and just the four starts in fillies-only company last year, winning a Gowran maiden on debut and career-best when readily landing 1m1f Fairyhouse Group 3 in September; unraced on worse than yielding and this will be tougher against some hardy boys. |
3rd (9) Village Voice | | | | | | 4 | Shane Foley | Mrs John Harrington | All three wins on soft or heavy including Navan Listed contest on last year's return; well beaten third to Maxux at Fairyhouse before snaring 10.5f Group 3 at Saint-Cloud in October; bit to find on ratings but may not be far away if near her best. |
1st (10) White Birch | | | | | | 4 | Colin Keane | John Joseph Murphy | Really good start to last season, winning heavy-ground Group 3 at Leopardstown on first start, second in Dante and running-on third in Derby; bombed out in Irish Derby before running respectably in Leopardstown Group 3; might be better over 1m4f but the one to beat on the figures if back to his best. |
A lot of these have a similar chance on ratings with White Birch the one with a bit in hand in that respect. He's a leading contender if they've got him back to his best but VILLAGE VOICE, a winner on her return last term, will enjoy conditions and is preferred. Greenland and Crypto Force are respected but might come on for the run. [Mark Nunan]

(3) King Of The Bronx | | | | | | 3 | Robbie Colgan | Nigel Thomas Slevin | Last on both 2yo outings, easily overlooked. |
(8) Thefutureisnow | | | | | | 3 | Scott McCullagh | Michael Hourigan | Cheaply bought Highland Reel gelding is half-brother to winners One Pekan (8.5f/1m2f; RPR 91) and Southern Storm (1m-1m2f AW; 89); dam placed in USA, sister to US 8.5f Grade 3 winner Brave Tin Soldier; newcomer likely best watched. |
(13) Sheen Falls Time | | | | | | 3 | Ronan Whelan | John S O'Donoghue | Mild promise in a heavy-ground Leopardstown 2yo maiden, well held on last month's AW return; likely more one for handicaps. |
(6) Noble Nation | | | | | | 3 | J M Sheridan | Gerard O'Leary | Sioux Nation half-brother to eight winners inc Primo Uomo (5f inc 2yo/AW/Listed; RPR 112), Safari Sunseeker (6f/7f inc 2yo/AW; 96), Strategic Force (5f/6f AW; 92) & Crush And Run (5f-6f AW inc Qatar; 77); unraced dam out of half-sister to 5f Group 3 winner; newcomer with stamina concerns on breeding. |
(9) Valjean | | | | | | 3 | N G McCullagh | Charles Weld | Awtaad colt is third foal of an unraced half-sister to 1m2f Listed (inc AW) winner Battalion; limited appeal on breeding and best watched on debut. |
(5) Model Approach | | | | | | 3 | Rory Cleary | J S Bolger | Second foal; dam 1m2f-1m4f winner (inc AW; RPR 89), sister to 10.6f AW Listed winner Paene Magnus; just fair debut effort at Leopardstown 13 days ago, probably needs more time. |
(11) Glowing Bird | | | | | | 3 | Leigh Roche | Peter Fahey | Phoenix Of Spain filly a 40,000Euros foal but only a 15,000Euros yearling; half-sister to 1m 2yo winner Encore L'Amour (RPR 100) and 6f-1m winner Global Spirit (89); dam 1m2f winner (72), sister to US 1m1f/1m2f Grade 1 winner Ticker Tape; probably all the better for this debut run but worth a market check nonetheless. |
4th (2) Kaptain Bay | | | | | | 3 | Colin Keane | Noel Meade | New Bay colt showed mild promise (stable second-choice) on Punchestown debut in September; improvement expected this year over middle-distances. |
(12) Quilieve | | | | | | 3 | W J Lee | Henry De Bromhead | Half-sister to several winners including yard's Triumph Hurdle winner Quixilios; not unbacked but never competitive after a tardy start on Leopardstown debut in October; should do better and no surprise if she made the frame. |
2nd (10) Bloom Vega | | | | | | 3 | Ben Coen | J P Murtagh | Lope De Vega sister to 8.3f/1m1f winner Botanical (RPR 105); dam 1m2f-1m6f winner (inc Listed; 104), closely related to 7f Group 3 winner Primo Luce, from family of high-class sprinter and broodmare Cassandra Go; nicely-bred debutante, worth a market check. |
(4) Maharajjah | | | | | | 3 | Shane Foley | Mrs John Harrington | Rajj half-brother to winners Isle Of Lismore (5f/6f inc 2yo; RPR 92), Espresso Freddo (7f/1m inc AW; 85), Swinley Forest (1m AW; 80) and By Royal Approval (6f-8.7f inc AW/Italy; 75); dam placed 7f 2yo (63), half-sister to 6f Group 2 winner; newcomer bred for shorter trips, probably best watched. |
1st (1) Chemistry | | | | | | 3 | Ryan Moore | A P O'Brien | Kingman half-brother to three winners, including Listed scorer Joie De Soir; dam unraced daughter of 1m2f Group 1 winner; blinkered, stable second-choice on Naas debut in October, slow to break and green but showing definite promise when staying-on third over 1m; sure to appreciate this step up in trip and likely major contender in what looks an ordinary maiden for the venue. |
Little strength in depth for a maiden at this venue and likely a good opportunity for CHEMISTRY, who should relish this step up in trip. Kaptain Bay, Quilieve and Bloom Vega look likely place prospects. [Alan Hewison]
Race 7: 17:05 Curragh Tote Never Beaten By SP Handicap IRE 6f
(17) Distillate | | | | | | 4 | Chris Hayes | Adrian McGuinness | Won three times last season when kept very busy; handles heavy but off since January and opposable in this grade. |
(23) Livingston Range | | | | | | 6 | Rory Cleary | R Donohoe | Hit a good spell of form over this trip last summer when winning at Naas and second to Secret Magician here; soundly beaten in three starts since switching yards last month and hard to fancy. |
(22) Tai Sing Yeh | | | | | | 10 | Killian Leonard | Denis Gerard Hogan | Veteran has been a great servant and has won on soft; only beaten 2l in AW handicap latest but this company looks bit too hot for him. |
4th (4) Dagoda | | | | | | 6 | Adam Caffrey | Miss Jennifer Anne Lynch | Gained back-to-back course wins (6f/7f) last season and was third of 19 after missing the break in a C&D handicap in October; has the form to feature if returning in similar nick. |
5th (12) Rathbranchurch | | | | | | 4 | Wesley Joyce | Michael Mulvany | Just the one win last term but was a consistent handicapper throughout the season and ran well first time out; ground no issue. |
5th (3) Tough Talk | | | | | | 4 | Colin Keane | G M Lyons | One of the darker ones after only five starts and he won his 2yo maiden here before finishing second in the Group 3 Marble Hill; restricted to only three starts as a 3yo and showed the benefit of a gelding operation when only 2l away in 7.5f handicap at Leopardstown; dropped 4lb. |
2nd (20) Midnight Fire | | | | | | 7 | Leigh Roche | Eddie & Patrick Harty | Three of his four wins have come over C&D including first time out last term on heavy; form petered out as the season went on; might find winning in this grade difficult but each-way claims. |
(2) Never Shout Never | | | | | | 4 | Cian MacRedmond | Adrian McGuinness | 5f winner at Cork on soft and excellent second in premier handicap over C&D last year when trained by Fozzy Stack; very weak in market on second start for this yard when beaten around 5l at Cork last time. |
(5) Rough Diamond | | | | | | 7 | Ben Coen | Edward Lynam | Four-time winner handles soft and has won here; missed most of last season and not in great form on AW over the winter although latest run (when beaten 2l) was better; tongue-tie. |
(7) Gustavus Weston | | | | | | 8 | Gary Carroll | Joseph G Murphy | Four-time winner at up to Group 2 level; has been steadily coming down the handicap and was second over 5f here in the autumn but no encouragement from his two starts this term. |
(8) Polar Bear | | | | | | 4 | Keithen Kennedy | Mrs John Harrington | 5f winner on heavy at Bellewstown last April and touched off at same venue in August; has won over 6f and should have come on for fair return at Cork; rider knows him and is good value for his claim. |
(9) Coumshingaun | | | | | | 5 | Seamie Heffernan | Kevin Thomas Coleman | Dual C&D winner should be better for seasonal debut over 7f at Cork and she's back on a good mark; has run well on testing ground but would prefer a sounder surface. |
(13) Saturn Seven | | | | | | 4 | Declan McDonogh | Edward Lynam | Two wins for Ken Condon last season, over 7f at Limerick and over 5f here on testing ground when last seen in October; visor worn then left off; stable debut after being bought for 17,000gns. |
(6) Brave Troop | | | | | | 5 | Luke McAteer | Barry J Fitzgerald | Quite a talented horse as he showed when bolting up over 7f at Gowran this time last year having won over 1m2f on heavy the time before; beaten fractions off this mark over 7f at Listowel in September; not seen since falling over hurdles later that month. |
(15) Run The Jewels | | | | | | 7 | Oisin McSweeney | Daniel McLoughlin | Four wins at a lower level over 7f/1m and handles soft; first try over 6f at Dundalk recently was quite encouraging but he's probably better around a bend. |
(14) Run Forrest Run | | | | | | 6 | Shane Foley | Michael Patrick Fenton | Hold-up sprinter won twice over 6f last term, here and at Cork, albeit in lower grade contests; should be better for his comeback at latter venue; always needs luck in running but ground not a problem. |
(21) Super Over | | | | | | 6 | David Egan | D P Coakley | Four wins on AW (7f/1m); yet to win on turf and faded over 1m on heavy ground at Leopardstown; good jockey booked but others preferred. |
(19) Hokusai | | | | | | 4 | Jamie Powell | Noel Meade | Runner-up in heavy ground maidens (7f/1m) last term; went without blinkers when running creditably over 1m here on reappearance; yet to shine over this trip but could go well under last season's champion apprentice with headgear back on. |
(16) Secret Magician | | | | | | 5 | Wayne Hassett | Martin Hassett | Both wins have come over C&D and he handles heavy; shaped well at Cork three weeks ago and yard does very well with limited runners; on a fair mark and should be bang there. |
(1) Heavenly Power | | | | | | 6 | James Ryan | Edward Lynam | Two wins here, including a defeat of 29 rivals in a C&D handicap two seasons ago; won at Navan last October off 5lb lower; probably needs his best form yet to defy current mark and heavy ground perhaps not ideal. |
1st (18) Mercurial | | | | | | 5 | Robert Whearty | John J Nallen | Yet to add to juvenile success when trained in Britain but runner-up three times last term including over C&D on similar ground in October when finishing in front of Dagoda and Secret Magician; probably needed the run when long way behind Merisi Diamond here last month. |
3rd (10) Ramiro | | | | | | 8 | J M Sheridan | Miss Hilary McLoughlin | Has done well for a few different yards and is a real mudlark; two wins when trained in Britain last term and good second over 7f at Naas last month; didn't see out his race when favourite at Cork six days later; stiff 6f here should be fine. |
(11) Merisi Diamond | | | | | | 5 | Ronan Whelan | Martin Brassil | Two readily-achieved wins on heavy ground at this venue (6f/7f) for which he's risen sharply in the ratings; second over 7f at Leopardstown last time and hood tried then is left off here; likely there's still more to come. |
His hat-trick bid was foiled at Leopardstown but plenty will give Merisi Diamond another chance off just a 2lb higher mark and a strong pace, which must be likely in such a big field, will suit him. After a good comeback at Cork, SECRET MAGICIAN, who goes well here and handles heavy ground, is just preferred. Plenty of others have each-way claims including Dagoda, who progressed well in the autumn, Ramiro and Rathbranchurch. [Mark Nunan]
