(9) Peking Opera
4Tom QueallyGary MooreVery useful (1m4f-1m6f) last year for Aidan O'Brien but needs much better form to win in this company; made 100,000gns in September and won hurdles debut in February but he had weakened right out of it three weeks later; others preferred.
4th (5) Certain Lad
8George BassJack ChannonA stack of prize-money and nine wins over the years, ending a losing run when he took 1m2f handicaps in the mud on last two starts last term; a bit more is needed at this level and he's unraced beyond an extended 1m2f.
3rd (10) Salt Bay
4Hector CrouchRalph BeckettThird in French Group 1 as a 2yo but good second in useful 1m5f handicap at Newbury (1m5f, heavy) last September is the only time he's shown similar form; has very low mileage and was gelded since latest start (modest run on AW) but needs overall improvement and others are more solid.
(7) Max Vega
7Rossa RyanRalph BeckettDual C&D Group 3 winner in 2022, in this race on first occasion and third in it last year; AW handicap win in February was close to his best form but trying 2m in that sphere three weeks ago did not work out; place chance.
(3) Alsakib
4James DoyleAndrew BaldingMade debut one year ago and ended that successful British season winning valuable 1m4f handicaps at Ascot (good to firm) and Newmarket (soft); needs better still at this level but not discredited in the Qatar Derby in December when last seen and a resumption of his impressive progress can't be ruled out.
(8) Mujtaba
6Jim CrowleyWilliam HaggasHis two 1m2f handicap wins in 2022 were smart form, particularly on heavy ground here that October; player on that and also on his neck second in Group 2 at Chester last May but he was not seen again until ending up well behind in French Group 3 (heavy) five weeks ago; well worth a go at this sort of trip but that latest result has to be a concern.
2nd (1) Al Qareem
5Clifford LeeK R BurkeCan front-run; absent nearly six months before career-best form on last three starts last term, winning a Listed race at Chester and Group 3 at Ascot before his second to Hamish in Group 3 at Newmarket; all those were at 1m4f and the ground holds no fears; respected but may need better still.
(6) Chesspiece
4William BuickSimon & Ed CrisfordStays 1m6f and acts on soft; 3yo wins came in a handicap and Listed race and he's not quite cracked it at Group level; gelded since final start and he looks the type to raise his game this term, but that is needed.
1st (2) Hamish
8Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasPlaced on all three runs at Newbury; either first or second on all starts in 2022 and 2023, last year winning all four; seven Group 3 wins in total now (Chester, York, Goodwood and Newmarket last term) and he'll be bang there again if carrying on in same vein as last autumn.
(4) Arrest
4Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenWon Chester Vase (1m4f, soft) last May and Group 3 Geoffrey Freer here (1m5f, good to soft; made all) in August; disappointing twice on good to firm but showed again how well he goes on soft when second in the St Leger on final outing; dropping back in trip should be fine and he looks set for a big run with this drop back in class.

The redoubtable Hamish (second choice) is placed expertly by connections and should go well in his bid for five wins in a row, while there could be improvement to come among the four-year-olds in particular and Chesspiece is just one of those to note. The high-profile candidate, however, is another 4yo in ARREST (nap), the St Leger runner-up, and he too looks the type to carry on his good work.[Richard Austen]

3Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingPromise in 7f AW races at Kempton last autumn, going very close on debut then justifying odds-on favouritism; open to improvement but has a lot to find upped in class.
3rd (1) Elmalka
3James DoyleRoger VarianWell-bred filly who came with a strong late run to win at Southwell (7f, AW) on sole 2yo start; open to any amount of progress this term and, with her smart pedigree in mind, has clear Group potential; respected.
1st (2) Folgaria
3Hollie DoyleMarco BottiVery progressive and 5-5 in Italy for Stefano Botti, comfortably winning Group 2 at San Siro (1m, soft) the final time; interesting contender, assuming her good form is sustained on debut for Stefano's brother Marco.
(5) Star Music
3William BuickRichard HughesSuited by the step up to 7f last September/October, making all for impressive win at Kempton (AW) then third in Group 3 at Newmarket (soft); could well improve further, with stable in great form; enters calculations.
2nd (3) Regal Jubilee
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenRapid progress over 1m last autumn culminated in Listed success at Newmarket (heavy); won on good ground the time before; bred to be as effective at 7f and should have even more to offer; has to be feared.
4th (4) Relief Rally
3Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasProductive 2yo season ended with wins in the Super Sprint at this course (5f, good to soft) and Lowther at York (6f, good to firm; Group 2); leading contender, provided she stays this new trip (mixed messages in pedigree on that score).

This year's Fred Darling has attracted an unusually small field but it's not short on quality, with Group 2 winners Relief Rally and Folgaria among the declarations. The former has a question to answer upped in distance and the latter is having her first run outside Italy. The only runners who hold entries in the 1,000 Guineas are bright prospect ELMALKA, likely pacesetter Star Music and the dropped-in-trip Regal Jubilee, preferred in that order. The selection has lots of potential, while the second choice represents a yard in excellent form and the third choice progressed well last autumn.[Steve Boow]

2nd (4) El Bodon
3Tom MarquandJane Chapple-HyamSecond on debut at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) last May and went one better at Lingfield (6f, AW) in June; looked a useful prospect back then but this is his first run since and others have far more substance to their form.
(1) Alaskan Gold
3Oisin MurphyK R BurkeRan five times last year, winning a Carlisle novice (6f, good) on his third start and displaying major improvement in a first-time visor when pushing Ballymount Boy close in a Listed race at Doncaster (6f, heavy) when last seen; each-way shout on that form but reappears without any headgear.
1st (5) Esquire
3Daniel TudhopeDavid O'MearaWon on debut at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) last September then went close in Listed race at York (6f, soft); disappointing at Doncaster (6f, heavy) last October when last seen but he's much better than that and his attractive pedigree provides hope that he'll have more in the tank; not ruled out.
(6) James's Delight
3Richard KingscoteClive CoxDidn't really progress last year after winning on debut here (6f, good to soft) in July, but he reappeared at Pontefract (6f, heavy) recently having been gelded and bolted up in that small-field handicap; if confirming that latest promise he might not be far away.
(10) Watch My Tracer
3Callum ShepherdGeorge ScottTwo novice wins (6f, good to firm/good) from his five 2yo starts and he reappeared with narrow Listed win at Lingfield (AW) last month on first crack at 7f; slow ground is an unknown (non-runner due to unsuitable soft going last August); further improvement is needed but possible.
(8) Room Service
3Tom EavesKevin RyanBuilt upon the promise of first three starts (5f-6f, good/good to firm) when winning Doncaster sales race (6.5f, soft) with something to spare last September; not fully exposed on softer than good and could be in the mix.
(2) Army Ethos
3Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonImpressed on debut at Ayr (6f, good) last May and went very close in Group 2 Coventry at Royal Ascot (6f, good) next time; then absent until last month, when turned over at 2-9, and that defeats dents confidence in his claims today; however, he may have needed the run and remains a colt to be interested in given last year's abundant promise; wears first-time cheekpieces.
(7) Mister Sketch
3William BuickEve Johnson HoughtonVery impressive at Salisbury (6f, good) last August on his second start then went close in the Group 2 Mill Reef here (6f, heavy); there's every chance he'll stay 7f and continue to progress this year; William Buick has 23% strike-rate for yard in last five seasons; could have a part to play.
(3) Ballymount Boy
3James DoyleAdrian Paul KeatleyRunner-up in two 7f Group races last August (soft/good to firm) and bounced back from French flop to land Listed win at Doncaster (6f, heavy) in October, not enjoying a clear run but finding enough to beat Alaskan Gold; 7f could be his optimum trip and he's firmly in calculations.
4th (9) Son
3Pat DobbsRichard HannonWon maiden here (6.5f, good to firm) last June on second start and some respectable runs in Group 2/Listed races subsequently (7f/1m, including on good to soft); represents stable that has enjoyed lots of success in this race but improvement is needed if he's to threaten on this reappearance.
2nd (11) Zoum Zoum
3Rob HornbyRalph BeckettWon all three 2yo starts, namely a Kempton novice (7f, AW), a warm Newmarket novice (7f, heavy; under a penalty) and Listed race at Saint-Cloud (7f, heavy); did it comfortably the last twice and he holds strong form claims on this reappearance outing.

There was lots to like about the 2yo campaign of BALLYMOUNT BOY, who didn't enjoy an ideal passage when getting up late on in a 6f Listed race at Doncaster when last seen, and he's taken to make a winning return now he's back up to 7f. Doncaster sales race winner Room Service is not fully exposed on ground softer than good and is feared most, assuming such a surface prevails. French Listed winner Zoum Zoum has to be respected, while Esquire and Mister Sketch could have more to offer this year and last season's Coventry Stakes runner-up Army Ethos is an intriguing contender on his second start back from an absence.[Ben Hutton]

8Callum ShepherdGeorge BakerHas done his winning on Polytrack at Kempton, including twice in 2024; ran creditably back there on latest outing; well beaten in this year's Lincoln, taking turf record to 0-18.
(4) Sierra Blanca
4Sean LeveyRichard HannonPlaced at Group 3 level as a 2yo for Aidan O'Brien; well beaten in Listed grade (1m2f; drifted badly in betting) on sole start last year for the Meade yard; best to follow the market signals on debut for Richard Hannon.

4Joe LeavyRichard HannonWon a maiden on good to soft; generally progressive in AW handicaps since November, most recently proving game at Newcastle (1m) on finals day; may struggle to follow up, being 15lb higher than last turf appearance.
5th (10) Bill Silvers
4Daniel TudhopeHarry EustaceStill looks unexposed, having raced just four times (all on soft/heavy); won over 7f at Doncaster on second occasion and ran well in 1m2f handicap there latest (October); gelded since; may improve further.
(20) Alpha Crucis
4Anna GibsonGary MooreSuited by soft going; successful twice over 1m last season; creditable fourth in the Lincoln on reappearance and ties in with two of today's main players on that form; again has frame possibilities.
(14) Racingbreaks Ryder
4Jamie SpencerCharles HillsProgressive spell culminated in comfortable win off 1lb lower at Ascot (soft) last May, completing a four-timer; lost his form afterwards in 2023; gelded since last run and could revive on reappearance.
(19) Look Back Smiling
4Laura CoughlanGemma TuttySuited by soft/heavy; bids for a hat-trick, having won at Doncaster (7f/1m) the last twice, latest in the Spring Mile; better than ever and should take well to this similar venue; hard to dismiss, despite being on career-high mark.
(12) Terwada
4Kieran ShoemarkEd WalkerUnraced on soft/heavy; has low mileage; soundly beaten in the Cambridgeshire (gelded since) but a progressive sort otherwise, winning twice over 1m before running respectably at the York Ebor festival, and may still have more to offer; not ruled out.
(9) Dancing Magic
4Jim CrowleyRoger TealUseful maiden who has bits of Group form and whose last-time-out effort (handicap debut; raced on unfavoured part of the Ascot track) is best forgiven; gelded since; well treated judged on peak RPRs.
1st (15) Metal Merchant
4David ProbertJack ChannonForm dipped sharply when last seen, totally failing to build on his Ascot classified success; gelded since; not guaranteed to rebound, as record suggests he's likely to need this reappearance run.
(1) Raadobarg
6William BuickGeorge BougheySuited by ground softer than good; successful in notable 1m handicaps for previous yards; 0-9 for current stable but has a fighting chance, provided he builds on Curragh reappearance effort (ran well, close third).
(2) Real Gain
4Finley MarshRichard HughesRecord is 3-5; came up short in Newmarket Group 3 on last appearance (gelded since) but progressive otherwise and was impressive in a handicap there (1m1f, good to firm) the time before; represents a stable in great form and likely still has more to offer; remains of interest.
4th (3) Thunder Ball
4Alec VoikhanskyPaul & Oliver ColeGoodwood win (1m, soft) in October is flanked by respectable efforts in major handicaps, latest at Doncaster four weeks ago where he fared best of the runners who raced prominently; enters calculations off unaltered mark.
(6) Lattam
5Ryan SextonJulie CamachoSuited by going softer than good; ran well in this race last year for William Haggas, beating all bar the subsequent Royal Hunt Cup winner; good second, despite traffic issues, in the Lincoln at Doncaster on debut for Julie Camacho; likely player, for all that he's on career-high mark.
(8) Navagio
5Richard KingscoteJames HortonThree wins in Ireland; ran promisingly, despite not getting an entirely smooth passage, in the Lincoln at Doncaster (1m, soft; one place behind Lattam) on debut for new stable; may still have further progress in him; interesting off unaltered mark.
(16) Noble Order
5Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonVery lightly raced 5yo who scored comfortably at Newcastle (1m, AW; off 6lb lower) two months ago on debut for new yard after a lengthy absence; showed promise on sole turf attempt (soft; debut); may progress further; possibilities.
2nd (18) Godwinson
4Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasThrice-raced 4yo; absent since finishing fifth in strong AW novice event last August (form has plenty of substance); won easily at Hamilton (1m1f, good to soft) the time before; looks the type to improve further and do well in handicaps this season; very appealing.

An opening mark of 88 looks more than manageable for GODWINSON, who last time out was only about 5l behind a subsequent Group 1 winner. The selection is open to further progress back on turf and should do well in handicaps. Real Gain (second choice) is an interesting contender for in-form Richard Hughes, while Lincoln protagonists Lattam, Navagio and Alpha Crucis are firmly in the mix. Raadobarg is respected, while several others also have possibilities.[Steve Boow]

1st (2) Economics
3Tom MarquandWilliam Haggas160,000gns yearling; 11-1 when a rallying fourth of 13 on Newmarket debut (7f, heavy) last November; the first three have all won since (the runner-up at Newmarket on Tuesday) and this Derby/Dante entry has to be high on the list for stable that has won this race or a division of it twice since 2017.

The market is likely to be highly significant. Of those making their debuts, Amphius and Under Siege are perhaps the most interesting, while the latter's trainer Andrew Balding (who has a fine recent record in this race) also fields an interesting contender in Clove Hitch, of whom much better was expected on last summer's debut here if the betting was anything to go by. Sedgemoor showed enough on last August's Salisbury debut to suggest races will be won, but it's hard to get away from ECONOMICS who showed plenty of promise when fourth on last November's Newmarket debut. The first three have all won since, the runner-up back at Newmarket on Tuesday.[David Bellingham]

6Ryan SextonJulie CamachoRarely seen on grass (0-9) these days and AW form so far this year has been below par, but he is 7lb lower than when third of six at Newmarket (1m2f, good) last May so he can't be completely ruled out.
(2) Polling Day
6Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonWent missing for 31 months after winning his first two starts for the Gosden yard on the AW at Lingfield in the spring of 2021; has shown that he retains ability a couple of times since returning for this yard in November, but this looks a tough ask on turf debut.
(16) One Step Beyond
7Anna GibsonGary MooreThree wins over 1m/1m2f on good/AW last year (the last under Anna Gibson), but ended the campaign with two modest efforts; off seven months but has won fresh; each-way possibilities.
(11) Oj Lifestyle
4Tom QueallyGary MooreRecorded a 125-1 win here (7f, good to firm) on second 2yo start and has run with credit a couple of times since; some stamina on the dam's side, but still something to prove up in trip after 202 days off (gelded in the meantime); stable also runs One Step Beyond.
(5) Mr Mistoffelees
4Clifford LeeHughie MorrisonWon a Kempton novice (1m, AW) at the end of 2022, but faced stiff tasks subsequently and wasn't up to them; back in much calmer waters on this return from nine months off (has been gelded), but may be best watched for now.
(18) Galileo's Compass
4Tom MarquandTom WardPlaced a couple of times (10.5f/12.5f) in five starts for Jessica Harrington last year; makes his stable debut after 220 days off having been picked up for 18,500gns in November; market useful.
(10) Entrancement
4Kyle StrydomDavid MenuisierBoth wins have come on a soft surface and she ended last season with a good second of seven over C&D (soft) in September; fitness has to be taken on trust back from seven months off, but a player if ready to roll and the ground doesn't dry up too much.
(19) Expressionless
4Rhys ClutterbuckDylan CunhaOut of the frame in last six outings, but not beaten far at Bath (1m2f, heavy) 13 days ago and now 2lb lower than for the latest of two soft-ground wins (1m/8.5f) this time last year; interesting.
(17) Monteria
6Liam KeniryStuart KittowBoth wins came over 1m2f on soft ground last year and he may have gone even closer with a clearer run when beaten under a length into second of ten at Windsor (1m2f, heavy) on his final outing; may be better for this first run in six months, but of interest otherwise with conditions likely to suit.
(6) Baltimore Boy
5Jim CrowleyJames HortonBoth wins on the AW (7f/1m) and 0-7 on turf; not disgraced when fifth of ten on his return/stable debut at Kempton (1m, AW) last month, but has a bit to prove attempting this far for the first time.
(7) God Of Thunder
5Alec VoikhanskyRichard HannonBoth wins have come over 1m4f on the AW since November, the latest in a valuable apprentice handicap under Alec Voikhansky at Lingfield last month; another 6lb rise and this drop in trip may find him out now back on turf; stable also runs Graham.
4th (3) Prince Maxi
4William BuickGeorge ScottShowed some ability when sixth of ten in one start for Richard Hannon at Newmarket (1m2f, good) a year ago and both runs since returning in February have been on the AW at Wolverhampton, easily winning on the first occasion (8.6f) and chasing home a subsequent winner on the second (9.5f); open to more progress on handicap debut.
(15) Graham
4Sean LeveyRichard HannonMade the frame in all eight handicap starts last year, including wins over 1m4f at Salisbury (good to firm) and here (good); off eight months, but a player if returning in the same form.
5th (4) Cracksking
4Daniel MuscuttJames FanshaweIn the frame in all five starts before getting off the mark in good style in a Newcastle maiden (1m2f, AW) last October; returns from 190 days off having been gelded in the meantime and is one to consider, especially if market positive.
3rd (9) Gallant Lion
4Rossa RyanAlan KingCompleted a four-timer for Tony Carroll last summer including a win over C&D, but went quiet in his last two starts; makes his debut for his new yard (same owners) after seven months off and his record suggests the run may be needed.

Entrancement, Graham and Monteria each have to prove their fitness following absences, but they have the form to figure if ready to go. There may be even better to come from Prince Maxi and Cracksking, while Qaasid could be an interesting outsider. However, it may be worth chancing the bottomweight EXPRESSIONLESS who should appreciate conditions if the ground remains soft and has dropped 2lb below his last winning mark.[David Bellingham]
